Work Text:
I had a few hours of downtime and the weather was nice. I found a comfortable place on deck to sit while I read my new book. I got about 50 pages in before I was interrupted.
“Mind if I join you?” Borsalino asked.
“Not at all,” I said.
“It’s nice to finally have some nice weather,” Borsalino said as he sat down next to me.
“It’s great,” I said. “I was getting tired of the rain.”
“So, I wouldn’t have expected you to be a romance reader,” Borsalino said.
“Oh, I’m usually not but Tashigi recommended it so I figured I'd give it a try,” I said.
“Do you like it?” Borsalino asked.
“I’m not sure yet,” I said. “I’m not that far into it yet but I have the feeling it’s going to have that love at first sight trope which will ruin it a bit.”
“But it’s a romance book. How would that ruin it?” Borsalino asked.
“It’s not realistic,” I said. “I know it’s fiction, but I like a bit of realism and love at first sight just doesn’t exist.”
“If it doesn’t exist then how else do I describe how I felt when I first saw you, hm?” Borsalino asked.
My eyes widened and I felt my face get hot.
“Wait, y-you love me?” I asked.
“Apparently not, according to you,” Borsalino said.
“But, I…I…” I stammered. “That’s not fair.”
He chuckled.
“Would you like to get dinner tomorrow night?” Borsalino asked.
“Yeah, I would,” I said.
“Then for now I’ll leave you to your book,” Borsalino said before walking off.
I tried going back to reading, but all I could think about was tomorrow night's date.
