Familia

Summary:

A ModernAU where Miguel has a family.

A Filo!Reader x Miguel O'hara fic.

Notes:

I know this joke is so old but this is based on a TikTok of @marjannesuarez’s Columbian and Filipino family.

Also, this is really helping me with my language learning so PLEASE if you speak Spanish or Tagalog, I am begging you to correct me. But since I’m a beginner and don’t want to be cringy, the italic text means they're speaking their language (in a deep conversation context).

(I want a fic where Gabriella gets a quince and a Debut haha)

Also, please note I know puto is a swear word in Spanish, so if you want me to remove this fic I have no problem, but in the Philippines, it’s a steamed rice cake that can come in a variety of flavors and put cheese on top.

Chapter Text

When Gabriella was born, Miguel and Y/N were over the moon, she was beautiful and was the perfect reflection of both her parents. She had the deep mahogany eyes that reflected her father, and a cute button nose like her mother. Miguel argued that Gabriella had more of Y/N’s looks than himself.

With all the parenting books, classes, and discussions with other parents, it did not prepare Miguel to hold his little girl for the first time, excitement and fear took over him as his eyes widen, his mouth dry and his arms were shaking. Y/N smacked him in the arm.

“Susmaryosep, Miguel! Just take her!” Pushing Gabriella into his arms. As he wrapped his arms around her the anxiety blew away and a feeling of relief washed over him, as Gabriella yawned, the months of Y/N’s pregnancy were finally over and the little light had come to the world.

“Hola, Mi Sol…” Holding her close, the warm smile Gabriella had, Miguel’s tears fell and couldn’t stop as Y/N rubbed his back in comfort, as Miguel wept.

“Thank you Y/N… I love you both with all my heart… Thank you.”

A gentle giant, he was her protector, a doting father, her cries were his call, and rushing to her aid. Y/N smiled secretly holding her phone, pictures, and videos of their bond, Miguel singing to her, reading to her, and smiling. So enamored by her beauty he never noticed until it was too late.

“Y/N, pleaseeee don’t send those to anyone.”

“Too late, I sent it to Mary Jane and Peter B.”

“fuck.”

Miguel frowned when Gabriella’s nine-month onesie didn’t fit anymore, folding all of her old clothes and putting them in the donate box. He stared into the other room seeing Y/N and Gabriella playing together with a cartoon show in the background.

“Can you say maaaaamaaa, maaaamaaa can you say mama’s name…” Y/N sang.

“Papa.” Gabriella babbled, her chubby hands slamming on the floor, Y/N gasped and threw herself on the floor. “Anak,” Y/N softly pinched Gabriella’s cheeks “Mama! Say Ma-Ma.”

“Papapapapa…..!” Gabriella squealed before crawling to Miguel walking into the room, a triumphant smirk on his face. He picks up Gabriella and lets her sit on his lap next to Y/N. Y/N softly smacks Miguel on his arm, “Papa this! Papa that! Ohhh this is all your fault.” Y/N huffed.

Miguel laughed, “That I’m a good father and husband?”

“Yeah, that needs to stop.” Y/N kissed Gabriella on both cheeks “You need to love me more.”

Miguel wrapped his arms around Y/N “You know she loves us equally, she’s almost one give it some time…” Kissing Y/N’s face and down to her neck, he rests his head on her chest. “Don’t be mad…” He whispers.

Y/N sighed, “I’m not mad, I just want to know if I’m a good mom…I’m scared for the future Miguel… I’m scared that I’m going to fail her.”

“My love,” Miguel holding Y/N’s chin and holding her gaze, “You are a good mother, look…” He lifts up Gabriella to Y/N’s face, Gabriella’s face beams her eyes sparkled and her mouth wide open with a little drool coming out. Y/N cracked a smile, as Miguel continued to kiss her face, “Her happiness is proof that you’re a good mom. You don’t need to put so much pressure on yourself…” He kisses her forehead, “You have me, you always will.”

Y/N felt herself relax, shoulders dropped Miguel was right, as usual.

“Alright. You win.” surrendering in his embrace she took Gabriella off Miguel and onto her lap. “By the way on Sunday, Brenda and Sam are coming over with their son Jacob for a playdate.”

Miguel rolled his eyes “Not them.” He gives her a disapproving look, “Why couldn’t Peter and Mary Jane come with Mayday?”

“Mayday’s sick with a fever, and what? Jacob gets along with Gabriella?!” Y/N tilted her head quizzically.

Miguel slides his hand down his face. “It’s his parents I can’t stand, Brenda said to me “Oh it's so nice that you babysit your baby girl.” Like Dios, Brenda It’s not like I’m her father!” Miguel was baffled before ranting more in Spanish that Y/N wasn’t able to translate.

Y/N howled laughing at Miguel’s tirade.

“Happy Birthday, Gabi!”

Pops of confetti, music playing, and laughing from friends and family, Gabriella was finally two years old. A crawling bundle of joy grew into an independent and confident child.

Gabriella jumped to her feet and screamed at all the entertainment around her before running off to her toddler friend group in the colorful bounce house.

In the point of view of Miguel standing alone, his height made it easy to watch his daughter from a far, his face twitched. The anxiety of Gabi somehow hurting herself was a funny contrast to the blue polka dot party hat that she graced on his head before running off. Y/N smiled and tapped her husband on the shoulder, “Miguel, She’s fine and having a good time, what is she going to do? Cut herself on the inflatable castle?”

Miguel frowned, “It’s a possibility, I’m going to check up on-”

“O’haras! How’s the Familia?”

In walks the Parkers, Mary Jane waving politely, letting her daughter’s hand go to run into the backyard, as Peter B with open arms wraps them around Y/N, he turns to Miguel who gives him a threatening look before Peter B pats him on the back.

“Mommy!” Gabriella sprinted her arms in the air before jumping up to give Y/N a hug.

“Hello Birthday girl! ” Y/N spun Gabriella, her little shirks filled the air before seeing Mayday the two girls giggled and laughed to greet each other.

“Mommmmyyy…Can we have Puto?” Gabriella asked her little face pouting, Miguel clears his throat in response. Y/N smiled “Just wait a little longer Anak, the caters aren’t here yet.”

“How long until the puto comes?!” Gabriella stomped her feet, Miguel bit his cheek his body started to tense as his eyes look over at his wife and princess.

“Gabriella…” Miguel smiled “The rice cakes are coming soon why don’t-”

“No, Papa!” Gabriella shrieked “Not rice cakes! Puto!”

Miguel’s heart rate jumped, “Yes rice cakes Honey please-!!”

“No, Papa! Not rice cakes! Puto! Say it, Papa!” Gabriella huffed, arms in the air, her eyes glaring at her father. Mary Jane and Peter B not understanding the context stared at the tall giant crumble under his 2-year-old daughter, but one thing for sure is you can never win questioning a 2-year-old’s logic.

“Pu-” Miguel covers his mouth, mortified as he felt the glaring eyes of his relatives, Miguel felt he was shrinking to an unfazed Gabriella as she frustratingly uncross and crossed her arms. “Papa, don’t cover your mouth! Say it!”

“P-Puto…” He whispered, hesitantly saying every syllable, feeling the sting of his heart shattering saying the word, he opened his eyes to see Gabriella’s triumphant look. He could see a group of aunties staring and whispering to each other and one abuela grabbing her chancla warningly. Miguel humiliated thought about the explanations and apologies he has to appeal to his side of the family, he thought about dragging Y/N by the shirt to apologize as well.

Gabriella smiled as she shouted, Mayday followed as they chanted the unfortunately inappropriately named dessert, “Big Puto!”. Y/N covering her smirk in the background, she hears a knock at the backyard door.

“Hey, I’m from Manila bakery…”

Y/N smiled “Yeah, I’ll lead the way…” Y/N looked apologetic, reminding herself that she should have a talk with their daughter about cultural differences later.

Peter B raising an eyebrow at this whole ordeal awkwardly stared at Miguel who was hiding his face in the palm of his hands.

“Eh…What-”

“Don’t fucking ask Parker.” He hissed.
