"Mobius, no! There's no way I'm getting on one of those things!"
Loki tried to free his hand from Mobius', but the man held him tightly by the wrist.
They walked along the beach toward the dock where the jet skis were.
Mobius stopped and turned to Loki, "This is the first time I've been able to ride a jet ski, and it's all thanks to you, and you don't want to come with me?"
Loki shook his head, "That's your passion, not mine."
Mobius insisted, "Oh come on Loki, besides you've got nothing to do but hold on to me."
Loki muttered, "That's the problem.
Although he spoke in a low voice, Mobius had heard him and nodded knowingly, "Oh, that's the problem, isn't it?"
"What?" asked Loki defiantly.
"You won't be in control."
Loki said nothing, unsettled that Mobius had seen through him once again.
Mobius let go of his hand and turned his chin toward him, "You want to drive, I don't mind holding you."
Loki scanned Mobius' face for any sign that the man was making this offer reluctantly, but of course he found none. But he would not accept Mobius' offer. He knew too well what it meant to him. In fact, he was the first one who had encouraged him to realize his passion instead of just living it vicariously through a magazine.
He shook his head, "No, you're the one who has to drive, that's final. But that doesn't mean I have to enjoy coming."
Mobius kissed his pout and when he stepped back, he grabbed his hand and said gently, "Oh, come on, grumpy face, it will be fun!"
Loki muttered, "You and I have a different idea of fun. And I'm not going to let you call me a grumpy face."
Mobius stopped again and turned to him, asking seriously, "Loki, you trust me, don't you?"
Loki shot back, "Of course, completely!"
Mobius continued, "So if you trust me and leave me in control, you know I won't let anything happen, right?"
Loki looked at his lover's genuine expression and knew he had lost. He sighed, "It's okay... I'll come with you."
Mobius cupped his face and said softly, "Thank you, sweetheart. I promise everything will be all right."
He pressed his lips to Loki's once more, then grabbed his hand again and, intertwining their fingers, added, "Let's go!"
And as he walked beside him, Loki watched Mobius' face and saw his happy expression. After that, the last vestiges of reticence vanished like snow in the sun.
He realized that Mobius' real happiness was not jet skiing, but sharing it with him.
Of course, after that, Loki knew he wouldn't do anything to spoil the happiness of the one he loved.
