Chapter Text
You begrudgingly wake up to the various alarms that you’ve set for yourself to not be late for your interview later in the morning. You look at your alarm clock “8am already? I got to get ready.” Getting ready was a chore when all you wanted was to be in your comfy bed, but you can’t have your roommate pay all the rent this month.
They were nice enough to do that since you lost your job due to the company filing bankruptcy and the unemployed check wasn’t enough to cover your half, so you and your decided to pay for the minor things that the apartment needs. You put on your best business casual outfit and fixed your hair in the mirror, as you try to hype yourself up for the interview while gathering the rest of your belongings for the interview “Ok you got this! This will be the interview.” “I sure hope it is.” You turn around and your roommate is leaning next to their bedroom doorframe. “At least have a little faith in me?” you look at them with pleading eyes. “I do it’s just that your track record is horrible.”
You turn away in guilt, every interview you had resulted in a rejection email. You shake your head “This one is different I’m sure of it!” your roommate’s look softens a little “You might as well go now you’re going to be late for the interview.” You looked at the time it’s 9:30 “Crap I gotta go can you feed Gigi for me?”
Your roommate gives you a nod “Heh, I will now go.” You ran out of the apartment and jogged to the location of the job, it wasn’t that far in walking distance, so you didn’t need to use a car or a train. When you got to the destination, you were out of breath looking at the time “Huff huff, it’s 9:40 I have 20 minutes til the interview.” You didn’t know what to do since you had some time to kill before going into the building, so you looked around and something caught your eye.
A little café that was a couple of stores down it was a cat café, you were excited but had to calm down “I can’t be there for long, and I can’t get cat hairs on my outfit.” You decided to grab something to drink and come back at a later date to pet the cats. Once you walked into the café the scent of coffee was prominent when you opened the door. The place looked cozy with various colored tables and chairs and of course, the cats but the thing that stood out for you was the man behind the counter. He was pretty tall with pitch-black hair with eyes to match and a scar under his left eye. You walked up to him, and he greets you “Hi what’s your order?”
You try to look at the menu and you view your options. The more time you take, the more he seems annoyed, so you decide to order quickly. “Can I have a medium coffee with cream, sugar, and caramel please?” He nodded and gave you the total for your order, you silently paid and waited for it to be made. While you were standing waiting for your order you felt something brush up against your ankle, when you looked down you saw a black cat with green eyes look up at you. You couldn’t help but crouch down and pet the cat and let the purrs smooth your nerves.
“I see Deku took a liking to you.”
You looked up to see the worker holding your order, as you got up from the floor you said thank you. “Deku is a cute name where is he from?” you said turning to face the dark-haired man. “He was brought here as a kitten with an orange cat his age, they don’t get along but they’re the most accustomed to humans.” He said while you two are looking at the 2 cats interacting.
You realized that you lost track of time “Crap what time is time it?!” Your eyes dart towards the watch it’s 9:55 “It was nice meeting you, but I have to go to my interview, but I hope to see you later!” You ran out making sure not to trip over any cats on your way out. Leaving the man where he stood without a chance to say goodbye.
“What an interesting character.” he thought before going back behind the counter and continuing his day.
Some time has passed and you're coming back to your apartment in the early afternoon you plop down on the couch exhausted with a sigh “I almost was late to the interview because of that café.” You thought. Your roommate would’ve chewed you out if you were late, which was reasonable. Since your roommate is now at work you have the apartment to yourself, it gets kind of lonely being in the space alone. You heard a meow, and you turn your head it’s your cat Gigi “Hey girl how is it going?” you put your cat in your lap and start petting her. The place doesn’t seem that lonely with Gigi, you’ve gotten her about a year ago when she was 2 years old. Even though she took some time to adjust, she felt at home in no time.
You smile at your cat then turn your attention to your phone to the notifications and emails you’ve ignored this morning. Most of it is social media, you weren’t much of a social guru, but you scroll around for funny videos and news about how the world is on fire today. Something caught your eye; it was the same cat from the café earlier and you decided to take a look at the account. “Mew Mew Café?” you scroll through the account until you saw a familiar face “It’s the cashier” You realize this is the cat cafés account and that you should pay attention to the names of the places you go to. You decided to give the account a follow before swapping apps to your email checking for any updates on your application or any new interviews.
A glimmer of hope shined into your eye when you noticed an email from the employer whom you’ve recently done an interview with, you opened the email, and as fast as the glimmer of hope came it went. “Damn rejected again.” You sighed and sank into your couch “Back to the drawing board we go.” You said dreadfully. After some time scrolling on social media to drown away your sorrows, you decided to wash up and get into something comfy, afterwards, your roommate came home.
“Hey, how did the interview go?” your roommate said after putting up their bag. “It went pretty well but, I still got rejected,” you said without taking your eyes off the TV. Your roommate gave you an apologetic look and sat right next to you on the couch “It ok dude I have enough money for the rent this month you can take the minor bills.” You cringed “I know that, but I don’t want you to pay all of it by yourself.” You felt helpless. “Look man you got unlucky and that sucks ass, but you’re looking for work, paying bills, and took up the cooking and cleaning so cut yourself some slack.” Your roommate smiled at you “Plus if you didn’t do that, I would’ve kicked you out ages ago.”
Your roommate chuckled while you give them a small smile “Oh wow what words of encouragement for not getting kicked out.” you taunted. “You know what I meant.” Your roommate stands up and stretches “I’m going to head in for the night got to go to work early tomorrow.” You bid your roommate good night and decided to hit the hay yourself, so you turned the TV off and walked towards your bedroom.
Once you entered the room you went straight to your bed you were tired from the day you had “Hopefully I have any luck finding job openings tomorrow, this is becoming a pain in the ass.” You groaned. The thought of the cat café wandered into your mind, “It wouldn’t hurt to go back there, it might help me relax and take a break.” You didn’t ponder on it too much on the thought since you doze off into a deep slumber.
