Work Text:

The phone vibrates in the pocket of his wasted jeans.

It's just a Sunday morning. The last thing Clark wants is to take the call, but that's what he does. "It's not work," he exhales, thankful that the name "Oliver baby" appears on his phone.

His lovers aren't home. Green Arrow and Black Canary were called by Batman to assist in a diplomatic meeting. Apparently, Clark wasn't invited because Nightwing isn't a human hero. Arrow stood up for him, calling the decision to leave Nightwing behind was insular.

Though Clark appreciates dearly when Oliver and Dinah side with him, Clark understood then and still does, that few planets accept people coming from somewhere else in the universe. Sadly, Clark knows that by experience. People in Krypton are unkind to other races, too.

"I guess, we would never learn until it's too late, Clark thinks—Deep in thought, Clark almost misses Oliver's second call attempt.

"Hello, dear, I'm answering this call from the kitchen, and no, I haven't burnt your mansion," Clark says, amused.

"Ha! You think you're funny, playing with my feelings, Blue," Oliver sounds like he drank too much last night.

"You guys partied late last night?" Clark is intrigued. Human diplomatic meetings seem to be more entertaining than he thought.

"He went out with Hal in a guys' night," Dinah says, joining the call.

"Ouch, that can't be good?" Clark says, carefully.

"It's fine!" Dinah screams in the distance. There's a zipping sound in the distance. She must be getting ready to rock another day with her tight jeans and black boots.

"It's not fine," Oliver says, exhaling loudly. "I'll make it up for her... later... when we are home," Oliver hints lewdly intentions in his tone.

Clark snorts, "I get it, Oli."

"Can you two stop thinking about getting laid and get to work?" Dinah says while texting Clark the last updates on Vertigo. "Don't forget to check on Roy, dear. He's out of rehab but still adapting, okay?"

"I always do and always will." Clark knows how deeply Dinah worries for her adopted son. That human nature to protect their loved ones, that's something Kryptonians share with them.

Clark ends the call wishing them well in today's meeting. It's only 11 in the morning, which means there's still time for visiting Speedy in the Titans Tower with the excuse of bringing breakfast.

Life never goes as planned.

Clark arrives at the Titans Tower a few hours before midnight. The peanut butter sandwiches are long gone, Clark ate them. However, Clark brought something better with him. He picked a bag of Roy's favourite candy and got Chinese takeout.

The Titans live in the Tower without adult supervision, which is frowned upon by humans, but somehow Batman and the League trust the teenagers to do the right thing.

Clark trusts in their youthful enthusiasm and fiery ideals. However, when it comes to taking care of themselves, Clark is certain the teens fail as much as their adult counterparts do.

Using his x-ray vision to make sure Roy isn't hiding any drugs or alcohol in his bedroom isn't enough. Clark takes his time to analyze the teen's body for any deep wound or broken bone. Besides some open wounds that need patching, Roy seems to be doing fine on his own.

Clark places the food on the desk, and turns on the small desk lamp. The first aid kit is right there, next to a geometry book. Clark is quick to notice that Roy must have tried to patch himself up, but he probably was too exhausted to do so, ending up falling sleep on the bed.

He needs to come home for a week or so, Clark thinks, while putting on sterile gloves. While working throughly Roy's injured arms, Dinah and Oliver call him. Both go overboad in worry for their little redhead, that it's hard to stay in the same room as Roy without waking the boy up.

"Call me later, okay? No... later, I say... later..." Clark's hushed voice doesn't wake up Roy. Clark will take that as today's win because Ra knows the boy needs to rest.

"How is he?" It's the first thing Dinah asks in the morning, just after waking Clark up at 6.

"How is it legal to call someone at this hour?" Clark teases.

"Is he fine?" Oliver asks too.

Clark is touched. He's been in Earth just for a few months, but the deep feelings humans feel never fail to surprise him. Roy is a tough boy. In Krpyton, Roy would be considered an adult warrior, and such worry coming from his parents would be considered disrespectful. However, here, humans call it love.

"When I left the Titans Tower, his vitals were back to normal, but I left him a note, saying I'll join him for lunch."

Dinah and Oliver don't know, for they have only met his more human side, but Clark has changed. He has become an overbearing protector too.

They thank him for everything, and little do they know that Clark is the one in debt with them. This little family—Dinah, Oliver and Roy—have made him feel alive again.
