CHAPTER 1
Cindy Moon is in class, she’s 17 years old, and her graduation is just around the corner, she’s anxious and afraid, she lets out a cold sweat. Many things happened prior, she told her mom she hated her, and got bit by a radioactive spider, instead of her parents chastising, and berating her they held her. Ezekiel Sims came into their lives and every instinct told her not to trust him... But without any options left, she accepted his help. Ezekiel discovers she is the chosen one, the queen of spiders, and had to hide from a spider-killing vampire, she asks him how long, and he refuses to say but the choice is hers. Her mind goes back to powers, spider-killing vampires, and death. After class is over she pukes in the bathroom, she looks at the clock she’s late for tutoring. She tutors Mary Jane, who’s struggling with physics due to her being in the acting club, and hardships at home. Cindy became a tutor because of the extra credit and because her mom believes it will look good on applications aside from Hockey. Tutoring MJ is the only time she feels less afraid of everything. MJ talks about her family sometimes, how her father was abusive, how she constantly moved with her mom and sister, and how acting is easy for her. She feels no one understands her, the guys view her as a prize, the other girls hate her, and Cindy is her only friend. She tells her secret to acting is that she’s always afraid, always anxious, and she embraces that fear to feel human, to let her vulnerabilities and anxieties out.
MJ gets kidnapped by her father and Silk with the only power to do anything can save her. MJ’s father talks to her daughter apologizing for everything he did but it's never enough, he’s about to hit her until Silk comes in beating everyone up. It goes well until her father shoots her in the shoulder. Panic, fear, and anxiety overwhelm Cindy as she hides on the ceiling. Her father tries to draw her out, and Cindy is having a panic attack, but the fear and anxiety she’s feeling get replaced with anger as she gets out of the shadows and beats her father bloody. MJ can only watch in shock as they stare into their eyes before the police arrive. Cindy is confronted by her parents for leaving and being reckless. She tells them she wasn’t stupid, and she knows she will get hurt, but she doesn’t want to be afraid, she wants to live her life. She asks them, begs them, and begs to Ezekial not to put her in the bunker. They accept.
That is when Silk is born.
CHAPTER 2
Months pass, and she gets a better grip on her powers and abilities. New villains begin popping up: Vulture, Electro, Rhino, Dr. Octopus, Shocker, Kraven, and Sandman give her a hard time but nothing she can’t handle. She wishes her personal life would do better. Her boyfriend found out and broke up with her, her parents are constantly on her for being reckless and being behind on her studies Ezekial is hard on training her more. J. Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle hate her. Fought a lizard and considered using a gene cleanser to cure herself but thought against itShe’s burnt, worn out, and lies on her bed trying to relax until she hears a voice in her head telling her to meet on the rooftop.
It’s Peter Parker, she knows him, he’s a nerd and a student at the high school she goes to, he’s also in her physics class but it is hard to tell him apart since all the other white guys in the school look the same. He offers to be the person who helps her behind the desk. She tells him to go away until he tells her he knows her secret identity. It wasn’t hard to piece together after that fight she had with Sandman at their school. He doesn’t want to blackmail her but asks her why she does it. She has amazing, fantastical powers but she uses them to help others while he would use his powers irresponsibly… why does she do it? She tells him it was because she was terrified of her powers at first, they weren’t amazing, they were terrifying, scary, she didn’t know how to control them, her parents wanted her to be safe but there was this one person who told her it’s ok to be afraid and embrace her fear and she does this mainly for her, to protect the ones she loves, and maybe to be less alone than she feels right now. Peter tells her about his uncle and aunt and tells her what he would have done, use it to get rich, and famous, and admits she is a better person than he is.
More time passes and thanks to his gadgets handling other villains becomes easier as if a burden got released from her shoulders.
The next day Cindy is tutoring MJ as usual, senior prom is coming up and Cindy has no one to go with. MJ tells her her aunt knows some guy's aunt and is making her go on a date with him and asks Cindy to be her plus one. MJ tells her about him and Cindy laughs. Cindy meets Peter in her Silk persona and Peter talks about senior prom and her aunt pairing her with this girl who seems like an emotional wreck, he asks if Cindy is going out with anyone. She’s flustered at first and Peter tells her she doesn’t have to answer her if she doesn’t want to, he makes dumb jokes to ease the tension. Cindy only tells her there’s this… person she likes… and asked her to be her plus one, she’s not sure about her own emotions or is going way too deep into this. Peter gives him her support.
Day of prom Cindy is looking through her wardrobe, she’s nervous, she doesn’t know what to wear, should she dress formally? Modest? Punk? In between? Would it be too masculine? Feminine? Is she a girl? Guy? A bad girl? A bad guy? She decides to look up Sailor Uranus in her suit and go with that. Her parents hug her and ask her to be safe. Cindy arrives and waits outside of the school. She’s nervous, she’s sweating, is this part of her powers? Why is this so scary? Mary Jane calls out to her, she turns and is shocked to find MJ’s date is Peter Parker. Both of them stare at each other in shock.
It’s prom, Peter and Cindy are drinking punch each other, Peter awkwardly asks if MJ is the only one she tutors. Cindy takes a big gulp of her punch hoping there’s some alcohol in it because she has no goddamn mental capacity to explain this shit to him.
MJ wants them to join her on the dance floor. Peter and Cindy talk. It’s awkward. Cindy starts first that she didn’t know Peter likes MJ and if he did she would back off believing MJ doesn’t even think of her that way. Peter tries to joke saying he doesn’t like her, he’s too much for him, she’s wild, a partygoer, and tells her he thinks they’re good friends. MJ drags Cindy to the dance floor, a slow song starts… they hold on to each other, MJ looks at her, she notices Cindy is nervous, MJ asks her what’s wrong, she doesn’t have to be afraid before Cindy can answer, the Sinister Seven barge in wanting Silk.
Everyone runs, MJ gets lost in the crowd, Cindy uses the distraction to get into her Silk uniform, Peter gets MJ out and MJ realizes Cindy is still in there. Peter goes through all the chaos saying she’ll find her, MJ is worried and scared as she can only and wait. Silk is getting overwhelmed but Peter comes in acting as bait allowing Silk to gain the upper hand. All the villains are webbed up and Peter and Cindy talk. Peter tells her he was never angry at her, he felt Cindy being her was a relief from his shoulders,
“Why would I stop being your best friend?”
and her secret of her crush on MJ and her identity is still safe with him, the adventure is good enough, he makes a joke and she gently punches him. MJ is glad they’re fine.
CHAPTER 3
It’s graduation day beforehand Cindy got accepted into Oxford but she had other backups, one of them was ESU. She decides to go to ESU with Peter, Harry, Liz, and MJ. MJ and Cindy become roommates. It’s great, life is great, she should be happy.
But why does she feel… so… alone?
Cindy decides to get a degree in journalism.
Peter got an internship from Oscorp on radioactive spiders.
Mary Jane is pursuing acting.
Harry is a good guy but sometimes he scares her.
And is surprised Peter got himself a girlfriend… Gwen Stacy.
MJ and Gwen Stacy become good friends, Cindy liked her too… but she had a really bitch thought because she still has a crush on MJ.
The green goblin shows up wanting Cindy’s powers, constantly harassing her, trying to bring Cindy into the dark side, and wanting her to use her powers for herself. That with her powers she can take anything.
She’s shocked to realize it was Harry at first or so she believes and tells Peter. Peter doesn’t believe her, it can’t be Harry, Harry is his best friend and it can’t be Norman either because Norman was with him when the Goblin attacked too.
Both find out Norman is the real Green Goblin, Chameleon acts as Norman sometimes, and Silk tries to stop him.
It leads to the point where Green Goblin kidnaps Gwen Stacy to bring Silk out. Knowing Peter’s relationship with her and by extension Cindy makes it better.
Norman drops Gwen, Silk tries to save her but fails, and she snaps her neck, she tries to apologize, telling her to get up, please get up, Captain Stacy finds her daughter’s body, Peter yells at Cindy, Silk goes back to her apartment and MJ finds out Cindy is Silk.
Cindy and MJ talk. MJ just asks her why she became Silk. Silk is honest, it was because of her, and she admits, she loves her. So many thoughts come into Cindy’s mind, she thinks she will be angry at her for Gwen’s death, disgusted by her for having these feelings for her. But MJ just looks at her and tells her she knew, she wasn’t good at hiding it but she can’t love her like that, but she still wants to be her friend, she will always be with her, support her by her side, she will always be here for her worst, scared moments, and she will talk with Peter.
MJ talks with Peter and she’s mad at Cindy believing she purposefully killed his girlfriend, MJ tries to reason with him until he says–
You wouldn’t shed a tear if your mom died.
And MJ had every right to walk out on him, let him get consumed by his anger and grief, she opens the door but looks back.
She slams the door shut looking back at him, she’s not doing this for his own sake.
She’s doing this for Gwen.
She’s doing this for Cindy.
MJ tells him a secret, about a dream Cindy had of her not being alone, among other things.
They work it out in the end.
CHAPTER 4
Cindy, MJ, and Peter graduated and one night they tell Cindy they’re dating.
Something breaks within Cindy.
She wishes them the best of luck but inside she’s hurting. Other things come up, her parents are now constantly on her ass to give up being a hero, her boss J. Jonah Jameson constantly yelling at her, a cat thief who annoys (kind of likes her?) and this asshole Eddie Brock trying to get dirt on Silk.
Secret Wars happened and gets exposed to a symbiote and she feels more happy but also strangely more angry.
She wears a leather jacket, and black jeans, got herself a bob cut with sideburns, and everyone is surprised by her new personality and looks.
But she’s spending less time with them and more time with the symbiote. Peter and MJ try to talk to her but she lashes out to them saying they never help her and they view her as their third wheel, pity her so she won’t feel alone.
She breaks into J. Jonah Jameson’s office yells at him that he has no idea who she is and always posting lies about her, and she’s doing everything she can to save/protect people like him. She webs Eddie Brock and reveals how much of a fraud he is.
Family dinner, Cindy lashes out to her mom telling her she hates her from the bottom of her heart for trying to make her do so much, nothing was ever enough for her, ‘Do this Cindy, do that Cindy! If you don’t do this you won’t get a job!’ and the fact her mom never even tried to understand her. Albert comes in and cries.
Cindy confronts Black Cat who beats her up for always annoying her asking her why!? Why does she do this!? And she sees fear… FEAR and that’s when Cindy realizes she screwed up.
Cindy ends up at the church and realizes the suit is trying to take her over, she fights it off and uses the church bell to get it off of her, and Eddie gets exposed to the symbiote.
Cindy fights Venom. Cindy apologizes to MJ and Peter and apologizes to her family.
She apologizes to Felicia and talks about herself. She tells her how she got her powers, her fears, anxieties, and anger, Black Cat asks if she dreams. Cindy tells her she dreams she wasn’t alone. Cindy for the first time kisses Felicia.
It felt amazing.
