Artificer woke up, she was so excited. Today was her day, She got ready, ate and went out of the shelter. She practically ran to the venue, she was so excited, not a single scavenger in sight.
She almost didn’t notice that the ground was covered in beautiful flowers… she picked one “perfect,” she thought.
She made it at last, she wasn’t early, but she wasn't late, relief rushed through her body and she looked around at the scene before her.
There were nine slugcats in the venue: a white one sat next to a yellow one, they seemed to be siblings, a beige one who was a bit fat, a blue one with frills, her heart melted when she saw those big eyes, a purple one with no mouth, a black one who seemed a bit zoned out, another black one with red lips, a green fluffy one and finally, a red one, a scar across her right eye.
Artificer was so excited.
She when up to the altar, and they said their vows.
“You may now kiss the bride.” the green one said, and they both leaned in, eyes closed.
And then she woke up… disappointed, sad and mostly… confused…
It was the first time in about a hundred cycles that she hadn’t had the nightmare with the scavenger… but who were all those people? especially the blue one and the red one, the image of those two stayed in her mind.
She started to step out of the oddly yellow shelter. She had a splitting headache.
Outside was beautiful, golden flowers lined the ground, and the sky was a deep blue.
She stared in disbelief… it was, so much at once…
Then she heard two voices. Voices she remembered all too well… “Mom!” they yelled, it wasn’t in fear. She choked back tears when she felt the pups hug her. she hugged her children once again.
She looked up… and saw a red slugcat with a scar across her right eye…
She looked just as shocked as Arti was.
