“Hey papa?” Izuku looked up from the book he was reading to find his daughter, his beautiful daughter. Blonde hair, dark Jade eyes and her daddy’s cute little nose. Hana was a wild ride for him. The constant fear of her getting hurt and the will to protect her was always in the front of his mind. Call him a helicopter dad but this was his baby.
“Yes, my sweet puddin’ pop.” He smiled as he plopped down the book onto the coffee table with a soft thud and held out his arms to his sweet baby girl. She was the second light of his life, always coming in tie with her papa. Hana ran up to him with a loud squeal and jumped right into his arms.
Hana snuggled into place right up against his chest. She fit perfectly in the crook of his arm, curling up into a small ball. Oh, he was already mourning the days when she was too big for snuggles... or slamming the door saying she hates him. Hopefully, without the explosion. “How did you and daddy meet?” she asked softly. Izuku raised an eyebrow at the question. It was an odd question. Hana loved to know everything about anything, but she’s never asked him or Katsuki about them. Some about their quirks but never about the past.
Izuku laid his cheek against her soft blonde curls. The new shampoo Katsuki got smelled amazing. Crisp honey apples. He let out a small sigh after inhaling the scent to have it forever be stuck in his mind, “We met when we were babies. Grandma and Grammy were best friends, so the minute I was born, I met daddy and daddy was born only three months ahead of me.
“We were best friends from the first sight... and I think I fell in love with daddy that moment too.” Izuku glanced over at the small shadow growing in the hallway. Danger Sense wasn’t going off, so it told him that it was his husband being sneaky. “Daddy was the coolest person I ever met! We played hero and he always knew what to do.”
Hana giggled, “He likes to go booooom!!”
“That’s daddy. Big, loud and explosive.” Izuku laughed, “So, we were friends for forever.” He may have skipped over the part where Katsuki bullied him for ten years but in his mind... Katsuki was always his friend.
The world was crap on both ends. Katsuki was praised while he was trashed. Kids are like sponges, they soak in everything an adult gives out. Izuku was quirkless and that meant weak. Katsuki had an amazing quirk and that meant strong. There was nothing left to be done.
“Daddy was sooooo grumpy as a kid and papa was a little... well, he wanted nothing more than to walk by daddy’s side.”
Hana turned in his lap to face him and looked up at him with sparkling eyes, “What happened next, papa?”
The hero chuckled lightly at her eagerness, “Oh, I’ll get to the good part!” In his eyes they were all good parts but he knew what was wanted. He was more than happy to give it. “It was fireworks day and daddy took me on a very special date.”
Six years earlier...
“Izuku.”
The green haired man looked up to meet the hard crimson eyes. Every time their eyes met, he swore he fell in love all over again. Being roommates made it a whole in level of hard. Katsuki minus a shirt equals a boner... not fun. “Yes, Kachan?”
The blonde shifted awkwardly from foot to foot. Izuku’s lips dipped slightly at the behavior. Katsuki wasn’t one to be nervous. He stuffed his hands deep into the pockets of his baggie jeans and grunted lightly, “I wanna take you somewhere... the two of us.” Izuku tilted his head, waiting for the blonde to get all the words out before interrupting... with a yes. “A date.” He finished with a soft rasp.
“A... date?” He repeated. The words felt just as foreign on his lips as they did Katsuki’s.
“Or fucking not!”
Izuku lashed out black whip on the retreating blonde, “No! I want to go, Kachan! I... I just wanted to make sure for my own sake.” Because if he said it was a date then changed his mind, he’d die of a broken heart.
Katsuki scowled deeply, “I don’t fucking say shit I don’t mean, Izuku! If I want to take you out on a date, then that’s what I want to fucking do!”
“Then I’d love to, Kachan.” He smiled brightly and released black whips hold. To his surprise, Katsuki reached out and gently took his scarred hand in his.
Neither of them spoke as Katsuki led the way to wherever they were going. Izuku was trying to figure out so many things out at once. The top question running through his mind was where were they going? It was already so close to midnight and Katsuki wouldn’t be up this late unless it was important to him. Ground Beta was one of those times... ugh, he really wasn’t in the mood to fight like that again.
“You remember when we were four... before I was a giant prick and bullied you.” Katsuki said quietly to the empty air in front of them. Izuku almost missed the question as he focused on the crunching forest floor and well, trying to guess.
“What time exactly, Kachan?” He smiled up at the taller man, “We had so many good times that year.”
Katsuki let out a small scuff, “The fireworks, nerd. I...” That was two days before he got the title of quirkless. “I didn’t just bully you cause you didn’t have a quirk... I didn’t fucking care, really.” Izuku frowned a little, tilting his head slightly. “Your fucking face as you watched the fireworks light up the sky.
“I fell in love with you that day and just didn’t fucking know it.” Katsuki took a large breath and sank down to one knee. “I want a damn do over. I want to promise you that I’ll fucking do right by you and love you. I’m not fucking proposing. That’s later but my promise to marry you is all wrapped in this too.”
Izuku stared down at his best friend utterly speechless. He almost jumped out of his red high tops when his own fingers touched his parted lips. “K-Kachan...”
The blonde smiled softly up at him, “I love you, Izuku.” Right at that moment, he did jump out of his skin and into the blonde’s lap as loud pops and flashes of color appeared in the dark sky. “If you don’t say yes... it’s gonna be really fucking awkward to tell the idiots.”
Pop! Pop! Pop!
“Yes, Kachan.” He whispered against his chest. “Yes.” Izuku stared up at the sky. Orange and teal fireworks lit up the darkness and painted their faces in lights. Katsuki gently lifted his chin with his finger and tilted his head down, pressing a small kiss to his lips.
His damn heart felt like a firework going off inside. Izuku couldn’t contain his happiness and like a true Midoriya, he burst into tears, clinging tightly to the man he’s loved for many years.
“You see, sweet pea. Daddy likes to show his love and if that means getting Uncle Kiri and Denki to light fireworks in the sky... then he’ll do it.”
Hana giggled, bouncing lightly on his thighs. “That’s why we do fireworks on your anniversary!!”
Izuku chuckled and bopped her on the nose lightly, “You are one smart cookie.”
“Papa loves them, short stack.” Katsuki said when he finally came out of the shadows. Six years of them and more to come.”
“But daddy! Papa always gets scared and sits in your lap!”
Katsuki’s soft gaze fell on him, and a warm smile appeared on his lips, “That’s my favorite. Papa gives me the tightest hugs with each pop and never lets go.”
It may not be how he met Katsuki but that’s how he started his forever with the love of his life.
