Sarah Porter had never really meant to fall in love with Abi Borin. She had been delighted, however, when Abi found ways to make them both uncontactable and out of reach for others. They would be allowed to fall in love in peace.
Abi, later, would admit she had done it specifically to keep Sarah safe whilst she rested. They would both come together only when Sarah needed to rest, Abi quick to give her a space to rest and feel safe, often watching her as she slept peacefully. Love, quiet as it was, was something they both needed and they would feel safer together.
