Work Text:
When Vincent Thorpe came to visit his son in Nevermore during a certainly unusual event, he proposed a solution to his spoiled son so that he could finally win over the girl who despised him so much. A love potion. Xavier was reluctant at first, but it was the last resort he thought could make Wednesday reciprocate his feelings. So, at the end of the conversation between father and son, he accepted Vincent's idea. Vincent managed to obtain the potion in a few weeks and sent it by mail.
Along with the potion, there was a small note saying that if the girl was already in love with someone, the potion would have a poisonous effect and kill her within a few hours, with the only way to reverse the effect being for the girl to drink the blood of her beloved. Xavier couldn't help but find it macabre, but he honestly doubted that Wednesday was in love with anyone. Xavier vaguely remembered the delinquent barista named Tyler who was always hanging around Wednesday. But he quickly dismissed the possibility because if she was resisting the advances of the most perfect boy in Nevermore, as he saw himself, why would she give in to that ordinary normie who certainly didn't have as many qualities to be her perfect match as he did? It was almost impossible.
So, on a day that dawned as ordinary as any other, Xavier prepared himself to finally have the girl at his feet. He dressed meticulously, styled his hair with gel, looked at himself in the mirror, and sighed with satisfaction at his own image. Then, he took the small vial of potion and put it in his pants pocket. He left his dorm room with confidence and headed towards the cafeteria, where he spotted the table where Wednesday was having breakfast. He immediately smiled at the girl with black hair, who was focused on reading a book, while he noticed that Enid, Divina, and Yoko were at another table, chatting animatedly as always. He grabbed a coffee and a pancake and headed towards the empty table.
"Aren't you going to sit with your friends?" he said amicably, sitting next to her, while she didn't even take her eyes off the book to look at him.
"Enid is too noisy in the morning, I prefer to start my morning in solitude with a good book." Xavier felt upset because he understood the message that she preferred solitude, meaning that she didn't want him there again. But he wasn't willing to give up, he was so close to succeeding in his plan. He noticed what she was reading, "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde," a book he had read himself but certainly wasn't on his list of favorites.
"Interesting book you're reading," he said amiably, trying to get Wednesday to look at him.
"It would be easier to read if there were silence." She replied with a cold voice, not even blinking. It would be easy to pour the potion into her drink on the table, that's what Xavier thought. On the other hand, he knew Wednesday was observant of everything, even if she wasn't looking. So he had to find a way to distract her.
"What is Thing doing over there at Enid's table?" Xavier pointed to the table opposite where Wednesday's coffee was, and Wednesday finally lifted her gaze. As she looked at the table with only the girls, Xavier poured the liquid from the potion into her coffee. She quickly glanced back at him, suspicious.
"I must be mistaken, didn't sleep well this morning, must be seeing things." He gave a fake smile and panicked to come up with an excuse to leave as quickly as possible.
"I think I saw Ajax at a table, I'll let you get back to your reading." He said, quickly moving away, picking up his own coffee, until he actually found Ajax at a table that provided a perfect view of Wednesday's table. He watched her read, and after a few seconds, she drank the coffee. The moment he had been waiting for had finally arrived. From afar, he couldn't see any change in Wednesday, she was immersed in her reading once again, but he had to approach her to see if the potion had worked.
"Wednesday, are you okay?" Xavier asked hopefully.
"What do you want, Xavier?" She didn't take her eyes off the book again. He thought he would have to take drastic measures, so he grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him.
"Can I kiss you?" he asked to test, leaning closer to her.
"Have you lost your mind?" Her reaction was quick, grabbing his arm and throwing him to the ground in front of the entire cafeteria. The potion definitely hadn't worked. Xavier's thoughts raced, Wednesday was in love with someone else. Could it be that damn Tyler Galpin? As he stood up, he saw that everyone had stopped to witness his humiliation. It was too humiliating. Wednesday stood there, as if nothing had happened, her expression neutral and cold. Enid approached her, concerned, seeing the boy on the floor.
"Wednesday, are you okay?" Enid asked the girl, and when Wednesday stumbled over her own feet, leaning on a chair, Xavier stood up and immediately knew what was happening.
"I'm fine," she said, placing her hand on her head. "I'm just a little dizzy," she said, immediately recognizing that something was wrong with herself.
"It's the potion's effect," Xavier finally had the decency to speak.
"What potion?" Enid asked, frightened with wide eyes.
"I might have given her a little bit of love potion," Xavier confessed, and Wednesday looked at him with hatred.
"Obviously, it didn't work," Wednesday retorted, wanting to strangle Xavier with her own hands at that moment, but she was gradually feeling weak.
"It didn't work, and you have to take the antidote before it's too late," Xavier warned, fearing more than anything else becoming a murderer.
"Antidote? What do you mean by 'too late'?" Enid asked all at once, clearly concerned about her friend.
"She has to..." Xavier swallowed hard, realizing that Wednesday Addams was actually in love with someone. And it wasn't him.
"She has to?" Enid prompted the boy to continue. Wednesday gave him a deadly look, as if she already knew the answer and threatened his life if he continued that sentence.
"She has to drink the blood of the person she's in love with," Xavier finally blurted out everything at once. After processing that information, Enid let out a little scream.
"But I'm not in love with anyone," Wednesday said defensively, gritting her teeth. Damn Xavier Thorpe for this.
"That's not what the potion says," he replied, and he didn't know how he was still alive. Maybe because Wednesday was dizzy from the potion's effect.
"Wednesday, you have to tell me who it is!" Enid shouted and shook her friend's shoulders. Wednesday looked from Xavier to Enid, from Enid to Xavier. Until everything went black for her.
"Xavier, Wednesday fainted! What do we do now?" The blonde said frantically as she tried to lift her friend.
"Now you're her best friend, Enid. You must surely know who she's in love with," Xavier said, and Enid's anger reached a level where her claws were starting to show. She controlled herself because she was holding Wednesday in her arms. He had caused all this mess, and now he was throwing the responsibility on Enid to solve it?
"The potion will become lethal within 12 hours. I can leave Wednesday in the infirmary while we search for the person," Xavier offered shamelessly.
"Go to hell, Xavier. You've caused enough problems. Get out of here before I scratch your face with my claws. Ajax!" Xavier had never seen Enid like that, her gaze almost as terrifying as Wednesday's, so he thought it best to obey.
"Enid, what happened to Wednesday? Is she okay?" It was Ajax who had answered his call.
"No, Ajax. She's not okay. I need you to take her to the infirmary. Tell them to keep her resting because she's under the effect of the love potion," Enid said seriously to Ajax, and the gorgon nodded, picking up the little gothic girl in his arms.
"And where are you going, Enid?" Ajax asked, slightly confused, as they both left the cafeteria.
"I'm going to talk to the only person who can help me with this." She said as she headed in the opposite direction of the infirmary, back to her dorm room.
Upon arriving there, she found who she was looking for: Thing, who was typing on Wednesday's typewriter.
"Thing! You don't know what happened! You have to help me!" Enid said, approaching the appendage and explaining the whole story to him, and he listened attentively.
"Do you know who Wednesday could be in love with?" Enid asked anxiously, and Thing gestured positively. "Who?" she asked, with a hint of desperation in her voice. He gestured again.
"The Sheriff's son and Weathervane's barista?" she asked, and Thing confirmed. "Tyler Galpin, that makes sense." She already had a suspicion that Wednesday might reciprocate the obvious feelings the boy had for her, as she kept him close even though she knew Tyler was in love with her. She had seen Wednesday go to the Weathervane countless times only when it was his shift. She had seen Wednesday turn to Tyler for information about the town. She had taken him to the dance as her date and danced with him. If Wednesday didn't like him, she definitely wouldn't have done that willingly. Wednesday didn't despise him as she so clearly did with Xavier. It was as if she enjoyed the presence of the Sheriff's son, and Enid could see that. She had a slight suspicion, but with Thing also sensing it, their chances of being right were higher. Then Thing told her they had a meeting in the crypt, and Enid's hopes of saving her friend increased. So he and Enid set off for the Weathervane, hoping that Tyler would believe that Wednesday's feelings were mutual, despite the girl's insistence on hiding that sentiment.
When they arrived there, the Weathervane was practically empty, and Tyler was calmly cleaning the counter. They approached, and Tyler spotted them, offering a smile.
"Thing. Enid. What can I get you to drink?" he asked the blonde as he finished cleaning the counter.
"I don't want anything to drink, Tyler. This is an emergency. Wednesday has been poisoned," Enid exclaimed desperately, placing her hands on the counter.
"Poisoned? What do you mean?" His expression became worried, and his heart raced uncontrollably. He couldn't bear to lose Wednesday. He couldn't imagine his life without her anymore.
"That idiot Xavier made a love potion for her, but it didn't work because she's already in love with someone else. So the potion will turn into poison in less than 12 hours and kill her," Enid spoke so much information at once. Damn Thorpe, he could kill him with his own hands. Wednesday was in love? Wednesday could die? And why did Enid and Thing come to him?
"So we need the blood of the person Wednesday is in love with," they thought Wednesday was in love with him? How he wished that were true.
Tyler tried to process it all, swallowed hard, and saw that Enid was looking at him with a certain expectation. He decided that even if it wasn't him, he would help his friends. He cared so much about Wednesday that he would find this person she was in love with, even if it broke his own heart in the process.
"Do you want me to help you find that person? Is that it?" Tyler asked, nervously wiping his sweaty hands on his red work apron.
"Tyler! We think that person is you!" Enid said impatiently, and Thing agreed. Tyler looked at them confused.
"Me? But I've always told her I wanted to be more than friends, and all she responded was that she was not more-than-friend material, that she would ignore me, stomp on my heart, and always put her needs and interests first," he recalled the night they went on their first date together.
"You don't see it? That's how Wednesday is. She wasn't really rejecting you, she was basically warning you about what it would be like if you dated her, that you would have to understand her way of being, which is like that," Enid said, and Tyler laughed disbelievingly.
"Seriously! Today, Xavier asked to kiss her," upon hearing that, irrational jealousy ran through Tyler's mind, "and she literally knocked him to the ground!" Enid exclaimed, and Tyler suddenly felt a little calmer. He couldn't imagine the disappointment he would feel if Wednesday even considered kissing that spoiled brat. He paused for a moment.
"Well, when I tried to kiss her on our date, she didn't knock me to the ground at least." He said only that, but his mind also thought that she leaned closer to him when he leaned in to kiss her. As if she wanted that too. If it weren't for his father interrupting...
"You see! Please, Tyler, we need you. You're our best bet." Enid pleaded, and Thing did too. So, Tyler talked to a coworker and took a break to deal with a personal issue.
"How much blood do you need?" Tyler asked, taking off his work apron, and Enid pulled him out of the Weathervane.
A few minutes later, they were in Nevermore's infirmary, where Tyler's blood was being slowly drawn and placed in a container.
"This guy?" Ajax whispered softly to Enid, and she nodded, telling him to be quiet. "I didn't know Wednesday liked such a vanilla guy," Ajax continued.
"If Wednesday were awake, she would threaten you right now. So shut up," Enid replied to her boyfriend, who could sometimes be a bit clueless.
"I think it's done, Tyler. There's enough blood for her to drink," Enid approached Tyler again. Tyler was standing by Wednesday's bedside, his right hand caressing her hand, clearly looking worried and lovingly at the girl. Could they be any cuter together? That's what Enid thought.
"Great, I would give anything to be here when she wakes up, but my boss has already called me ten times, and I don't want to be fired. Regardless of whether she wakes up or not, I want you to message me. I want to help," Tyler said and bid farewell to Enid, kissing Wednesday's forehead, who was still under the potion's effect.
Back at the Weathervane, after receiving a scolding from his boss for leaving his post for more than 20 minutes, Tyler received a message from Enid. Tyler's heart seemed to be racing a mile a minute. Had Wednesday woken up? Did she reciprocate his feelings? He was afraid to open the message and find out that she hadn't woken up, that she was in love with someone else. However, to end this anguish, he opened Enid's message all at once.
"She woke up, Tyler. Thank you so much!" That's what Enid's text message said. Tyler was the happiest man in the world. The girl he loved loved him back, even though she didn't want to admit it.
"Enid, can you be out of your room for a few hours tonight? I want to talk to Wednesday alone." He typed the message anxiously.
"Sure ;) " Enid's reply came quickly, and Tyler started thinking about how he would talk to Wednesday. He wanted so badly for her not to reject him and let them have their first kiss that night.
Later, Tyler knocked on Wednesday's door, with a simple black dahlia in his hand and his heart in the other. Either he would finally be with the girl he had always loved since he first met her, or he would be rejected once again. He could only pray for the first option to happen. He gathered his courage and took a deep breath as he heard the door opening and saw Wednesday answering it, wearing a black dress with a white collar and her classic braids. Tyler couldn't help but think she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in his life.
On the other hand, Wednesday found it strange that Enid and Thing had gone out for the night after she almost died and didn't fill her with excessive worry. But now it was explained. They set it up so that Tyler would find her alone. So that she would have to confront her feelings for him. Now everyone knew she was in love. What a disappointment.
Since she met Tyler, she knew he was different, as if he were compatible with her. He knew how to respect her boundaries and understood her peculiarities, giving her favorite flower, not mocking her peculiar dance, and even trying to imitate her steps, taking her on a date in a crypt and making perfect quads.
She had been trying to bury the sensations that ran through her mind and body whenever Tyler directed a smile at her, hovered over her while helping her with investigations, and gave her small, discreet touches. But it was becoming impossible. She knew she was slowly falling in love with the green-eyed normie boy, but she couldn't stay away from him. She was mortified by it.
There he was again at her door, this time with a flower in his hand, hoping that she would finally say she liked him. But that information would have to be extracted from her, and she would love to see Tyler try.
"Tyler, what do you want?" She took the flower from his hand and stood at the door, not looking into his eyes. She was still mortified that he had discovered her feelings and saved her life.
"Wednesday, I came to see if you're okay." She looked into his eyes and saw genuine concern, so much affection in his eyes that she thought she would gouge her own eyes out to stop feeling her stomach burn and suppress the urge to kiss him. She just wanted him to go away so she wouldn't have to talk about feelings.
"I'm fine, Tyler. Is that all?" She said quickly and made a gesture to close the door, but he was faster and held it.
"Wait, Wednesday. I really want to talk to you. I was worried. Can I come in?" He pleaded with a puppy dog face, testing Wednesday's resistance once again.
"Come in, but it has to be quick. Enid and Thing will be back soon." It was a lie, and Tyler knew it. He knew it would be difficult to make Wednesday confess her feelings for him, but nothing that is truly good is easy, or so he had always heard. She sat on her bed, and he courageously sat next to her. She kept staring at his face, and Tyler knew that if he didn't break the silence, Wednesday certainly wouldn't.
"You know, I thought I would get a thank you." He said that, but he certainly didn't expect it, he just wanted to bring up the subject.
"Thank you for what?" She continued to pretend she didn't understand, but she didn't move away from him when she realized they were so close, sitting on the bed, that their thighs lightly brushed against each other. Tyler noticed it.
"That I saved your life today, Barbie Grim Reaper." He leaned his face towards her, smiling, and Wednesday was angry at the nickname, but Tyler continued cheerfully as he poured out the inconvenient truth to her. "Enid told me that jerk poisoned you and that you had to drink the blood of the person you were in love with to escape death. It was kind of spooky, as you prefer. But I'm glad I saved the girl I'm in love with." The girl he was in love with. Shit. Could he be more ridiculously romantic?
"I'm not in love with you, Tyler," she tried to lie, avoiding looking at him as she turned her face to the window to prevent him from seeing her slightly blushing face.
"That's not what the potion said." He said as he took her hand that was resting on the bed. She immediately felt a shiver run through her body.
"Wednesday, look at me and repeat what you said. If you say it while looking into my eyes, I'll leave." He humbly requested, and she turned her face back to him. It was the opportunity she had to not confess anything to him tonight.
"Tyler," she began, but didn't know if she could continue.
"Yes?" he replied after a few seconds of silence, ready to have his heart broken by her once again. Loving Wednesday Addams was torture, but he would have his heart broken a thousand times until she decided to put the pieces back together one day. He could only hope that day was today.
"I don't..." she made a gesture to continue, but he practically pressed his face against hers, their lips now just millimeters apart.
"You don't?" Wednesday could feel his warm breath, and the smell of coffee and forest that he emitted filled her nostrils. It made her mind clouded. She lowered her gaze to his lips and wondered what it would be like to taste them. If she leaned in just a little more, there on her bed, they would share their first kiss, the one that was prevented on their first date. Then, before Wednesday could succumb to her primal urges to kiss the boy she secretly loved, they heard a knock on the door. As if awakened from a trance, she pulled away from him, and Tyler let out a frustrated groan. She answered the door, and it was none other than the annoying Xavier Thorpe.
"Wednesday, are you feeling better?" That's what Thorpe's mouth uttered, but she could only imagine stabbing him for everything he had done to her. How dare he come and ask that? She wanted him to suffer.
"Are you with someone?" He asked suspiciously, and she remembered how she could hurt him.
"Yes, I'm with someone. I was having fun with Tyler, but you interrupted our make-out session. So, bye." She said acidly and saw the look of disgust on the boy's face. That was just the beginning; Xavier would regret ever being born. She slammed the door in his face.
"A make-out session?" She heard Tyler's ironic voice behind her and turned to face him.
"That's just something I made up to make that ridiculous guy suffer," she defensively said, and he approached her, holding her hand again.
"I don't know, it sounded like something that was already on your mind while we were there on the bed," he said with a mischievous smile on his face. How could he be both cute and wicked at the same time? She so wanted to wipe that smile off his face.
"Confess, Wednesday. I already know that you like me," he continued in a soft voice, and Wednesday's determination was breaking down. She took a deep breath.
"Why do you want to hear something that you supposedly already know?" She tried to follow a different train of thought, and he let out a frustrated sigh, stepping away from her to sit on the bed again.
"Because I want you to say it in plain words, just like I've said it several times," as he spoke, Wednesday approached her bed until she was facing him. "You've said it?" She feigned ignorance again, and he laughed.
"I've said many times that I'm madly in love with you since I met you," he said seriously, unable to believe that she was still prolonging this. "The question is: can you say that you like me?" In a swift motion, Tyler pulled her to sit on his lap. The closeness was overwhelming, once again overwhelming Wednesday's senses. Being close to him felt so right and brought such good sensations. Unconsciously, she placed her hands in his hair and pulled slightly, making him let out a low moan. She saw that Tyler's pupils were dilated, and she bet hers were too. That was it, there was no denying it anymore. She wanted it, wanted to kiss him at that very moment. She needed it. And no one else interrupted them as she leaned in to kiss him. She leaned in with hunger and passion she didn't know she was capable of feeling. He responded with the same intensity, with one of his hands going to the angle of her jaw to improve the angle of the kiss, introducing his tongue into her mouth. She found it wickedly good, promptly reciprocating by sliding her tongue into his mouth.
She had certainly spent her 15 years of existence thinking that kissing was a disgusting act, but Tyler seemed to be programmed to shatter all the conceptions she had believed about romance. Kissing was good, at least kissing Tyler was very good.
His other hand tightened around her waist, and Wednesday responded by pressing her body even closer to his, causing Tyler to let out a small groan from the depths of his throat. They pulled away for a moment, both breathless, and Wednesday leaned in again to kiss him, but he stopped her.
"If you want to kiss me again, you'll have to end my torture," he said blushing, with a mischievous smile on his face. She knew exactly what he wanted. Well, now that she had experienced how wonderful it was to kiss him, she couldn't go without it. Both of Wednesday's hands reached to hold the boy's face as she made her confession.
"Fine. I like you," she said seriously, but still slightly breathless, looking into his eyes.
"More than as a friend?" he asked as if he didn't already know the answer.
"More than as a friend. Are you satisfied?" she said without hesitation, still holding his face, unable to believe that he had managed to break down all her walls.
"Very, very satisfied " he said with the biggest smile she had ever seen on his face and pulled her back into another kiss.
And that's how Wednesday Addams confessed that she was terribly in love with Tyler Galpin.
