Chapter Text
“I had a dream last night”
“Hmph?”
“I was just a child, without status, without name, nothing special, and I was happy with it. But then I saw it, a castle in the sky, shining so bright, that made me aware of my own obscurity. That’s when I swore to myself that one day, I would have it”
“Always such a simple man, eh?”
“That’s why, I made my band of mercenaries, just with that goal on my mind”
“Yeah?”
“Despite being mostly made up of young men, we got recognized by knights like a dangerous band. Everyone expected us to crumble right away, but we held that castle for far longer than expected, even if we never manage it to turn it into a victory, it seemed like nothing could stop us. That was it, until one of our best knights got down by one man”
“Really?”
“He was unique, his swordsmanship was beyond magnificent, even with someone who was twice his height, with a single movement defeated him. Every movement was precise and with an inhuman strength, capable of swing a sword that seemed heavier than him”
“Who was it?”
“Well, he was a young man, with dark hair and tanned skin, and with a particular scar in his nose”
“Oh, I see… Such a handsome man, eh?”
“Oh, but so impulsive”
“... I see”
“And incredible stubborn”
“Got it”
“And couldn’t obey a simple order”
“Okay, I get it”
“And sometimes really annoying”
“... okay”
“No a single thought in his -”
“Hey!”
“Okay, okay. Anyway, by the end of the day we had already done what we were paid for, so we retreated and made a camp near the road. I laid my back against the grass and closed my eyes. But even when I tried to distract myself, my mind always went towards that man, so talented, so incredible. That is when I realized, I needed to have him. I must have him. And then, it was like God gave me a blessing. Awaken by my soldiers’ screams, I saw him”
“And what did you do?”
“I looked down on him on from horseback, he glared up at me, squinting in the light, and our eyes met. It was you, It has always been you. And then… I remembered”
“What did you remember?”
The white haired man went silent, slowly raising his upper body, sitting on the grass, and despite his serene face, Guts could notice something on his face.
Sadness? Regret?
“Griffith, what did you remember?”
