Work Text:

In a relationship that had endured for six years, Scaramouche's unfaithfulness shattered the foundation of their love. As Kazuha faced the painful truth, he stood on the edge of confronting the betrayal that threatened to tear them apart.
"Hey, I need to step out for a bit. I have to meet someone," Scaramouche uttered softly, though his eyes bore a piercing intensity. His words hung heavy in the air, a stark reminder that the love Kazuha offered him was deemed inadequate. Kazuha, burdened with the painful knowledge, felt his heart fracture beneath the crushing weight of those simple words, realizing that he was simply not enough for Scaramouche.
"Sure, go ahead and have fun," Kazuha's voice dripped with weariness and resignation. The endless heartache had taken its toll on him. Waking up alone, he faced the harsh reality that he would never again feel the comforting touch of Scaramouche against his skin. Kazuha understood all too well that he could never measure up, that he would never be enough.
"You really don't give a damn, huh?" Scaramouche spun around to meet Kazuha's gaze, his eyes glimmering with surprise as they landed upon his boyfriend's expression. "You couldn't care less about where I'm headed or who I'm with?" Scaramouche's voice returned to its softness, but a smugness seeped through, as if he were mocking Kazuha, a cruel reminder of the torment he had put him through over the years.
"I'm well aware that I'm not enough, Scara," Kazuha murmured, his voice filled with sorrow and devoid of any remaining fragments of emotion. "Just say the words, tell me you don't love me, so I can finally accept the painful truth." His words hung heavy in the air, a definitive statement, an irrefutable fact that echoed the depths of Kazuha's soul.
His smile slowly faded, replaced by a pained frown as his heart sank deeper within his chest. The weight of hurting Kazuha became unbearable for Scaramouche. He knew deep down that Kazuha deserved far better than the pain he had inflicted upon him.
Summoning his courage, Scaramouche took a deep breath and stepped forward. Gently, he placed his hand on Kazuha's cheek, turning his face to meet his own. Their eyes locked, Scaramouche peering into Kazuha's lifeless, empty stare.
"You are more than enough," he whispered quietly, his voice laced with sincerity. "You are everything I could ever hope for. It's me who falls short, who isn't enough for someone as remarkable as you."
"I know it's all a lie, Scara. We both know about your infidelity," Kazuha spoke, his voice heavy with resignation. "I understand that I'm not enough. I'm sorry for not meeting your expectations. To save you from any more pain, I'll go beyond just breaking up. I'll end my life so you can be with them without any burden."
The words hung in the air, carrying the weight of Kazuha's despair and his belief that sacrificing himself was the only solution to relieve Scaramouche from the suffering their relationship had caused.
A heavy silence settled between them, suffocating the room with its weight. Kazuha's words echoed in Scaramouche's ears, causing his heart to lurch with shock. He was left speechless, unable to find the right words to counter the desperate thoughts swirling in Kazuha's mind.
"No, please..." Scaramouche managed to choke out, his voice filled with a mix of fear and urgency. Witnessing Kazuha's deep despair, he realized the extent of the pain that had driven him to such drastic thoughts.
Kazuha swung the door open, his steps determined as he made his way towards the train station just five minutes away from Scaramouche's apartment. "It's for his own good," Kazuha muttered to himself, conviction lacing his words.
"Wait!" Scaramouche called out, his voice filled with urgency, as he sprinted towards Kazuha, his hand reaching out to tightly grasp his arm. "There are other options, please," he pleaded desperately, hoping to make Kazuha pause and reconsider. He couldn't bear to let him go through with this. His love for Kazuha was too strong to simply stand by and watch it end like this, and he knew deep down that Kazuha cared about him too.
"We can find a way through this together," Scaramouche promised, his voice filled with sincerity. "You don't have to take such drastic measures. Let's face it head-on and find a solution."
With a heavy heart, Kazuha gently pushed him away, a mixture of determination and sorrow etched on his face. As the rustling sound of the train came closer, he reached into his pocket to grasp their matching key rings one last time.
The approaching train grew louder, its presence an undeniable reality. As the moment hung in the air, Kazuha turned to face Scaramouche, a glimmer of sadness in his eyes. He whispered the words that carried the weight of eternity, his voice trembling with pain.
"Goodbye, Scara. I'll love you forever." With those final words, Kazuha stepped onto the train tracks, the metal of the key ring clinking against the steel, and the plastic heart embedded with Scaramouche's name crushed, mirroring the crushing weight on his soul and bones, beneath the strong wheels of the train.
"No!" Scaramouche's anguished scream ripped through the air, a desperate plea to halt Kazuha's irreversible decision. But his cries fell on deaf ears, echoing futilely as he stood frozen in horror, unable to stop the unfolding tragedy.
As Kazuha's figure grew smaller in the distance, carried away by the relentless speed of the departing train, Scaramouche was left hollow and shattered. His voice was silenced, his body paralyzed, as he stared at the tracks with eyes devoid of life and a heart drained of all meaning. The weight of guilt bore heavily upon him, for he knew he was the catalyst for Kazuha's downfall, and he would bear the burden of that responsibility for the remainder of his existence.
Kazuha's body contorted in a horrifying manner, its unnatural form then going limp. It was done, and now Scara could move on with his new lover, free from the burden of Kazuha. After all, he wasn't enough, and this brutal reality pierced Kazuha‘s heart with a pain far greater than any broken bone.
Scaramouche struggled to breathe, tears blurring his vision as he confronted the unbearable truth. The weight of his actions crushed him, knowing he could never bring Kazuha back. Collapsing to his knees, he sobbed uncontrollably, drowning in memories of their past. His heart shattered, his future emptied, leaving him lost in an endless void. Yet, he had no choice but to carry the guilt and keep breathing, despite the irreparable damage he had caused.
His phone rang, the sound piercing through the haze of his grief. It was his new lover, his newfound source of affection.
"Hey, my love! Weren't you coming over? I miss you!" the voice on the other end of the line exclaimed, unaware of the tragedy that had just unfolded.
Scaramouche reluctantly answered the phone, struggling to hold back his overwhelming emotions. "Hi," he managed to whisper, his voice breaking, tears welling up. He faced the cruel reality of his loss, unsure of how to be strong or find the courage to move forward. Unprepared for such a sudden upheaval, he felt lost and helpless. Yet, he knew he had no choice but to find a way to carry on.
Scaramouche's gaze fell upon the remnants of their once cherished key rings. Among the wreckage, a battered heart remained, bearing the names "Scaramouche" and "Kazuha." It was a solemn reminder of all that he had lost, the only tangible connection he had left to his beloved Kazuha.
"Hey, are you still there, love?" his new partner asked, their voice brimming with warmth and oblivious to the upheaval that had just occurred.
"Yeah, I'm here," he muttered, mustering a feeble smile in a desperate bid to mask his grief and sorrow. He knew he had to hold himself together, even though the mere thought felt as futile as trying to fill an empty bucket with water.
"I miss you too," he added, forcing another smile as his gaze drifted to the plastic heart in his hand. It was the sole remnant of his past love, and he resolved to make it work, to find solace in what little remained.
"Okay, love you! See you soon!" responded his new partner, unaware of the pain concealed behind Scaramouche's strained smile.
"Love you too," he whispered, his voice barely audible, before bringing the call to an end. A heavy sigh escaped his lips as he wiped away his tears, clearing his throat in an effort to regain composure. With deliberate slowness, he rose to his feet, determined to gather the shattered fragments of his life and move forward.
Deep down, Scaramouche knew that Kazuha would have wanted him to find happiness again, even if it meant doing so without him. And so, step by step, he began to walk away from the lifeless body and the remnants of his old existence, embracing the uncertain path ahead.
As he walked away, echoes of Kazuha's laughter reverberated in his ears. The sound of his gentle voice and the warmth of his comforting smile flashed vividly in Scaramouche's mind, etching indelible memories into his very being.
A sharp pang of heartache pierced through his chest, flooding his mind with memories of the beautiful moments they had shared. A wave of grief washed over him as he confronted the painful truth that those times were now irretrievable. The realization that he would never witness Kazuha's smile or hear his infectious laughter again tore at his soul.
The absence of their tender embraces, the absence of the sweet words and stolen kisses, settled like a heavy weight upon his heart. The realization that he would never have Kazuha by his side again threatened to unravel him completely. Yet, through the tears that threatened to spill, he resolved to stay strong, for the love they once shared and for the memory of Kazuha.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and then slowly opened them. A new day dawned, signaling the beginning of a new life—a life without Kazuha.
It wouldn't be easy, and he would never forget the pain he had caused him. However, he knew deep down that Kazuha would have wanted him to find happiness. He would carry the guilt and pain for the rest of his days, but he was determined to honor Kazuha's memory and keep him forever close to his heart.
Glancing down at the plastic heart, Scaramouche felt a surge of determination. It was time to embrace the future and leave the past behind. He was ready to move on.
Clutching the plastic heart tightly in his fist, it became a powerful symbol of his enduring love for Kazuha and the indelible past they shared. Every curve and mark on it served as a reminder of the beautiful moments they had cherished together, memories that would forever be etched in his soul.
Kazuha would never be forgotten; that much he knew with unwavering certainty. Although they were physically separated, his presence would live on in Scaramouche's heart, accompanying him wherever he ventured.
With determination in his eyes, he resolved to keep moving forward, for he understood that it was what Kazuha would have desired. He became the driving force that propelled him through each day, their love serving as his guiding light, reminding him of the strength within himself to endure and survive.
