It was winter on this world, any one of the hundreds in Cordova's notes. Cere blew the steam off of her cup of tea. There was nothing here, Cal had checked yesterday before the storm, if Cordova had visited here he had had left no trail to follow. The storm continued to howl outside smashing uselessly against the cockpit windows but the swirling snow was enough to obscure the docking bay where the mantis was parked. Greez was out there right now trying to negotiate for more fuel. So they wouldn't be running the ship on lower heat to save power. The blank whiteness didn't really offer her anything as a distraction, better to go check on her non-apprentice. After all she was no one's master anymore.
She found him huddled on his cot in the engine room, a blanket wrapped tightly around his curled form and the whole thing rocking heavily with the force of his shivering. BD was on the charging port above his head. She looked around the room but there were no other blankets except the ones wrapped around him.
There always was the faded yellow one she kept at the foot of her bed, never used it should be echo free and it was far too heavy for her. It would do nicely. Bring it back to the engine room she carefully folded it, so it lay mostly over the bottom half of the cot letting the top half gently rest over Cal's legs. She was rewarded with him uncurling slowly into the now warmed space. Still on his side but now stretch the length of the cot she unfolded the top half of the blanket over his shoulders and watched the last of the tension melt out of his body. Smiling softly she reclaimed her mug and returned to her window watching.
