Work Text:
It was raining a lot , a full on thunder storm raging outside, and Reki was totally fine. He was not scared, no way. Even at the sound of a very loud, very close thunder, he did not just shriek in fear.
They were hanging out at Langa's place, sitting side by side on the couch watching the tv, where it played a collection of skating videos from Reki's phone.
Langa seemed to be oblivious to Reki's struggles as he attentively watched the videos. "Ohh, that was so cool! Did you see that, Reki?" Langa quickly shifted his gaze from the tv to Reki, before returning to the screen.
"Yeah… really cool." Reki replied, without really knowing what he was agreeing to. Between having watched the videos already, and worrying about the storm, he hadn't really been paying attention to the tv.
As Langa moved around a bit shifting his position, Reki couldn't help but notice his hand came to rest on the couch in between them. And he really wanted to hold it.
But he shouldn't… right? No, of course not. Don't be stupid, Reki! He held back a groan, letting his head fall back on the cushions.
Reki tried paying attention to the tv for a while, but he couldn't concentrate. He winced at the sound of another thunder, and moved his gaze back to his friend.
As much as his feelings for Langa made him nervous, Reki also found it calming, looking at him. He smiled softly as he saw Langa's eyes shining and his mouth opened in a silent gasp, amazed after watching another cool trick.
Reki swallowed, and started slowly sliding his hand on the couch. He kept going until their fingers almost touched. He swallowed again, and sat up straight.
He kept his hand there, not daring to move it in any direction. But if Langa moved his hand… Goddamn it, I'm so pathetic .
Just as Reki was about to pull his hand away, everything suddenly went dark as the power went out.
"Fuck!" Reki cursed, and practically jumped on Langa, grabbing his arm and clinging to his side.
"It's okay, Reki." Langa said, placing a hand on his arm. "Oh, you're shaking… what's wrong?"
"N-Nothing!" Reki lied, his trembling voice and body betraying him.
"Are you afraid of the dark?"
"N-No!"
"Right." Langa chuckled. "What about ghosts?"
"S-Shut up, man!" Reki whined into his shoulder.
"Sorry." Langa laughed. "Why don't you turn on the lantern on your phone?"
"Battery is low…"
"Let me get mine, then."
"Oh, s-sorry!" Reki quickly let go of him, and scooted back a bit.
Langa reached for his phone on the table in front of them, turned on the lantern and put it back down, with the light towards the ceiling.
"Don't apologize, Reki. It's okay." Langa said as he sat closer. "You can hold me if you're scared." He said with a smirk.
"Shut up." Reki looked away, hoping his blush wasn't noticeable in the dim lights. He really wanted to hold onto Langa again, but he shouldn't. He knew his friend was just teasing him, probably… right? Ughh stop this!
How the fuck am I gonna survive this night? Reki let out a groan with that thought.
"Don't worry, Reki. I'll protect you from the ghosts."
"Stupid." Reki laughed, lightly shoving him. "Man, I'm so bored already! What are we gonna do now?"
I can think of a few things we could do… Langa thought with a sigh, then immediately reprimanded himself. No, bad Langa! Stop those thoughts right now!
Langa wanted Reki to hold him again so badly , but he obviously didn't take Langa's offer seriously. I need to be more direct…
Langa could almost feel Reki's shivers as he moved a bit closer. Maybe I could just hug him myself. No, he would think that's weird… right? Ugh this sucks
They both needed a distraction, Langa decided. "I'm hungry." He said, as he stood up.
"Of course you are." Reki chuckled. "How are you gonna find anything in the dark?"
"Don't underestimate me." Langa answered from the kitchen.
He returned to the couch, threw a couple of bags of chips and a package of cookies there, and went back to the kitchen.
"It's like a super power, man." Reki laughed.
"Hm, yeah I like that as a super power." Langa said as he sat down again, after placing two cans of soda on the table. "What about you?" He asked as he crossed his legs and turned to his side, facing Reki.
"Me what?" Reki turned to him as well, adjusting the blanket he had on his legs.
"If you could have a super power, what would you want?"
"Oh, um…" Reki thought about it for a moment. "I think… mind reading, maybe? Just to know what people are thinking, about specific things, you know? How they feel." He looked down as he answered, fidgeting with the bag of chips in his hand, before finally opening it.
"Yeah… I know what you mean. It'd be a good power."
"Hey, don't go stealing mine! You already have yours."
Langa laughed. "But you know… you could just ask, if you wanna know someone's thoughts about something specific."
"What if I'm afraid of the answer?"
"Right…"
There was a moment of silence before Reki cleared his throat, and started rambling about a random subject.
Some time passed as they finished the snacks. Reki had been bouncing his legs for a while, and then he suddenly grabbed his phone, turned on the lantern and bolted to the bathroom.
Langa laughed, and yelled at him. "Don't forget to wash your hands!"
Reki yelled back, "Fuck you!" As he entered and closed the door, causing Langa to laugh even harder.
Langa went in after Reki left, and Reki said to him, "I hope you miss." On his way back to the couch.
Langa gaped. "That's mean." He replied, to which Reki laughed.
Once they both settled on the couch again, Reki checked the time on his phone. "Ugh, it's still so early."
"You're spending the night, right?"
"Well, yeah… there's no way I'm leaving in this storm. Sorry man, you're stuck with me." Reki let out an awkward laugh as he scratched the back of his head.
"Hey, I would want you to stay anyway, so it's okay." Langa said with a soft smile.
"Okay… good." Reki smiled.
They stared at each other for a moment, not really sure of what to do next.
"Um, aren't you cold?" Reki suddenly asked.
"Not rea- um, actually yeah… a little bit."
Reki rearranged his blanket and, pulling a part of it out of his lap, he held it up as he looked at Langa.
Langa smiled softly and scooted closer, letting Reki put the blanket over his legs. "Thanks." He said, as he settled in place.
"Why are you thanking me? It's your blanket, man."
"I'm polite?"
Reki laughed. "Okay. Well, you're welcome." He smirked, and lightly shoved him. "See? I'm polite too."
"Shut up." Langa shoved him back with a laugh.
"Now what?"
Langa shrugged.
"Ugh, this sucks." Reki pulled his legs up to his chest, letting his hands fall to the couch on either side of him. He let his head fall back on the cushions with a sigh, and closed his eyes for a moment.
He felt Langa moving beside him, so he turned his head to the side and opened his eyes to find Langa resting his head on the cushions very close to him.
Fuck, he's so beautiful…
Reki looked back at the ceiling, and for a while they both stayed quiet, just listening to the rain still pouring heavily outside. At least the thunder had stopped.
Out of the corner of his eyes, Reki saw Langa sliding his hand and stopping right next to his on the couch. Oh my god, is he…? No, no way
Reki swallowed, and dared to move his fingers just a bit. Ugh but what if this doesn't mean anything? What if he thinks I'm being weird?
Before Reki could overthink any further, Langa called to him.
"Hey, Reki?"
"Y-Yeah?" Reki turned to him as he replied, but Langa wasn't looking at him. He had his head down, and Reki noticed he was looking at their hands.
He held his breath in anticipation when Langa slowly moved his hand, then released a shaky breath as he felt featherlight fingers tracing the back of his hand.
Reki's heart started beating really fast. Oh my god oh my god oh my god what is happening.
"Reki…" Langa called his name again, in a low, soft voice. He looked up and stared right into Reki's eyes as he closed his hand around the other's. "Is… is this okay?"
"Yeah." Reki breathed out. He shifted to the side and turned his palm up, intertwining their fingers. He opened a big grin as Langa squeezed his hand.
"I've wanted to do this for so long." Langa confessed.
"Hold my hand?" Reki asked with a shy smile.
Langa nodded. "Well, not just that, but… yeah."
"Not just… o-okay. So," Reki paused for a moment. He wasn't fully convinced that he hadn't fallen asleep on the couch and was dreaming right now. He took a deep breath, preparing himself for what he was gonna say next. "So, um, what else… have you been wanting to do?" Oh my god I can't believe I actually asked that!
There was a faint blush on Langa's cheeks as he moved closer, barely noticeable in the dim lights. "Is it really okay, Reki?"
"It's more than okay, Langa." Reki answered with a soft smile. "I promise."
"Okay… so, um… I wanna hold your hand. But you already know that."
"Yeah." Reki giggled.
"And, um…" Langa moved his free hand to Reki's hair. "I want to run my fingers through your hair." He said, while doing exactly that. Then he slowly slid his hand down Reki's back, feeling him shiver beneath his fingers. "I wanna hold you." He said, stopping his hand on his lower back.
Reki took a deep, steadying breath to calm down his fast beating heart. He was feeling overwhelmed, but in the best possible way.
Langa continued, sliding his hand up Reki's chest and stopping close to his heart. "I want… to take you out on a date."
"A date? Really? But we go out all the time."
"It's not the same, Reki." Langa frowned. "I wanna dress up, go somewhere different. Cool and fun, some place you'd love. And maybe, hopefully… you would fall in love with me." He whispered the last part.
"Langa." Reki let out a teary laugh. "You don't need to do anything for that to happen… I've been in love with you for a long time."
"Wait, you have? Really?"
"Yeah, really!"
Langa had the biggest smile Reki had ever seen at that moment.
"So…" Reki cleared his throat and diverted his gaze as he said, "Is there… more? That, um… that you wanna do, I mean."
Langa didn't reply right away. He sat up a little straighter, and tugged Reki's hand for him to do the same. He moved a hand to Reki's face, fingers going to his hair as he gently caressed his cheek with his thumb.
Reki took a deep breath in anticipation as Langa leaned in, touching their foreheads.
"I really, really want to kiss you, Reki." Langa whispered with a shaky voice.
And Reki, probably for the first time in his life, didn't overthink at all. He closed the small space between them, and pressed his lips onto Langa's.
They parted shortly after, with big smiles on their faces.
"Can we… again?" Langa asked.
Reki barely nodded, and Langa was already kissing him again. He laughed into the kiss from Langa's enthusiasm.
Langa let go of his hand in favor of using both to gently hold his face. "Oh! Me too, by the way." He suddenly broke the kiss to say. "I love you too."
Reki smiled. "When I woke up today, I couldn't have imagined this is how the day would end. I love you."
Langa gave him a quick kiss on the corner of his mouth, before nuzzling his cheek. "It's not over yet."
"Hm? What?"
"The day. It hasn't ended yet."
"Oh yeah?" Reki said with a playful smile. "What do you have in mind, then?"
With a mischievous grin, Langa gave him a quick kiss. "Kisses." He answered. "Lots and lots of kisses."
"Okay." Reki said against his lips, before pulling him into a deep kiss.
