Work Text:
Ten minutes ago I saw you
I looked you when you came through the door
Hawks really wasn’t one for these frou-frou charity events. He’d rather be out on patrol, where he’d at least get a bit of excitement.
But that changed once you made your way onto center stage.
My head started reeling
You gave me the feeling
The room had no ceiling or floor
For the past ten minutes you’d been serenading the crowd with your voice and playing their heart strings with your passion.
It took everything in him not to sing with you. Not only would they be totally embarrassing but he really didn’t want to have the Commission down his throat for letting his avian traits slip through.
Ten minutes ago I met you
And we murmured our how-do-you-do’s
Once the show was over and the mingling began, Hawks made a beeline for you.
“Your singing is beautiful.”
“Oh thank you—” You gasped, “You’re Hawks! I should be the one thanking you.” You gave a deep bow.
I wanted to ring out the bells
And fling out my arms and to sing out the news
I have found her, she’s an angel
With the dust of the stars in her eyes
“No need to thank me! Just doing what I love.” He laughed.
“Well, still— this is probably the only time I’ll be able to thank my favorite hero in person.” You fumbled with your fingers as you maintained eye contact.
We dancing, we are flying
And she’s taking me back to the skies
His heart soared.
You were everything and more.
Ten minutes ago I met you
And we murmured our how-do-you-do’s
You couldn’t believe you were talking to Hawks!
Even when he was dragged away to talk with other heroes or to take pictures, he always found his way back to you.
I wanted to ring out the bells
And fling out my arms and sing out the news
Could you be in love?
Sure he was your absolute favorite hero and always made your heart lurch
But the way he was looking at you
Did he feel something too?
I have found her
Hawks had found his sun
And he was determined to reach it.
I have found him
You were in love with the unobtainable.
You were Icarus destined to lose your wings and drown.
In the arms of my love I'm flying
Over mountain and meadow and glen
But you’d relish in this moment for as long as your wax allowed.
And I like it so well
That for all I can
I may never come down again
Right now, Hawk’s was just barely above the ground in his journey but he knew he could take his time.
He was the fastest hero after all.
I may never come down to earth again
