how doth the darling snigglette

snigglette wants to leave the show / but can she? well, we do not know.

Work Text:

how doth the darling snigglette improve her shining wings, [snigglette, halfway in costume with her wig cap and mic showing, puts on a hummingbird wing like a sweater sleeve.]

(2) and fluff her tulle and flit and fret before the time she sings! [snigglette's costume from the waist down: her eye-button shirt, a swishy tulle skirt with eyes, dark leggings, frilly socks, and sneakers with large bows. her knees knock together.]

(3) how snazzily she cries, although how snoozly cracks her voice! [snigglette from the waist up, in full costume, singing as she cries. the eyes on the tips of her antennae stare down at her.]

(4) and says she wants to leave the show — [snigglotts stares with large, blank eyes. his costume is similar to snigglette's, but the stickers on his shirt are all black and he wears a feathered half-cape.]

(5) as if she has a choice! [an extreme close-up of snigglette's terrified eyes, in a more realistic style than the rest of the poem.]

Notes:

I wrote this in between writing another, more nonsensical sniggly poem (consider then the snigglette). Inspired by How Doth the Little Crocodile by Lewis Carroll, which was inspired by Against Idleness and Mischief by Isaac Watts. First posted on Instagram in June 2022.

The illustrations were done with a dip pen and a brush in india ink on watercolour paper and scanned with my phone; the type was set in Canva.
