Chapter Text
It was a Wednesday morning and Darlin had been up for a few hours. A few hours meaning they had been up since six in the morning, and six in the morning meaning they had not slept all night. And Darlin knew this because they felt Sam's big arms around their body and resting his chin on their head. Sam usually wakes up at nine and it's usually never with Darlin beside him.
“Since when have you been up?” He said hoarsely.
“Not long.” Darlin put the cup of coffee in their lips, it was the third cup since they got out of bed.
“Not long, huh?” Sam positioned himself beside them so they can see his morning face. “The two cups in the sink don't say the same.” He pointed with his gaze to the kitchen sink.
There was no point in lying to him.
“I couldn't sleep.” Darlin immediately felt that gaze Sam gives only to them, like he was seeing a wounded animal that is just walking aimlessly through the world.
“You never can, Darlin.” Sam moved one stray of hair from their partners face as he said it. They knew deep down Sam didn't intended to say that in a mean way but it felt accusatory. So they moved from the table to the couch and let Sam to deal with his own words.
“David texted me.” Darlin said as they felt guilty for being so passive-aggressive for no reason. They have been like this for a while and the lack of sleep made it worse. “He said he had something important to discuss.” They tried to imitate David's deep voice, which made Sam laugh in turn.
“Yes, he called me yesterday.” As Darlin was sipping their third coffee it spilled when Sam said that.
“He called you? What for?”
“For nothing more than what you just said. He wants to talk.” Sam wasn't looking at Darlin when he said that, he was doing something in the kitchen, but Darlin still stared at him, at his back. Stared, and stared.
This was the thing, Darlin had been feeling uncomfortably weird lately but refused to talk about it with anybody and less than anything Sam, it was like an uncontrollable feeling of anger and it was constant but they had nothing to be angry at. Not now that they were okay, they were more than okay, they were happy and moving on from the past.
Except when David texted them that they had something important to discuss only to find out yesterday Sam got a call from him saying the exact same. Yesterday. Why didn't David told them first? And why didn't Sam brought it up yesterday?
Yesterday.
Darlin looked to where Sam was and he had started to wash all the dishes that Darlin usually leaves in the middle of the night. And they felt guilty for ever thinking bad of their love.
But why David...?
“Darlin.” Sam's low voice pulled them from the trance they were in.
“Yes?”
“I said do you want to eat out tonight.”
“Today? Why?” What is this?
“I don't know. We could do somethin' nice for a change. We're always here at home.” Sam looked at Darlin as they looked beyond him.
“Since when does Sam Collins like to eat where there's strangers?” Sam laughed his loud and contagious laugh, one he only does when they're together.
“Since my partner has become the stereotype of a lone wolf. Pun intended.” Sam dried his hands and walked slowly towards them, he wore a smile that made Darling blush because to them that smile meant I want to kiss you so badly.
“I've always been a lone wolf, vampire.” Darlin felt themselves cringe at the last word as memories of them calling Quinn vampire lovingly crossed their mind for a millisecond. “That's why you liked me.”
“That... And other things.“ Sam sat beside them and kissed them gently and shortly. “One of which includes your... Attributes.” He looked at their lower back, and Darlin gave him a playful push.
“You pervert.” They kissed again, this time the kisses were more intimate and longer. Darlin felt calm again, as if the anger was never there to begin with.
Sam broke what was becoming a torrid kiss and said: “I love you, Darlin.” They smiled as he caress their face with one of his big hands. “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I love you.”
His hands were so big, even for Darlin, one hand of Sam could hold half of their face if not most. Why were they thinking of his hands? They wanted his fingers in their mouth.
“So, so much.” Sam started to kiss their neck not so gently now. Darlin wished he would just bite them. Darlin let out a moan. And they knew they would not get out of the house at all that day.
A few hours, and a a lot, a lot more kisses later, they knocked the door and Sam tried to recompose himself from the bed to see who was knocking so hard the door might fall in any second. Darlin stayed in bed debating whether it was worth it for them to put their clothes or to just wait until that person leaves. Then they heard David's recognisable deep voice and his footsteps going further inside the house. They jumped from the bed and put on their clothes back on before opening the bedroom door and seeing their alpha's face centimeters from theirs.
“We need to talk. Now.”
