Work Text:

Homestar finished wrapping his gift, a small box. It looked just like one of those cartoon presents, which he thought was absolutely wonderful and whimsical.

He grabbed the gift and headed to the door of his house. Today was the day he was going to tell him. Homestar opened the door, only to see Marzipan standing in front of it.

“Hey Homestar.” She said in her usual cheery tone.

“Oh hey Mawzipan! Why are you hewe? Didn't you break up with me last month?” Homestar asked.

“Yeah, but I thought we could give it another try!” Marzipan fluttered her eyelashes.

“Sowy Mawzipan, but I don't wanna get back togethew anymore.” Homestar explained, stepping out of his house.

“Wait what?!” Marzipan was absolutely shocked. Normally Homestar would just automatically agree to be her boyfriend again.

“Bye Mawzipan!” Homestar yelled as he ran off.

He ran for a while, the neon green hills in the background really added to the atmosphere. Finally he reached his destination, the house of strong.

Homestar knocked on the front door. He held a small gift box behind his back. He was too excited to sit here waiting anymore but he wanted to actually be let in this time instead of breaking in. Today was the day he was going to tell him everything.

“Homestar?” Strong Bad said, confused as to why Homestar decided to use the conventional entrance that day, as he opened the door.

“Oh! Stwong Bad! Is Stwong Sad home?” Homestar asked, the excitement in his bones visibly showing.

“Depressio? Yeah, he's always here. Why?” Strong Bad replied, wondering why the hell anyone would ever want to see Strong Sad.

“Oh you know… I gotta talk to him! Wight now!” Homestar said, pushing past Strong Bad, almost knocking him over.

Homestar ran up the stairs.

><

Strong Sad had been locked in his room for days, curtains blocking out any light, leaving a few candles as the only light sources. Various crumpled up, ink-stained pieces of paper littered the floor. Strong Sad sat at his desk, a stack of papers on one side, on the other, a fountain pen and in the middle, between his hands, was a piece of paper.

He picked up the pen, making that ‘hmmm’ noise before placing the tip of the pen on the paper. As he wrote the first few letters the ink spilled down the page. Strong Sad groaned as he realised that the words looked messy and were too complex for the person it was meant for. He scrunched up the paper, throwing it into the void of the room behind him.

Strong Sad leaned his head on his hands, sighing. At this pace he would never finish the letter. Though poetry came naturally to him, no words could explain how difficult it was to write a piece for someone else, especially for someone as dumb as Homestar Runner.

Just as he was about to try again he heard a knock on his door, an excited knock. By the tone of the knocking he could tell that it was not one of his brothers, but a visitor. Normally Strong Sad didn’t get any visitors. He sighed, opening the door, only to find Homestar standing there, trying to hide his excitement, though the smirk on his face made it obvious.

“Homestar?” Strong Sad said, obviously shocked.

“Yeah, it's me. Yknow, The Homestaw Wunnew. What’s up?” Homestar said, trying to play it cool or something like that.

“Ummm I’d like to know why you’re here.” Strong Sad questioned.

“Oh! Wight! Can I come in?” Homestar asked.

“Huh-?” Strong Sad didn’t even have time to react as Homestar just entered his room as if it were his own.

“Woah youw woom is like all dawk and gloomy like you” Homestar said, looking around what was essentially a void.

Strong Sad didn’t reply though he appreciated the comparison. Instead he went to open the curtains as he assumed that Homestar would before being in direct sunlight.

“Oooo! What's this?” Homestar exclaimed, picking up a crumpled page

“No wait! Don't read that.” Strong Sad almost yelled.

“Umm… ok.” Homestar rolled his eyes, dropping the paper.

“Why are you here anyways?” Strong Sad asked.

“Oh! Oh! Wight! I am hewe to give you this gift” Homestar said, practically bouncing. He held out the gift.

Strong Sad took the box, inspecting the way it was wrapped like one of those cartoon presents. He removed the bow and wrapping paper, removed the lid, only to find that there was nothing in it.

“Uhh, Homestar, This is just an empty box.” Strong Sad said, tilting his head to the side.

“Oh umm… I was gonna tell you something.” Homestar muttered.

“Huh?” Strong Sad questioned.

“I fowgot it though.” Homestar said, sad that the thought had escaped him.

“Oh…” Strong Sad sighed.

“I think it was something like… I like you… will you… go out with me?” Homestar thought out loud.

“Wait, are you serious?!” Strong Sad nearly gasped.

“Stwong Sad, when have I not been sewious?” Homestar reassured him.

“Do you mean it?” Strong Sad asked. Knowing that this was probably a prank set up by his brother to humiliate him once again.

“Umm... yes.” Homestar said, doing his confused little eyebrow raise as he did so.

“Then yes!” Strong Sad nearly shouted, though he contained himself.

“Yay!” Homestar exclaimed.

The two stood in silence for a second.

“Does this mean we’wre boyfriends now?” Homestar asked, practically jumping.

“Umm, yeah, I guess it does” Strong Sad said, a small smile forming on his face.

Just then Strong Bad walked into the hallway which connected Strong Sad’s room with the rest of the house. He peeked over the frame and into Strong Sad’s room.

“Hey dumbstar, congrats on getting count suckula to open the damn door.” Strong Bad said, walking into the room.

“Maybe I would open it for you more often if you stopped trying to kill me.” Strong Sad spit back.

“Whatever.” Strong Bad pushed past them and headed straight for the only bathroom in the house which was only accessible through Strong Sads room for some odd reason.

And thus Homestar and Strong Sad were once again left alone in the latter's room. The silence of neither of them knowing what to say was awkward to say the least. Strong Bad’s unwarranted presence had truly ruined the mood, if there was such a thing to begin with, given Homestar’s less than romantic speech pattern.

“Well I’ll see you later, my boooooyyyyyyyfriend.” Homestar said, overextending the last word for seemingly no reason as he walked out.

Despite Homestar forgetting the goal of his visit to the Brothers Strong’s house, he had somehow managed to accomplish it with almost no complications at all! As if it had been a dream or something similar.

In Strong Sad’s point of view, the way it happened was less than ideal but he’d take that over giving Homestar a beautifully worded letter and watching him struggle to read it.

Notes:

This ones pretty short but I really enjoy this ship and wanted to write something about them :P
(and yeah of course I had to make the title a lyric from a The Cure song)
