Rome

Summary:

Saiko cannot stand dealing with the crazy friends he and his boyfriend have made - especially Teruhashi - for a moment longer! He just needs a break. So, he comes up with a brilliant idea that will get the two of them away from Japan and the regular disaster that is their life, if only for a little while...

Notes:

I wrote this on a plane flying to Thailand. Enjoy!

Work Text:

Japan… was boring. Now, that seems impossible, and yet that is what Saiko Metori, heir of the wealthiest conglomerate in all of Japan, felt. In fact, he found it extremely boring – and being boring was not something that he, a wealthy and incredible individual, should feel. Being bored was for the commoners and poor folk he was unfortunate to have to attend school with.

Worse yet, Japan was full of people he and his boyfriend Saiki Kusuo knew. That’s right, he scored the most amazing, supernatural, and powerful person n the entire world to be his boyfriend – somehow – and not only was the incredible Kusuo his, but he also agreed with Metori that Teruhashi could be the single most insanely annoying person in the world. For all his wealth and influence, Metori still wasn’t certain how he managed to gain the affections of the most incredible man in the universe. It felt almost impossible, as if Kusuo had been destined to shine brighter than all the rest – and yet the psychic had chosen him.

It was an amazing feeling.

But still, Japan held the annoying limpets that clung to Kusuo and Metori like barnacles to the hull of a ship. They needed an escape. Preferably one that didn’t involve begging Kusuo to teleport them back to that island they’d once been stranded on just so all the gold diggers in their class stopped flinging themselves at his feet pathetically. And also, to get that minx Teruhashi away from his Kusuo.

That cut Japan right out. Every time Metori stepped a foot anywhere in the country, some so-called ‘friend’ of theirs would pop up out of nowhere and intrude on his time. In Osaka, he ran into that weird purple-haired one Kusuo said talked to ghosts, in Hokkaido that squeaky hamster-like girl attached herself to him and sobbed endlessly about Shun and Aren getting together – and then in Okinawa he had to deal with Nendou. The less said about that, the better.

Needless to say, Metori was prepared to do almost anything to get some free time alone with his boyfriend – or at least a few sane people failing that. When he wasn’t spouting fantasies about ‘Jet Black Night Reunion’ or whatever (which he’d been doing less and less since getting with Aren thankfully), Shun was decent company – and Aren was actually enjoyable to be around most of the time! (Plus having an ex-gangster as a friend was very useful for when people tried to kidnap him… it happened surprisingly often.)

So, Metori had a goal: get somewhere where the painful commoners weren’t; and bring Kusuo. And with Japan out, Metori began to consider other places.

America… no, he was still banned on a federal level after that one incident in Hawaii. And he’d already seen all of South-East Asia on his private yacht (a tour that was supposed to be with Kusuo, but Teruhashi invited herself and everyone else on… stupid minx). Australia was preparing for the start of their summer – meaning Metori would likely just spontaneously catch on fire the moment they stepped off the plane. A Safari would’ve been nice – but Kusuo would hate listening to the animals.

And Metori wanted Kusuo to enjoy this vacation too.

However… they did have these linked Germanium rings Metori had had made specially for them, so crowded places were an option. And he had always wanted to see the Colosseum…

So Rome it was! Italy was supposed to be lovely this time of year too, and Rome rarely saw snowfall, even in the winter. It was perfect – he’d decided on the best place to take Kusuo: one task out of the way.

Convincing Kusuo was a slightly more difficult task.

“Why do you want to holiday again?”
“Because our friends are driving me mental. Nowhere in Japan is safe from them! I found Mera scavenging through my trash last week!”
“Uh… right. And why Rome of all places? Why not… Uruguay?”
“Because Rome is one of the greatest cities of all time, and there are hundreds of coffee houses and pâtisseries, and we can—”
“Alright then.”
“See the… wait, did you say yes?” Metori looked over, and saw a small smile on Kusuo’s face, his eyes twinkling in the rare way they did around Metori and Metori alone.
“I did.”
“Yes!” Were they not lying on Metori’s bed, he’d have jumped for joy. As it was, he leaned over and kissed Kusuo on the cheek.

“But – no private jets. And no stupid fancy resorts a million miles from the city. I want to see Rome with you Metori, not stare at it from a hotel.”
“On that, we can agree,” chuckled Metori. “Being in the city is much better. In fact, I have an idea…”

***

This idea of Metori’s began, as it were, with getting Kusuo a passport. This was not so hard, except for the part where the lady behind the counter asked for Kusuo to take out his power limiters.

“No.”
“Please?” Secretly, Metori was ecstatic to hear his boyfriend’s real voice – but he also really just wanted this holiday. In the past week alone he’s almost been electrocuted, drowned, stabbed, deep-fried and set of fire by Nendou. At their school. It shouldn’t have even been possible! The school didn’t even have a pool!
“I’ll buy you coffee jelly,” offered Metori.
“Fine.” Off came the limiters, and then Kusuo was sitting very gingerly and trying his absolute best not to blow up the chair or spontaneously destroy the room or freeze the woman in stone.

He managed – mostly by squeezing Metori’s hand so tight he almost broke a bone. But he managed. With that dealt with, they booked two tickets on the next available flight to Rome – which they didn’t really need, considering Kusuo’s powers and Metori’s wealth.

“It’s all for the plan,” Metori promised. Kusuo just nodded seriously, still grinning slightly. They booked the flights, hotels, even the tours!

And when the time came, the pair dutifully checked in at the airport, walking through the various security systems in place and getting checked into the international flight departure lounge the same as every other person. They hung about in the lounge, Metori buying a commoner’s doughnut box to share with Kusuo as they waited.

When their flight was called, the two turned up at the gate and handed over their passports and boarding passes, wandering down the jet bridge and onto the plane.

But once aboard, the two headed to separate bathrooms, then vanished.

They turned up again to swap flights in Dubai, spending the three-hour layover meandering through the massive, expansive international lounge of the airport before once again vanishing moments after boarding the plane.

As their plane ascended up into the sky, Metori and Kusuo clinked their drinks together in a small but bustling Thai café, grinning as their perfect plan continued to go off without a hitch. Rather than spend hours on a cramped, uncomfortable flight, the pair were instead using Kusuo’s powers to happily laze about in cafes and parks around the world enjoying one another’s company. The stamped flight tickets and passports would ensure they were let into Italy, but Kusuo’s powers negated the need to spend time in an aeroplane when they could be doing anything else.

The pair rejoined their flight right as everyone was disembarking, popping out of an airport terminal bathroom, and inserting themselves into the stream of people heading to the line of customs desks.

Within the hour, the pair were in a private car, watching as the most beautiful sights of Rome passed outside.

“Our hotel is over a gelato shop,” hummed Metori quietly, knowing exactly how Kusuo would respond.
“Really?”
“Yup!” grinned Metori, finally loosening up as the stress of the past month slid off his shoulders. “It’s supposed to be one of the best in the city – and they do a coffee gelato.”

Kusuo could only respond by giving his beloved boyfriend a breathtaking kiss.

Notes:

There was surprisingly little Rome in my story titled 'Rome' - but maybe one day I will actually write a story about Rome itself... it's been a long time since I was there, so I'd need to refresh my memory first.

Thank you for reading!
