Chapter Text
As he was about to pass through the entrance of the Cortex, Harry could feel it. A pair of eyes watching his movements and a slight chill in the air.
“Good morning Frost,” he said, cutting the silence in the room as he finished his walk into the room. He set his bag down in the empty chair closest to the main computer. He had some upgrades he wanted to install in the system today.
“Good morning Harry,” Frost responded, slowly walking closer to where he was seated with a coy expression on her face. “So... what are you gonna do tonight?”
“The same thing I do every night, try to take over the world,” he paraphrased nonchalantly, opening his bag and pulling out a few hard drives. It was surprising how many old cartoons the two had bonded over in the past couple of months.
Frost chuckled at the reference but then shifted to a more curious look before continuing, “Okay but seriously, what are you doing tonight?”
“…Why?” Harry inquired as he stopped his movements.
“Well, today is an important day and I figured you and Caitlin would do something special,” she explained but something was off, a subtle but noticeable energy seemed to be radiating off of her. He took in that information carefully and thought long and hard about the words she said before he responded.
“You want the apartment for yourself so you and Nash can canoodle,” he stated plainly.
“First of all, never say canoodle again, and secondly, that’s only partly true-”
“Uh-huh-”
“But it really is an important day for Caitlin. It’s Pi Day.”
“Frost, if it was really that important she would have told me,” he said as he started connecting the drives to the computers in front of him, the monitor in front of him displaying the files and programs he needed to add.
“Look, I was literally inside her head her entire life. I think it’s safe to say I know the things Caitlin likes,” she explained.
“Is it even an official holiday on this Earth?” he asked, bringing his attention back to Frost. He knew about the day but on his Earth, it was never something that was brought up. It was more of a cute thing for children to do for a school project to introduce them to math concepts. If it was important to Snow he was sure she would have told him.
“A holiday is intended to allow people to celebrate an event or tradition of cultural significance,” she stated matter-of-factly.
“Did you quote that from the dictionary?”
“Actually, I paraphrased it from Wikipedia but that’s not the point-”
“Frost-”
“But, it is culturally significant to her-”
“What culture?”
“Nerd culture! She’s a nerd and you’re basically the king of the nerds. And as the king of the nerds, you of all people should understand its significance,” she said with all the confidence she could muster. Harry scoffed and she sighed before continuing.
“Look, every year, no matter what, Caitlin always gets a small pie for herself and celebrates Pi Day. She never tells anyone because most people think it’s silly but it’s something she likes to do. You’re dating her now and I am literally handing you a perfect date idea on a silver platter. Take the freaking platter, Harry.”
“… She really does it every year?” he hesitantly asked.
“Yes.”
“And she would like it if I participated in this event with her?”
“Like it? She’d probably get down on her knees and bl-”
“Frost!”
“Yes, she would love it,” she amended with a roll of her eyes, “Prude.”
He thought on it a moment.
“Cherry or apple?”
“Apple.”
He looked back at his semi-ready workstation for a moment and then looked at the time. It was barely turning 9.
“I’ll need the apartment until 3 but after that, you and Nash can canoodle all you like,” he said as he quickly packed up some of his things, leaving a note for Ramon about the software he was installing. A small smile started to form on his face as he addressed Frost again. “If Snow or anyone else asks where I am just tell them I have errands to run.”
“Okay,” she said with a big smile as she pulled out her phone from her back pocket, “But do me a favor and stop saying that word.”
“Ah, but it’s the word of the day,” he replied simply, his smile growing as ideas started to form in his head.
“Actually, it’s akimbo,” Frost called out as he left the area. She sent a quick text to Nash.
Today is gonna be fun.
