Summary
The year is 1665. Seven months after his father’s death sent Langa and his mother from their home in the Dutch colony of Batavia to a rural village in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), the friendly fox Langa has befriended shocks him by turning into a beautiful young man. At 114, Reki is just coming into his own as a kitsune—a fox whose longevity has granted him supernatural intelligence and abilities. Reki becomes a guardian to Langa against the hardships of poverty and the unwanted advances of the local lord. But it soon becomes clear that Reki and his fellow foxes may be the ones who need protection.
