Work Text:
One: Breakfast
Bobby wholeheartedly believed in the saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A good breakfast can get your day off on the right start and help health and productivity, and on the flip side, a bad breakfast can make you feel a bit more gloomy. Because of this, he went out of his way to make sure he and his boyfriend were well fed every morning.
He took note of even the smallest things. What kind of tea Simon drank every morning, how much honey, lemon, sugar, or milk he wanted in said tea. How dark he liked his toast. How much syrup he liked his pancakes with. From doing this, he also learned that Simon had a huge sweet tooth, another thing he and Bobby had in common.
Bobby would often bring Simon his breakfast, always earning himself a kiss or hug. He and Simon would cuddle on their couch together to eat, sometimes watching something on TV, and sometimes just talking about mundane little things in life.
Bobby liked hearing Simon talk. He liked their little breakfasts together. He liked Simon.
2: Transportation
Neither Bobby nor Simon could drive, so getting to work was more situational. If it was hot, the two might ride a bus together. The bus was air conditioned, a necessity when you live in California. The prosecutors' office was close to the police station, so they could get off at the same stop and then part ways.
If it was the right temperature, they would walk. Some may consider it strange, but they'd also walk in the rain. Bobby brought an umbrella to shield them from catching a cold, but Simon loved to stick his arm out and feel the rain. He couldn't feel the rain in prison, and weirdly enough he found himself missing it. Simon liked the rain. He liked their little morning adventures together. He liked Bobby.
3: Work
Simon often saw Bobby at work. They worked the same cases most of the time, which was especially nice because then they had time to study together at home the night before a trial.
He and Bobby would investigate together. One thing he noticed was Bobby's (hidden) intelligence. When the phantom had acted as Bobby a few months ago, he amplified his personality. Bobby could be a bit clueless at times, but he wasn't a complete idiot like the phantom would have everyone believe. He was very good at investigating crime scenes and putting together clues. It clicked in Simon's mind that the phantom hadn't actually studied criminal justice before, he had just stolen someone else's badge, which explained why he was pretty bad at his job.
Simon also saw Bobby during trials. Bobby, being the lead detective, was often called up to testify. Simon also noticed that at the end of trials, he and an older man with a raggedy green coat would often throw confetti from the gallery. Simon hadn't asked about it, but he found it cute. Bobby really did have the power to cheer anyone up.
Simon liked working with his partner. He liked seeing the smile on his partner's face when he chanted that dumb superhero like mantra or threw confetti from the gallery of a murder trial. He liked Bobby.
4: Birds
Bobby found it so cute, the relationship he had with his bird. Simon cared for Taka more than almost anything. The two were partners in (fighting) crime.
It wasn't until Bobby learned about Simon's tendency to volunteer at an aviary late at night that he realized how much Simon really liked all birds. Simon liked birds with a burning passion. He despised the poultry industry, sending him into a vegetarian rage which Bobby took note of while making his breakfasts. Simon and Klavier also apparently bonded as friends because they were both vegetarian.
Simon's dedication to birds was serious. He knew how to care for birds, facts about birds. He hadn't cried, but once Simon got emotional talking about the Kaua'i ō'ō, a bird species that had gone extinct. It took a lot to make Simon emotional. Sometimes birds would even fly to Simon.
Bobby liked Simon's obsession with birds. He liked watching Simon nerd out (bird out) about the different species and calls of birds. He liked Simon.
5: Cuddles
Simon would never admit this to anyone, but he loved physical affection. He hadn't gotten any in prison, and even before then, his sister was never the nicest to him. Simon was incredibly touch starved, and one of his favorite things to do was.come home from work after a long day and pass out in his boyfriends arms.
Bobby gave the best hugs, and he was glad to give them at any time. Simon and Bobby's physical relationship was composed entirely of hugs, kisses and cuddling. Neither of them were sexually attracted to anything, but they both thought cuddles were better anyways.
Cuddling also helped him sleep a bit better. Hel felt safer in Bobby's arms. He knew nothing bad could happen to him there.
Looking up into his boyfriend's eyes, he could automatically tell him and the phantom apart. Bobby's eyes were bright and full of emotion, while the phantom's had been empty. If you were to put the two in a room together, they'd be easy to tell apart.
Bobby's emotions were so real, too. When he cried, you could tell how sad he truly felt. When he laughed you could her the joy seeping from his voice, even without Athena's hearing.
Simon liked Bobby's big bear hugs. He liked his plethora of emotions. He liked Bobby.
+1: Painting Cafe
When Bobby heard that they were building a new craft cafe in town, he just knew he had to take Simon on a date there.
The premise of the cafe was that you'd sit down and order a drink, and you could buy a dish and some paint while you were there. Then, you'd paint your dish while you finished your drink, so you get a cool customer designed dish and a drink!
Now, Bobby was no Bob Ross. He wasn't the best of painters. But he loved crafting! And he wanted to take his boyfriend on a cool date.
And so, one Saturday during lunch, off to the cafe it was. Simon ordered an early gray tea with milk and a dash of honey. Bobby ordered and orange juice.
While they waited for their drinks, the two started painting. Simon wasn't an experienced painter, but he did know how to make something look decent. He started to do a traditional teacup pattern on his cup.
Bobby, the poor guy, didn't know what to paint. He wanted to paint something meaningful to him, but there were so many things that were meaningful to him. Eventually, he decided on all of them.
Their drinks arrived. They drank and painted, make small talk all the while, until their teacups and drinks were done.
Bobby loved taking Simon on dates. Simon loved listening to Bobby's talking, hearing what he was thinking. They loved each other dearly.
