The Stamp

Summary:

The assistant gives Akutagawa his stamp!

Doctor’s assistant but in beast woo

Work Text:

The doctor's assistant slowly walked through the agency as he held some supplies that the doctor asked him to get.

He continued onward while holding the somewhat heavy bags before noticing a young man under a desk.

“Uh whatcha doing bud?” The assistant asked in concern upon realizing it was the random orphan that Mr Oda found.

The assistant only received a blank stare from the eyebrowless orphan.

He put the bags down before slowly sitting on the floor in front of the younger man. His dress doing a little puff as he did.

“Let me guess, is it stomach pains? I also sit on the floor when my stomach hurts!” The assistant asked after a beat of silence.

The younger man only stared blankly at the assistant.

“Come on man, work with me, as the doctor’s assistant it’s my job to make sure all agency members are healthy!” He said calmly in an attempt to comfort him.

“You are Yosano-sensei’s assistant?” The orphan replied suddenly.

“Yep, that’s me!” The assistant responded, happy that he was finally talking to him.

“Wait, is she the reason you're hiding under a desk?” The assistant asked upon noticing the little hint of fear in the younger man’s eyes.

Getting quite annoyed with the questioning, the orphan spoke again “Promise you won’t rat me out to the doctor and I’ll tell you!” The orphan requested sternly.

“Promise…” the assistant calmly responded.

“If you break this promise, I will cut you up like a fish!” The orphan promised.

“Yea, yea I promise, now spill!” The assistant shot back.

After a moment of silence the orphan explained his situation “In order to get Ranpo-san’s help on the search for my sister I need to get a stamp of approval from every agency member.”

“Oh dear..” the assistant let out quietly, already knowing where this was going.

“Yosano-sensei told me that she would sign me off if she was allowed to use her ability on me forty times.” The orphan finished.

There was a beat of silence before it was interrupted by the assistant’s quiet laughter.

“What?” The orphan asked.

“I think she’s just messing with you.” I answered before explaining “Look I think she’s probably just gonna give you the stamp anyway, even if you don’t do the whole treatment thing.”

“You think so?” The orphan asked, confused.

“I mean maybe…” the assistant responded unconvincingly.

Just like that the little glimmer of hope the orphan had quickly disappeared.

“Ok, uh how about this!” The assistant said suddenly before continuing “What if you did something for me, if you do that I’ll give you your stamp and I might be able to convince the doctor to sign you off!”

“Really?” The orphan asked.

“Hold on now, I can give you a stamp, but no promises on the second part, deal?” The assistant warned. Only receiving a nod from the younger man.

“Now get out the desk, please.” The assistant asked as he got up from the floor.

The orphan took the shorter man’s hand and stood up, only to receive a blank stare from the assistant, ‘another day, another child that’s taller than me.’

“Oh, uh I never asked for your name?” The assistant asked suddenly.

“Akutagawa.” The orphan answered.

“Ok, Mr Akutagawa!” The assistant replied only receiving a blank stare once again.

“What do you want me to do for the stamp?” Akutagawa asked after a moment of silence.

“Oh! Uhhhh…. I didn’t think that far ahead.” The assistant muttered.

“How about you buy me a bagel!” The assistant suggested with a snap of his fingers.

“A bagel?” Akutagawa asked, giving a look that the assistant could only assume was confusion.

“Yep!” The assistant confirmed.

Akutagawa stared for a minute before turning around and promptly headed out of the agency.

-

“Miss Doctor, I have the supplies you asked for!” The assistant greeted, as he walked into the infirmary.

“Good, just put them in the cabinet please.” Yosano ordered, never turning to face him as she cleaned her scalpel in the sink.

“So uh Akutagawa huh.” The assistant randomly said as he put the supplies down.

“Yep, fresh meat!” The doctor responded sarcastically, “are you going to give him a stamp?” She asked.

“Oh uh of course!” He answered awkwardly.

“Assistant,” she stated, getting very annoyed by this awkward conversation and decided to cut to the chase, “are you here because of the deal me and Akutagawa made?” She asked.

“I don’t know, I was just wondering if you could give him the stamp without… you know.” He answered awkwardly, not even questioning how she got to that conclusion so easily.

“Well he’s the one who said he’d do anything to find his sister!” She replied lazily.

“Ma’am,” her assistant responded dryly.

“Oh fine, I’ll think about it.” She replied bored “on one condition of course!”

“I’ve already put all of Akutagawa’s treatment in my schedule!” Yosano explained before turning to face her assistant. “So I guess I’ll need someone to fill in for him.” She added in fake distress.

“Y-yes ma’am” her assistant melted immediately in response.

The doctor laughed “I look forward to your personal examination ~” she replied teasingly.

-

“So uh tell me the story again.” The assistant asked as he bandaged the boy’s wound.

“Well I was investigating a robbery that happened a couple days ago, so I went to this local gang to ask them if they knew anything about it!” Kenji explained happily as he sat on his desk.

“And one of them stabbed you…” the assistant replied as he finished bandaging his wound.

“Yep!” The boy confirmed “If that man never stabbed me, we would have never figured out who the robbers were!” Kenji exclaimed as he examined his bandage.

“Yea, I don’t think that’s—” the assistant was cut off by Akutagawa triumphantly opening the agency’s front door.

“Akutagawa-san!” Kenji greeted his friend.

“Kenji” Akutagawa nodded in response before putting his focus on the assistant.

“I have them!” Akutagawa stated as he held out the bag.

“What’s this?” The assistant asked as he took the bag.

“The bagels,” the orphan answered, giving him a stern look.

“Oh yea!” The assistant exclaimed before gently putting a hand on Akutagawa's shoulder “Thank you my kind sir!” He said calmly, only reviving a look of confusion from the orphan.

“Oh yea, you probably want that stamp right?” The assistant said once he noticed the orphan stare.

The assistant pulled out a rubber stamp before taking the card out of Akutagawa’s hand “there you go!” He said as he gave the card back after stamping it.

“Thank you” Akutagawa replied “What of Yosano-sensei?” The orphan asked.

“Oh she said she’d think about it” the assistant replied awkwardly.

Akutagawa only nodded in response with that little hint of fear in his eyes before walking away.

“Hey Kenji, here!” The assistant said as he handed the boy the bag of bagels.

The boy gasped in delight “Really? Thank you so much medical-san!” Kenji said cheerfully as he took the bag.

“You're very welcome dear.” The assistant said calmly before being distracted by the infirmary doors opening.

“Oh assistant! It’s time for your scheduled check up!” Yosano said sarcastically.

“of c-course doctor,” the assistant replied awkwardly before obediently following her inside the infirmary.

Kenji only looked on in confusion as he happily ate his bagels.
