Stay Awake

Summary:

A mission turns into an ambush leading to Sabo getting hurt.

Work Text:

It was meant to be a simple mission. Get in, get the information we needed, and get out. We didn’t know it would turn into an ambush. As soon as we got inside we were swarmed with Marines.

All of us were able to make it out but, as we ran, I noticed Sabo wasn’t next to me. I looked over my shoulder and saw him on his knees. At first I thought he had tripped.

“Sabo, let’s go!” I said.

He looked up at me before fully collapsing to the ground. I yelled to the other commanders for help before rushing over to him.

I rolled him onto his back and that’s when I saw it. The fresh blood stain forming on his shirt. I lifted it to assess the wound only to find that it was worse than I thought.

“It’s bad, isn’t it?” Sabo asked.

“You’re gonna be fine,” I said as I took off my jacket to use to try to stop the bleeding. He flinched when I added pressure.

“Y-you should go with the others,” Sabo said.

“I’m not leaving you here,” I said. “Everything will be alright. I just need you to stay awake, okay?”

“Why does dying make you so tired?” Sabo asked, eyes half shut.

“Don’t talk like that,” I said, tears forming in the corners of my eyes. “You can’t give up on me. Not now. Not after everything we’ve been through.”

“(y/n)...” Sabo said.

“Please…don’t leave me…” I said.

His eyes closed just as the other commanders got to us.

2 days later

I woke up to someone poking at my arm.

“Morning,” Sabo said quietly.

“You’re awake,” I said, relief washing over me. “How are you feeling? Do you need anything?”

“I’ll be okay and right now all I need is you,” Sabo said. “Come here.”

I layed down next to him in bed.

“Now, I’m sorry about all this,” Sabo said.

“What are you apologizing for?” I asked.

“I should’ve been more careful,” Sabo said. “If I was you wouldn’t have had to go through all this.”

“None of that matters now,” I said. “All I care about is that you’re going to be fine.”

I kissed him on the forehead.

“I should go let Dragon know you’re up,” I said.

“In a few minutes,” Sabo said. “I want to spend a little more time with you.”

“Whatever you want,” I said with a smile.
