Work Text:
TALKING IT OUT
You had done everything you could to get a transfer to another battalion, but no matter how hard you tried Commander Wolffe just wouldn’t budge.
Things between the two of you were still tense, and it made working with the 104th strained for you.
Wolffe’s attitude towards you had changed significantly in the weeks following your confrontation in the hallway.
Ater you had run from him that night you had commed Cody immediately to tell him what had happened.
He wasn’t angry with you, but he was quite frustrated and upset with his vod and the problem he had caused.
Cody knew of you still struggled with your feelings for the 104th Commander, but he also knew of your feelings for him.
You had put all of your devotion into your relationship with the Marshall Commander and you knew you truly loved him.
The two of you commed each other as much as you could no matter how difficult it could sometimes be.
Cody also devoted as much of his time with you when your leaves lined up. One day you had walked in on Wolffe talking to Cody about you and when you asked Cody about it later,
he was honest and open about it. Saying Wolffe was struggling as well and the two of them needed to work things out as well.
Cody had encouraged you to try and talk with Wolffe, but your anxiety made you avoid him as much as possible.
Today though that would change whether you liked it or not. The Commander had hunted you down in your quarters,
a place you couldn’t get away from him as easily. It seemed that Wolffe had grown tired of the waiting game and finally came to you instead.
You had just ended your comm call with Cody when the sound of a knock at your door thundered through your room.
Frozen with anxiety at first, you forced yourself to the door to answer.
And there stood the one man you had tried to avoid on the other side, a sad and pleading expression in his eyes.
“Commander, what brings you here?”
your voice came out barely above a whisper, your body full of nervous energy.
“Mesh’la, could we please talk?”
You went to sit on your bed with him following to sit in the chair across from you.
“What is there to talk about? You hurt me deeply Commander. I’m sorry I fell in love with you, but it was so hard not too”
“Please look at me”
you glanced up at his face and could see the emotion welling in his eyes, it took your breath away.
“Cyare, if anyone should be apologizing it should be me. And I don’t even know where to begin with this.
I do no that no apology can ever be enough for what I said and did you you”
You felt tears welling in your eyes and your throat get tight.
“I admit that once I realized my feelings for you, I got scared. I was made to be expendable; I didn’t want to break your heart with my death.
Then you got hurt and I was so terrified of losing you that I panicked. I regret everything I said to you that day and for pushing you away.”
A sob suddenly tore through your throat at his admission, and Wolffe was quick to gather you in his arms and sit you in his lap.
As you sobbed, he rubbed your back and whispered apologies into your hair, when he kissed your forehead, you couldn’t help but sob harder.
It felt like hours before you were finally able to calm down, and the both of you sat in silence afraid to even speak. You had missed him so much.
“Cyare, I know we can probably never be together, but I would like to try and be friends with you at the least.
I would never want to come between you and Cody.”
“It would be nice to talk to you again, I’ve really missed you Wolffe.”
he hugged you tighter to his chest at your admission.
“I’ve missed you as well Cyare.”
You pulled away from him just enough to look at him and give him a week smile.
“Our leave lines up with the 212th next. Maybe you, me, and Cody can all sit down together and talk”
He hummed in agreement.
“Might be a good idea”
Wolffe kisses your forehead again and you feel the familiar warmth bloom in your chest once again.
“Never forget I love you Cyare.”
Things might just work out after all.
A new beginning as they say.
