"I gotta go pick up your medication in about 30 minutes" Darius informed Hunter, who just hummed in acknowledgment as he scrolled through Penstagram. His eyes darted to the time in the top left corner of his screen- Thirty minutes was kinda close to when he had to leave for school, but he trusted that Darius would be back on time to bring him there. Even if not, he was sure Willow or Gus could come pick him up.
Thirty minutes passed and, true to his word, Darius was fully changed and ready to go. "Come on, Hunter" he said, gesturing towards the door. Hunter raised an eyebrow. "Let's go"
"Where are we going?"
"To school" Darius said, chuckling slightly. He was sure this must have been some weird joke the kid was pulling on him. He only then noticed that Hunter wasn't in his Hexside uniform. "Where's your uniform, Hunter?"
"I was going to change while you were out getting my medication" Hunter explained, though a pit was beginning to form in his stomach. Darius sighed and the pit grew bigger.
"I told you we were leaving in thirty minutes!" he growled. "I'm gonna be late picking up your meds if we don't... I'll just come back for you. You're probably gonna be late to school"
With that, he was gone, slamming the door behind him, and Hunter wanted to cry.
He didn't, though. No, he did what he was best at and bottled those emotions deep inside, quickly springing into action and getting ready for school. When he was done, he just went outside and waited for Darius.
Darius returned soon enough and set the medication on the porch as Hunter silently got onto the back of his staff. Darius had calmed down and mostly forgotten about the earlier incident, but Hunter certainly hadn't.
"Why are you so quiet?" Darius asked, more concerned than anything, as he sat on the front of his staff, ready to bring his son to another day at school.
"You are already mad at me" Hunter explained cautiously. "I don't want to say the wrong thing and make you more mad at me"
"I'm not mad at you" Darius said, a bit confused. Hunter looked up at him, examining his features for any hint of deceit.
"You got mad at me earlier" Hunter reminded. Darius sighed.
"That was unfair of me" he admitted. "I'm sorry, Hunter. I'm not mad at you and I shouldn't have gotten so upset- I could've been more clear in the first place" he continued. Hunter wanted to cry again, only for a different reason this time. "Hey, hey, don't cry"
Oh, Hunter thought to himself as he realized. I am crying.
"How about this..." Darius started. "To make it up to you, I'll get some ice cream today and we can have a movie night when you get home from school, okay?"
Hunter smiled. What did he ever do to get Darius as his parent? Sure, the man was far from perfect, but he actually cared, unlike Belos, and would genuinely apologize and amend any errors he made along the way.
"Okay" Hunter said, in slightly higher spirits now. "That would be fun, if it's no trouble"
"Consider it done"
