Chapter Text

Since Reki had known Langa, maybe he’d always had a crush on him. He didn’t really notice until his fight with Langa when he felt a part of him leave the same time Langa did. When they reunited it was like life had color again. At the end of his beef with Adam when Langa crashed into Reki, he knew he was in love.

Each time they ever interacted after that Reki had to fight back, his face exploding with a blush. Nothing really changed between them but now he was hyper aware of every interaction he had with Langa. Then one day a miracle happened. It was like something out of a movie. One afternoon like any other, Reki and Langa were just sitting together on the park bench watching the sun set. It was like a switch was flicked and the mood had turned romantic, Langa turned to Reki and they just stared at each other for what felt like hours. Reki still remembers the entire moment in detail, the way Langa leaned in, the way he felt his breath quicken. Then they kissed. Under the orange glow of the sun they became an official couple and Reki couldn’t have asked for a better way to get a boyfriend.

But then this is where the problem arises. They haven’t kissed or done anything couple-y since they kissed on that bench. No pet names, no dates, nothing remotely romantic.

Not once.

Even worse it’s like nothing has changed since they got together. He still sat and watched skateboarding tricks with Langa, he still went to S with Langa, it’s like nothing has changed at all.

Now Reki wouldn’t call himself the most romantic person, and while he hasn’t ever had a serious relationship like this, he doubts that nothing would change before people got together and after they got together.

He sighs and stares at the unfinished board in front of him, spinning the half attached wheel. The table is covered with sketches and spare parts. Reki had spent the last hour trying to work on the new commission but hadn’t been able to focus at all, his mind too focused thinking about his boyfriend.

If he could call him that.

His head slams against the desk in frustration, groaning from the pain and the situation.

Is that really all there is to romance?

He looks around his room and spots a romance novel Koyomi lent her. He wasn’t really one for reading novels much less romance but his sister seemed to obsess over it so he borrowed it.

He picked up the book flipping through the chapters. He’d already finished it but he didn’t really see why his sister was so obsessed with it. The main lead was just put in scenarios that constantly had the romantic interest jumping into his arms or have them say cheesy… romantic things to… each other…

“Wait!” Reki yells slamming the book open against his desk.

That’s it!

If he could get Langa into scenarios, then maybe he could finally feel the romantic atmosphere he felt that day on the bench. He quickly takes out a blank paper and slides the romance book under the unfinished board. Smoothing out the wrinkles he grabs a pencil and begins planning.

After a good hour of hitting he’d come up with three (hopefully) fool-proof plans. In the novel, the two characters first meet when the main lead saves the romantic interest by pulling him away from a stray motorcycle. The main lead gets injured when saving him so they walk hand in hand to the hospital. Obviously he wouldn’t try something that dangerous so first he’d try holding Langa’s hand on their way to school, if all goes well he'd be able to have a romantic hand in hand walk to school.

After school he’d invite Langa over to watch a horror movie. In the novel the two main characters end up kidnapped, he’ll have to check up Koyomi’s collection later to make sure she isn’t reading anything too weird, and they end up cuddling for comfort. If he plays his cards right he’d be able to “pretend” to get scared and jump into Langa’s arms. A little cliche he’d admit but if all goes well he’ll be able to stay nice and warm cuddled next to Langa.

At the end before they sleep he’ll find a way to kiss Langa again. He hadn’t been able to figure out a way to set the mood properly and the romance novel was no help. The two characters end up escaping and at the end of the novel just confess their feelings for each other before kissing under the sunset. In the back of his mind Reki notes how his own kiss was eerily similar.

Rejuvenated with a healthy dose of self inflated confidence, he folds up the paper with his plans and stuffs it into his hoodie. He quickly cleans up his work station and heads to bed ready to tackle the next day.
