Work Text:
Dazai dropped by with no warning, while Verlaine and Rimbaud were out at work. He was starting to become a bit of a constant in the twins' life. Showing up whenever he felt like it and inserting himself into their lives. Chiharu was still warming up to him, but Chuuya was already matching his teasing energy at every turn.
On this particular day, he had come over for Chuuya. Both siblings were relaxing it the living room, playing video games together, when Dazai poked his head into the room. Neither of them was surprised, with Chuuya waving him over.
“Hi!” Dazai shouted, bounding over to them, a mischievous look on his face.
“Hey fish face, what’re you doing here?” Chuuya asked without taking his eyes off the game.
The brunette pouted at that, “I’m here to drag a stupid slug along to hang out with me.”
That was enough to break the older redhead’s attention to the game, “Why would you want me to go anywhere with you?”
“‘Cause I’m so lonely, no one else my age to go do stupid teenager stuff with,” he explained, although neither twin could tell if it was the truth or not.
“I guess I could go out with you for a bit, but only after Chi and I finish up what we’re doing,” Chuuya agreed, only willing to go out with Dazai out of curiosity.
—
They left as soon as the twins finished up, and Dazai seemed to be excited, for a reason beyond Chuuya’s understanding. Chiharu hadn’t been invited along, and made it extremely clear he didn’t want to go out either. So, he would tell their parents where the older twin had disappeared off to.
Dazai stayed quiet throughout the walk, and Chuuya was suspicious of him, and wondered where they were going. It felt like they were walking forever, getting so far from his home, that he wasn’t sure he’d know the way back. Which just showed that Dazai knew his way around better than him, despite the brunette being younger.
When they finally stop walking, they were in front of a shop that appeared to sell antiques. It only brought more confusion to Chuuya, who didn’t know what they were doing there. Only following when Dazai entered, nervously glancing around the shop.
“Hey, where are you guys!?” Dazai shouted, startling Chuuya.
A blonde popped out from a back room, “Is it the day for inspection?”
The brunette sighed, “No, my reason for being here isn’t work related.”
“Oh? Is this because I told you that I’ll never let you drive since you’d probably just crash on purpose?” the boy questioned playfully, making the redhead annoyed, unsure why Dazai acting this way with others bothered him.
“Nope, although, I bet this slug would be interested in your collection of vehicles.” the sudden mention of Chuuya made the teen stand a little bit more tensely.
A hand touched Chuuya’s back, and he screamed, jumping, “Your posture is rather rigid.”
“What the fuck!? Don’t just do that without warning,” the redhead was shouting, still startled.
“That’s where you were, Doc! We were wondering where you disappeared off to,” the blonde happily exclaimed.
Doc chuckled weakly, slowly moving towards the back of the shop, “Albatross, you should know that I don’t usually go far without company. Unless it’s to the clinic, and then you’ll know where I am, since I always invite one of you to join me for a ‘check up’.”
Chuuya felt shivers go up his spine, “I don’t know what’s going on here, and I don’t think I want to know. I’m leaving, I’ll see you later, Dazai.”
“You don’t know the way back, just stick around and hang out for a while, it’ll be worth your time,” Dazai told him with certainty.
“I can find my way,” he tried to convince him, knowing he’d just end up floating up to get a better view if he did get lost.
Just as he was turning to leave, Albatross ran over, “Don’t go yet, you’ve yet to see my amazing motorcycle. It’s the best ride around.”
A new voice was heard from the back, “You bragging about your motorcycle again? I thought I told you that it’s not necessary.”
“Don’t worry about that Pianoman, the guy he’s bugging was brought here by me because I thought he’d get along with you guys. Chuuya is just a little prickly at first,” Dazai assured the mysterious Pianoman that the redhead had yet to see.
“You brought him here, so we’d have a new friend? How nice of you! I didn’t think the infamous Demon Prodigy could be considerate,” Albatross teased, like he was just waiting to get torn apart by the brunette.
Chuuya shoved his way over to Dazai, “You brought me here because of friendship?” He rolled his eyes, scoffing, “You really are a dumb fuck if you think I’ll let you choose my friends.”
That got him a whiny response, “I just thought that the dear slug was lonely, since I only ever see you hanging out with your brother.”
“Well, maybe that’s because you don’t go to school, so you don’t see that I do have friends,” he snapped back.
“Fine, don’t appreciate me thinking about something for you,” Dazai crossed his arms, and seemed annoyed.
That made Chuuya pause, they had gotten an audience, with two new people appearing from the back. It was just in that moment that he was realizing all of them had weapons. They were likely all mafia affiliated, and that meant Dazai was their superior, so they would likely take his side.
A familiar looking blonde was the one that came over to settle the spat, “Now now boys, let’s not fight. Dazai had good intentions, but did not realize that it may be taken wrong. While you clearly don’t want to be here, which makes sense, since it seems like you got brought here without any knowledge of why you were being brought.”
“How about, while you guys are deciding on being friendly again or not, I show off my motorcycle?” Albatross suggested, getting several eye rolls.
“Sure, I guess,” Chuuya mumbled, still frustrated.
Hearing the confirmation from the only person there who hadn’t seen it, he grabbed Chuuya’s hand and dragged him to the back room. It was a bit messy, but appeared to be a hangout room. Then through there was the back door, which led to a parking lot. He was dragged all the way over to a dark pink motorcycle.
“What do you think?” he asked, a large smile on his face.
“It’s pretty nice, how fast can you even go on it though?” Chuuya was surprised by how it seemed to be in impeccable condition.
Albatross chuckled, “You wanna hop on, and I’ll take you for a test drive?”
That made the teen’s eyes widen, as he nodded. Getting helped onto the seat, before a helmet was placed on his head. Then Albatross got in front of him, his own helmet on.
“Hold on tight,” was the only warning he gave before kicking the side stand away, turning the motorcycle on, and taking off.
Chuuya clung on tightly, feeling the air blow against his clothes. It was unlike anything he’d ever felt before, and he decided that maybe Dazai was right. At least about getting him to be friends with Albatross, since that meant more rides on the motorcycle.
They flew down a few roads, going at speeds Chuuya hadn’t gone before. There were a couple moments he almost used his ability, thinking he was going to fall off. Yet, there was only one time he actually had to, as Albatross slammed on the brakes at a stop light.
Chuuya had used gravity to increase the weight of the bike, so they wouldn’t skid into traffic. The older teen blinked in confusion, knowing they should have flown right through the intersection with how fast they were going. It took a few seconds for him to realize the redhead clinging to him had an ability, but he decided to not bring it up.
Turning onto a road when the light changed so that they could return to the antiques shop. When they parked out back in the parking lot, Chuuya’s legs were shaking. He ended up needing help off the motorcycle, but when Albatross smirked at him, with a knowing look, he awkwardly smiled back.
Maybe Dazai was right. He’d have to apologize for being so rude. But at least he had someone new and interesting to hang out with.
