Work Text:

Logan had been looking forward to celebrating the 4th of July with Oscar for weeks. They had planned to watch the fireworks together and enjoy a barbecue with Logan's friends and family at his childhood home in Florida. It was a time at when the pair of them could escape the tightly controlled world of F1 and be themselves enjoying each others company.

However, Oscar had called him the other day to say that he couldn't make it because of a sponsor wanted him to promote their products. He had tried to convince Oscar not to go but the Aussie had to refuse his boyfriends request as much as he hated to do so. And that's how Logan had ended up distancing himself from the ongoing party wishing Oscar was here with him.

The American had tried to put on a brave face and enjoy the day, but he couldn't shake off his disappointment. Out of all the days a sponsor could want Oscar they happened to choose the one which they were busy, sometimes he thought the world was out to get him.

His day started off miserable knowing he'd have to spend the whole time without his boyfriend, slowly disconnecting from what was occurring around him which raised heads, especially from his family. He didn't join in with the board games at lunch or intermingle with relatives he hadn't seen for ages. They were usually one of his favourite parts about Independence Day, but they just weren't the same without Oscar.

As the day wore on the American's mood grew progressively worse. Oscar hadn't texted him which was odd, he wasn't the best at time zones but thought that Oscar would be awake. He began to find himself feeling irritable and ready to snap at someone, that someone just happened to be Dalton.

"Sup buddy, you've been quiet lately" Dalton asked sitting down alongside his brother.

"Go away" He asked.

"See whats up? Your never like this usually" Dalton replied putting an arm around Logan who wiggled away from it.

"Nothings up, just leave me be" the younger pleaded again.

"Is it because Osci-boo isn't here with you" He teased. Logan didn't know what happened to him at that moment except that it set alight a blaze of emotions inside him. He stood up with a jump and began shouting, drawing attention to himself.

"Don't bring him into this, go find someone else to harass Dalton!"

Logan aggressively stormed off into the house and upstairs to his childhood bedroom. He locked the door when he was inside and slid down to the floor, pulling his knees up to his chest breaking down into a pool of tears. It only just occurred to him that he'd probably ruined the celebration for everyone all because of his stupid immature actions.

He looked up at the decorations in his room, eyes settling on a picture of him and Oscar as kids slightly muddled due to the tears lingering in his eyes. "How much easier it was back then" he thought. Next to it was a more recent picture of the pair sitting on the Melbourne beach before the Grand Prix, Oscar's soft lips on his own. All Logan wanted was for the Aussie to be here with him, to share more everlasting moments on what was suppose to be a special day.

Logan didn't know how long it had been since he retreated to his room, lost in a world of thoughts which he was brought out of at a sudden knocking sound on the door.

"Logan it's me, i wanted to apologise". He knew it would be Dalton before he spoke, who else wanted to speak to him after today. "I didn't mean to upset you the way that i did, can i come in?" he continued.

As reluctant as he was, Logan knew he had to let Dalton in and make amends, even if it didn't make him feel any better afterwards. Slowly he raised himself up, reached out and twisted the lock to open the door to his brother looking back at him with a worried look. They both moved backwards taking a seat on Logan's bed, Dalton didn't speak but instead pulled Logan into an embracing hug.

"You don't need to apologise, its me that's caused the issues today. Don't blame yourself" The younger started. "I'm just annoyed is all".

"You sure?" Dalton asked.

"Yeah. I'll get going soon."

"You not staying for the fireworks?"

"No, I've already ruined everyone else's day so its best if i go". As much as he wanted to stay Logan knew that it would only make his mood even worse not having Oscar with him and so he opted to leave the fireworks display for another time.

He made his way to the front door and as he was about to open it a familiar figure emerged.

Oscar?

At first he thought it was a mirage until said figure hugged him tightly and kissed his lips. It was him, thoughts were running through his mind. "Wasn't he suppose to be in Europe?" "How did he get here so quickly?" "Why wasn't he at the sponsor event?" Those could be saved for later, right now he was ecstatic with joy.

"Surprise! I couldn't let you spend the 4th of July without me," Oscar said with a warm smile. Logan was lost for words, he really could not believe that Oscar was actually here with him in his arms. "You okay, seem quite?" Oscar asked.

"He's alright. Just had a busy day that's all" Dalton replied from behind him. Logan was happy for his brother covering for him.

They pulled apart from their embrace with Logan pulling Oscar towards the garden nodding at his brother on the way out. The pair took a seat on the grass in preparation for the fireworks ceremony, but Logan's mind was still racing with questions about how Oscar made it in time.

"I asked Zak to reschedule the sponsor event".

Did he say that out loud?

"That's why i didn't message you because i was on the plane over here" Oscar stated. Now it was all adding up in the American's head, Oscar got out of the event and came to surprise him. It warmed his heart thinking about it.

Prior to the chance of Logan asking more questions the first pop of fireworks lit up up the night, they watched in awe as the sky illuminated above them. It was a magical moment made even better when the Aussie captivated the others lips in his own with methodical grace. Time slowed around them as Logan felt happier than he had all day, now in the gravity field of Oscar's aurora.

In that moment Logan felt grateful for having Oscar in his life, someone so sweet and caring that nothing could split them apart. And as the night drew to a close, Logan rested his head on Oscar's chest as the latter ran his hand through the blonde's hair, the motion causing Logan to fall asleep as bright flashes of colour filled the sky, nothing on his mind except him and Oscar's deep love for each other.

Notes:

So that's that, first time writing Dalton so I hope I did good. Originally I was planning on releasing a 2nd part to the Logibear fic but this came into my mind. That piece is slowly making progress (again me and time are two ends of the same magnet). All in all I hope you all enjoyed even if it is 4 days overdue and its 2am for me right now. As always kudos and comments are welcomed :)
