Work Text:
Annabeth has a lot of reasons to be angry at the Gods.
Stealing her boyfriend for six months, making her go on quest after quest, making her face her worst fear and causing her to fall into Tartarus. The list goes on.
But most importantly, she’s angry for the apathy that made Luke turn on them, and her in turn.
She considers revenge - It's what she does best, after all. But Annabeth knows that wouldn’t benefit her, only serving to anger the Gods and put a target on her back. That doesn’t stop her from fantasizing.
She would start with Ares, he’s easily manipulated. She would dress up, paint on a red lip, flash a smile and a condescending laugh. She would have him head over heels. She knows she's pretty - Percy makes sure she does. Ares would swoon - the meathead only thinks with his dick.
She'd make sure Aphrodite sees. She’d touch Ares’ arm, flick her hair over her shoulder and wink. Aphrodite would be seething, to the point she would go back to her husband, where he would reject her and subject her to more humiliation.
Hephestus hasn’t done much to Annabeth, she can admit that much. He’d get off almost scott-free, having to live with the knowledge that he’ll never be his wife’s first choice. He already does.
Next, she would target Zeus and Hera. As easy as it would be, Annabeth couldn’t stomach the thought of seducing Zeus, and it would be a fruitless endeavor anyway - Hera is too used to his cheating. No, she would have to target them individually. She could steal Zeus’ master bolt again, but frankly, she's too clever to redo something that Zeus has to see coming by now.
She would convince the Olympians to overthrow Zeus. Yes, surely being dethroned would more than bruise the King God’s massive ego. Annabeth knows that one or two whispers in the right ears would put Poseidon in his place - or worse, maybe even Hades. As for Hera, this would dethrone her as well, and without her power over the other Gods, she’s a shell of who she once was. She might even beg, crawl on her knees to Annabeth, trying to set it all right.
Ha. As if.
Annabeth could leave Dinonysis alone. Afterall, he is still serving his 100 year sentence at Camp Half-Blood. But really, after terrorizing her and every other camper for years, why should he be pardoned? Perhaps she’d let Chiron choose, though the old horse would probably preach something about nonviolence and how the best revenge is succeeding, and some other nonsense.
No, Annabeth's perfect revenge for Dionysus would be to find as many young half-bloods as possible and bring them to camp all at once. It's the perfect plan, really - kids stay out of danger, and Mr. D is as miserable as possible. She might consider following through on this one.
Hermes is a special case. Hermes, the Messenger God, who couldn’t write a lousy letter to his son. Hermes, who tried to stop Luke after the damage was all done. Hermes, who for all intents and purposes, did nothing out of the ordinary for a god of his olympian status.
Truely, as much as she doesn’t want to admit, the only revenge suitable for Hermes has already happened - watching his son destroy himself, knowing he could've stopped it.
As for Poseidon? Well, Annabeth is already getting her revenge on Poseidon by dating his son.
The last Olympian Annabeth would get revenge on is Athena. She would get revenge for everything . She would get revenge for Aracne, for beating her and thus having her children chase Annabeth her whole life. She would get revenge for the year the Gods were split, when both Athena and Minerva ignored her, chose not to engage with her, they gave her not a shred of advice, no comforting words, not even a nod of acknowledgment. Yes, Annabeth would get revenge for all of it.
She would start by dating Percy. It's small, something she clearly would have chosen to do no matter what, but it pisses off her mother nonetheless, and that's a small victory. Then, she would be successful in school. She would be accepted into New Rome University, while her mother would’ve pushed her towards an ivy league.
She would hone her weaving skills, and though it may as well kill her, she would weave tapestries of her journey to recover the Athena Parthenos, spiders and all. She would make sure to put extra detail into the spider legs, and if she forgets a few key features of the statue, who's to say?
Annabeth would get revenge on her mother by fixing her relationship with her father. She would visit more often, make an effort to have a civil relationship with her step family. She would help her brothers with their homework, and when they have a project that involves designing or building, they would happily call her for advice.
Most of all, Annabeth would get revenge on Athena by being happy. She would have friends and a boyfriend who love her, a thriving future career, and a family she could always turn to.
Annabeth fantasizes about revenge quite a lot.
One day, she might commit to it.
