Work Text:
Miu and Kaede decided to go on a little vacation together. They decided to go to a hotel to the nearest vacation spot, in hopes of doing something fun together and enjoying their time. After all, it’s a simple vacation between two best friends, what could possibly go wrong?
Turns out, things can go wrong. As much as it hurts Miu Iruma to say it, things went wrong. There was only one bed in the room that they had booked, that should have had two separate beds in it.
“Oh, god damn it!” Miu shouted as she walked into her and Kaede’s hotel room, seeing the sight of only one bed.
Kaede’s head tilted, walking in behind Miu. “Huh? What’s wrong with the… Oh, I see.”
“W-What the hell are we gonna do, Kaediot? We booked a room with two beds, not this shit! How did this even fuckin’ happen!” Miu growled, shoving her suitcase to the side.
Putting her own suitcase to the side, Kaede appeared lost in thought.
“The hell are ya thinkin’ about, Kaediot?
Kaede snapped her fingers, coming up with an idea. “Well, let’s just call the people at the front,” She said as she pulled her phone out. “It was probably just a little mix up. I could’ve sworn we paid for a room with 2 beds in it.”
“I swear, if these idiots fucked up our rooms, I’m gonna fuckin’ gut them!” Miu scowled.
Kaede waved a hand to Miu as the phone rang, telling her to be quiet. “Shhh, the phone’s ringing, Miu.”
Miu grumbled, but she didn’t fight back.
For the next minute or so, all Miu could hear was Kaede’s end of the conversation.
“Yeah, so… we booked a room with two beds, we only got a room with one.”
“What?”
“Are you serious?”
“Ugh. Can we at least get a refund?”
“No? Well, I guess we’ll have to put up with it, I suppose. Thank you.” Kaede spoke her piece, but that sentence caused a rise in Miu as she realized what was happening.
She ran up behind Kaede, yelling into the phone. “Are you fuckin’ kidding me? I’m gonna come over there and shove our hotel key up your- Hey, Kaediot, why the hell did you hang up, I was speakin’ my goddamn truth!”
Kaede rolled her eyes. “You can’t just yell at people like that, Miu! You’re not gonna get anything your way like that!”
“I don’t give a shit! I’m Miu Iruma, I say whatever the hell I want. You’re really a Kaediot if ya haven’t realized that by now.” Miu got in front of Kaede, glaring at her.
“I’m just telling the truth, Miu!” Kaede pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration.
Kaede’s tone of voice caused Miu to back up a bit, startled. “O-Okay, fine… Don’t be mad at me.”
“I’m not mad at you, okay? You just gotta… chill. Speaking of chilling, we should probably figure out what we’re supposed to do with the bed.”
Miu groaned and nodded her head. “Yeah, yeah. What happened with that shit anyway? I know we have to stay in this shitty room, though.”
“Well, essentially… The hotel is packed. Apparently someone booked the room before us and got in there, and this was all they had. There’s no refunds either, so we can’t really do much about it now.”
“Why the hell were we allowed to get a room that was booked in the first place! The damn site said it was available!”
“Apparently the site glitched out, and it was actually booked. So we have this.” Kaede sighed.
“Well, that’s a load of horseshit! We deserve a fuckin’ refund!” Miu complained, clenching her fist and raising her voice more than she already had.
“Look, Miu, I can’t argue with that. But, let’s just make the best of it, okay? We came here to have a good time on vacation.” Kaede sighed, rubbing her arm nervously.
Miu huffed, feeling defeated by the situation. There was a slight tint of red on her face, due to the thought of sharing a bed with Kaede. “Fine, Kaediot. But don’t start throwin’ hissy fits if I kick you in my sleep.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll try not to annoy you too much. Luckily there’s enough room for both of us, so we can just have our own sides of the bed. Sounds like a deal?” Kaede’s head tilted as she waited for a response.
Miu groaned. “Whatever. Just don’t hog the damn bed.”
“Haha, alright. You got it.” Kaede chuckled.
Eventually the two had settled down and decided to call it a night. As they settled into comfortable clothes to go to sleep in, Miu began to feel increasingly tense. She knew deep down that she had an affection and love for Kaede, more than what best friends would normally have for each other. Miu was smart enough to know that she had a crush on Kaede, but she’d rather die than admit it to her. So, the whole situation made her a bit nervous.
Kaede had settled into bed before Miu, leaving an empty space for Miu to lay down. “Hey, are you going to sleep or what?” She asked, patting the spot next to her. “Come on, I don’t bite.”
Miu felt her heart pound in her chest as she stood near the bed. There was a certain allure to all of this, the way Kaede was looking at her, waiting for her to come into bed. The thought of laying next to her and sleeping next to her was an appealing situation for Miu. She swallowed her nerves, making her way into the empty spot next to Kaede and getting under the covers.
“Okay, I'm here now, Kaediot. ‘Ya happy now? If you try anything stupid I’m gonna kick your ass, got that?”
“I promise I won’t. It’s just sharing a bed, we have our own spots. It’ll be fine, trust me.” Kaede smiled as she put her head down onto the pillow.
They settled into their respective sides on the bed, attempting to get comfortable. Miu could tell that Kaede was peaceful in this situation, but Miu couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward. She was sharing a bed with the girl who is her best friend who she has a crush on. She couldn’t help but be nervous about this.
Miu occasionally stole glances over at Kaede, who was content enough to fall asleep. Her eyes were shut, her breathing slowing and evening out.
She couldn’t help but gaze at Kaede, the soft glow of the moonlight through the window highlighting her features. She couldn’t help but be captivated by her best friend and her attributes.
But, Miu knew that she couldn’t say anything for the sake of their friendship. Kaede was the only one she had, and she didn’t want to fuck it up over her feelings. She shouldn’t be feeling this way about her best friend… right?
Minutes felt like hours as she saw Kaede sleeping peacefully next to her. She felt restless as she laid there, envying the way Kaede slept so easily.
She laid there in bed for a long while, eventually her eyes becoming droopy. Unable to stay awake, sleep got a hold of her, facing Kaede as she did so.
Unbeknownst to Miu, she managed to get a grip on Kaede as they both slept, clinging onto her tightly as if she was going to leave. They slept in that position soundly, neither of them waking up from the contact.
In the morning, Miu woke up to the feel of stirring in her arms.
“W-What?” She muttered, her eyes adjusting to the morning sun shining through the hotel room window.
Once her eyes adjusted and she could make out what she was clinging onto, her whole body felt a surge of warmth due to embarrassment.
She was clinging onto Kaede, who was still stirring and waking up in her arms.
“Huh? Miu, what’s… Huh?” Blood ran to kaede’s face as she looked at Miu’s arms around her.
Miu quickly took her hands off, both of their faces beet red. “S-Shit, Kaede, I-I… Fuck.” Miu stumbled on her words, sincerely hoping that this wouldn't ruin their friendship.
Kaede’s face was still red as she looked below her and fidgeted with a strand of her hair. “Looks like we got ourselves into a little predicament, huh?”
“Listen, Kaede, I-I don’t really know what fuckin’ came over me. Shit, I’m really goddamn sorry, I swear.” Miu avoided looking at Kaede, her eyes going everywhere except at Kaede.
Kaede hesitated, Miu knew that look in Kaede’s eyes at this point. She was thinking of something optimistic to say to make the situation easier. But, Miu couldn’t help but frantically get out of bed. She just wanted to bury herself in a hole and die at this point.
“Wait, Miu.” Miu froze as she felt Kaede’s grip on the hem of her shirt.
“W-What the hell do ‘ya want? Go away!” Miu stuttered, feeling frantic. She knew she didn’t want Kaede to actually go away, but she also didn’t want to hear the rejection that she knew that she would hear if she stayed.
“Miu,” Kaede had a pleading look in her eyes. “Just come here, let’s talk about this, okay? I’m not going to hurt you.”
Miu felt torn. She stared at Kaede, her heart beating rapidly. If she fled right now, she could avoid the high chance of being rejected and dealing with unrequited love. But, Kaede was practically begging for her to stay, Miu could see the desperation on her face.
“Fine, idiot. Make it fuckin’ quick.” Miu sat back down on the bed, sighing in frustration. But, her body was also furiously shaking.
Kaede took a deep breath, and then began speaking. “Clearly, there’s something more on your mind about this. I can tell that something else is bothering you, Miu.”
“And how would you know that, bitch?”
Kaede took Miu’s clammy hand in hers. “Because I’m your best friend.”
Those words felt like a punch to the gut for Miu. Best friends. That’s all they were, that’s all they will ever be. She was a fool for thinking that there would ever be something romantic between the two of them. What was she thinking?
“Miu? Hey, Miu! You’re spacing out.”
“Gah! S-Shut up. You shouldn’t interrupt a genius when they’re thinking, Kaediot!” Miu spat.
Kaede began to caress Miu’s hand gently, making Miu’s heart flutter more than she would’ve liked to admit. “Just breathe, okay? I care about you, you-”
“Stop that! I fuckin’ know you care! I get it!” Miu growled, yanking her hand away from Kaede’s.
Kaede’s eyes widened, staring at Miu in shock due to her sudden outburst. “Hey, what’s gotten into you?”
“Nothing! Maybe something’s gotten into you!” Miu panicked.
Kaede frowned, her expression a mix of confusion and concern for Miu. “I’m just trying to understand, okay? You don’t have to tell me, but I’d really appreciate it if you did. Considering the fact you started acting like this out of the blue with me.”
Miu sighed. “Jesus Christ, I can’t hide anythin’ from you.”
Kaede gave Miu a slight smile at that remark. “Well, I can’t help it. That’s just who I am. Especially with you, of all people.”
Miu sighed, knowing that she can’t fight around this much longer. “Well, fine. I’ll tell ‘ya the truth. But if you’re mad about it, that ain’t my problem. Are we clear, Kaediot?”
“Crystal clear.”
Miu cleared her throat, fidgeting with her fingers. “You make me fuckin’ crazy, Kaediot. You drive me up a goddamn wall. But… in a good way, if that makes a lick of sense,” She sighed, continuing. “What I’m tryin’ to say is that I like ‘ya. More than friends. And it’s so fucking stupid that I fell for my best friend, so don’t rub it in my face.”
Kaede’s eyes immediately softened upon hearing those words. Her mouth opened and closed a few times, words unable to come out. But, then she smiled at Miu.
“Say somethin’, already! Don’t go doing this neglect play shit on me now!” Miu pleaded with an anxious expression, tearing up. She didn’t want to be rejected, especially by Kaede of all people.
Kaede nodded her head, leaning in and wiping some of the tears that fell down Miu’s face. “You’re a big doofus, you know? But, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel the same way about you.”
Miu’s head perked up in surprise, her body freezing in place. “W-What did you just say?”
“I said that I feel the same way.” Kaede’s smile grew as she spoke.
Miu’s jaw dropped, staring at Kaede in confusion. “And you’re serious? You’re not just fucking with me right now?”
Kaede shook her head, taking Miu’s hands again. “I’m serious. I know you have a hard time believing that but I’m definitely serious.”
“Are ‘ya sure? This isn’t some sick joke you’re playing on me?” Miu remained cautious despite Kaede’s reassurance.
“I can assure you that this is not a joke, okay? I’m definitely serious. I care about you, Miu. More than I can express.” Kaede nodded her head as she spoke.
Miu could only stare at her in disbelief for a few moments. Kaede was serious. Miu couldn’t believe it at all. The shock on her face turned into a shy smile after a few seconds.
“O-Oh. So you’re serious.” Miu whispered, her eyes meeting with Kaede’s.
“Yeah, I am.” Kaede whispered back, both of their faces getting closer and closer to one another.
Miu’s heart raced with anticipation as their faces got closer to one another, neither one of them pulling away.
In the heat of the moment, Miu decided to take a chance that she would normally never do. She grabbed Kaede’s face, and yanked her close so that their lips met.
Kaede let out a soft sound of surprise at the sudden motion, but then quickly got into it as she started gently kissing Miu. Miu’s kisses were sloppy in comparison, trying to kiss Kaede as much as she could.
Miu began to get the hang of it, her hands finding their way in Kaede’s soft strands of hair. Kaede softly sighed as they kissed, wrapping her hands around Miu’s waist.
They continued to kiss, occasionally making soft noises of contentment due to the feeling of their lips against each other.
Gradually, they pulled apart from one another. Their faces were red, both slightly panting for breath.
“H-Holy shit.” Miu breathed out.
Kaede nodded her head in response. “Yeah, wow…”
There was a silence for a few moments as the two processed what had just occurred, until Kaede broke the silence between the pair.
“So, what are we, Miu?”
“Huh?”
“You know, us. What are we? We confessed our feelings for each other, and just kissed each other. That’s certainly more than friends. At least, I’m pretty sure of that.” Kaede spoke, running her hand through her hair anxiously.
Miu blushed at the question. She didn’t necessarily think of that. “Oh, shit. I didn’t think of that. I-I…”
Kaede’s head tilted, noticing Miu’s struggle to get her words out. “Wanna be my girlfriend? Only if you really want to, though.”
Miu blinked, taken aback by Kaede’s straightforwardness. She knew this was who Kaede was, but damn. The question hung heavy in the air for a few moments, Kaede staring at Miu with anticipation as she waited.
Miu eventually nodded, deciding to put her trust in Kaede. “Sure, why the hell not.”
Kaede’s eyes lit up, excitedly hugging Miu. “Oh, thank you, thank you! Thank you for putting your trust in me, Miu. I know it’s not easy.”
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t make a big deal out of it, Kaediot.” Miu grumbled, but there was an obvious smile on her face that she couldn’t hide.
“Haha, okay. We’ll take it slow, okay? Even if we’re dating now, let’s just take everything slow and enjoy our vacation together, okay?” Kaede leaned her forehead against Miu’s, feeling the warmth of each other’s faces.
“Okay, fine. I-I’m trustin’ you, idiot. Don’t do anything stupid.”
“Of course, I'd never do anything to hurt you, okay?” Kaede lifted her head up, giving Miu a kiss on the forehead and then pulled her into another hug.
“Yeah, I got it.” Miu let out a content sigh as Kaede held her close to her, taking in her scent and her warmth.
Miu found herself grateful that the pair got the wrong room. Not that she’d ever admit it, though. She figured that she could keep that to herself.
For now, she would enjoy Kaede and all the time they have together.
