Dazai's Unofficial Dads

Summary:

Dazai decides to stop by with his parental figures, and pokes some buttons he shouldn't have with the twins.

Work Text:

Chuuya was laying splayed out across his bed, book floating above him with his ability, when Chiaharu entered the room.

“You know who is here, and he’s apparently brought company.” Chiharu’s mention of other people makes him wonder if it’s the people he’d met a little while ago while out with Dazai.

“Do you know who is with him?” Chuuya asked, letting the book fall onto the bed.

There was a light shake of his head, “No, I don’t know them. But, both of them seem to be several years older than him.”

Curious, he pulled himself out of bed. “Let’s go see who he’s decided to drag over.”

Exiting the bedroom, he walked down the hall with Chiharu, and then downstairs, to find Dazai and two men he hadn’t seen before at the table, chatting with Rimbaud. Upon seeing the faux twins, the young brunette ran over. He seemed almost overly excited to see them, and both boys wondered why.

“C’mon, you’ve got to meet Odasaku and Ango! They’re great.” Dazai practically dragged them from the stairs to the kitchen.

Once in the kitchen, the twins got a good look at the two people who Dazai wanted them to meet. A redhead, who seemed to be at least five years older than him, and a glasses wearing man that looked like he hadn’t slept in at least a week. Both seemed like they were used to the chaotic nature of Dazai, and his odd amount of excitement and energy.

“This is Odasaku,” Dazai said, pointing at the redhead, “and that is Ango.” He then gestured to the glasses wearer.

“It’s just Oda, Dazai just likes to combine my first name and my last name,” Oda explained, sounding extremely calm, and bored.

Both twins had experienced the pain of nicknames, and nodded in understanding. However, it hadn’t been explained why Dazai brought them over. Which just made the two curious.

“I’m Chuuya, and this is Chiharu,” he introduced himself and his brother, before asking. “What’re you doing over, though? This feels like a rather random visit.”

Dazai smirked at them. “I wanted to introduce you all. So, I decided to bring Ango and Odasaku with me when coming over today. Plus, I told Verlaine and Rimbaud I was bringing them over before showing up.”

Humming in understanding, Chuuya spoke again, “Are you all staying for supper? Also, let’s head to the living room, where we’re out of the way of the food making.”

“Alright, we can leave this room. Also, when I asked earlier, Dazai told me we are staying for supper,” Ango replied, taking the sleeves of his two companions, and dragging them out of the room.

Sitting down in the living room, the group looked between each other, the siblings didn’t know how to talk to their new guests. Had it just been Dazai, it would have been easy. Insults would be passed back and forth, and there wouldn’t be a moment of silence. He was their age, and on their level, so they could playfully fight with each other, even though they knew they were messing with a mafia executive.

“Dazai, didn’t you want to talk to your friends about something?” Oda asked, breaking the silence.

“Oh, yeah! Oda and Ango, oh so nicely, have decided to let me live with them. So, I won’t crash on your couch as often,” Dazai informed them, which was a bit surprising to the siblings, having gotten used to him just showing up most nights.

Chiharu thought for a moment before inquiring, “So, it’s like they’re adopting you?”

Two sets of eyes widened, Dazai and Ango clearly hadn’t realized that, so, the teen responded, “I guess, heh, makes me not fatherless anymore, if you guys are okay with that…?”

“I thought you already knew that.” Oda tilted his head in confusion.

“Oda, you should have told me, I didn’t know that,” Ango whined.

The older man was surprised that Ango didn’t know, “I thought it was obvious. Dazai is around us most of the time, despite not needing to be.”

Not knowing how to respond, Ango got flustered, luckily Dazai had more to say. “Was that a yes? I can’t read your minds.”

Both men nodded.

“Well, good luck with him, he once came over, made a sandwich, and then tripped over his own feet and face planted in it,” Chuuya informed them, trying not to laugh at the memory.

“Can you stop bringing that up?! It happened once, it’s not like it happened a bunch.” Dazai’s face was burning bright red, embarrassment easily bleeding through.

Ango snicked, “So, you, the great demon prodigy, are a complete and utter klutz?”

Turning his head away from his parental figures, he muttered, “I’m not that clumsy…”

“Sure,” Chuuya sarcastically drawled.

“Hmpf,” Dazai was pouting, acting like a fussy child.

“Dude, we acted more mature as children than you are now,” Chiharu told him, intending to annoy him.

It succeeded, since he had a rebuttal, “I bet I was way more mature, plus, I’m a mafia executive, you guys are just normal teens.”

Both siblings chuckled at that, Chuuya taking the charge to shut that down. “Normal teens? Dazai, we’ve been raised by two mafia executives, and have abilities that could easily be used to tear apart the city if we so pleased. Plus, we haven’t even told you about our childhood, all you know is a snippet about when we got adopted. Either come up with a better argument, or give up.”

“Boys, how about we don’t fight.” Oda stepped in before they started going for each other’s throats.

Dazai pouted, and looked away from everyone, staring out the window. Oda and Ango wanted to tell him that provoking the twins was a bad idea, but it seemed like he didn’t think it’d go the way it did. From the other room, where the teen’s argument seemed to have not been heard, Rimbaud called out for them.

“Supper is ready!” he shouted, placing plates on the table.

Deciding to just not talk, they headed to the kitchen. They could work through their issues another time.
