Remus Lupin was staring transfixed at Sirius black. His dark eyes shone like onyx pools so deep he could drown in them. Remus was not paying attention at all to what his husband was saying. He stabbed at a piece of potato, lifting it up to take a bite and missing his mouth multiple times. Remus’ eyes were glossy and unfocused, his face serene, relishing the way Sirius simply looked. He was wearing a smart white evening shirt with the top unbuttoned and the sleeves rolled up. His alabaster skin was bathed in the soft orange glow of the candles floating around them. Remus’ eyes fell on Sirius’ lips, Oh, they looked so full, so soft..
Sirius snapped his fingers in front of Remus' face, bridging him back to earth sharply.
“Moony! Are you even listening to me??” Sirius asked, trying to look annoyed, but the effect was ruined by his broad grin.
“Were you too enraptured with me?” Sirius asked, his grin widening, batting his eyelashes playfully. Remus rolled his eyes, smiling as well.
“Oh, I was paying attention to you Sirius, just not to what you were saying.” He said, his eyes twinkling with mirth as Sirius flushed slightly.
“Bloody tease..” Sirius muttered, taking a sip from his glass. Remus took Sirius free hand, running his thumb over his knuckles, massaging them.
“You walked right into that one, darling.” Remus said, his eyes straying to Sirius’ lips again. He saw them curve into a smile.
“Oi, my eyes are up here.” Sirius said, reaching a hand up to lift Remus’ chin, so that he was looking at him.
“Sorry love..” Remus replied, looking deliberately into Sirius’ eyes. “I just can’t help it..” He added, leaning in and capturing Sirius’ lips in a kiss, bringing a hand up to stroke his cheek, feeling the smooth, marble like skin. Sirius' lips tasted like the wine he had been drinking, and Remus thought he could get drunk off the taste. When their lips broke apart, Sirius stood.
“Come, Darling. There’s something I've been wanting to show you.”
Remus stood, and followed Sirius into the hall of their little cottage. Sirius was already putting on his coat, and Remus hastened to put on his own. The moment Remus had finished tying the lace of his shoe, Sirius pulled him out of the door, dragging him down the little path leading up toward their cottage, and towards the forbidden forest.
Remus had been growing slightly uneasy as they neared the edge. What did Sirius want to show him? Surely it couldn't be anything dangerous..It wasnt that he didn't trust Sirius ofcourse, but he also knew better than anyone how reckless and foolhardy Sirius could prove to be…
“Alright, Moony?” Sirius asked, his eyes flitting over Remus’ face concernedly.
“Just curious is all..” Remus replied. As if Sirius could read his mind, he said quickly,
“ It’s nothing dangerous, love, the route is safe. I promise. Sirius gave Remus a reassuring smile. Remus’ expression softened, his mind eased. Sirius pulled out his wand, muttering, Lumos under his breath as they entered the forest. The trees stood tall, their canopies dark and ominous. The path Sirius led them down was rough and scattered with stones, periodic tree roots were lining the path, but Remus pointed them out with his advanced eyesight.
“Where are you taking me, Padfoot?” Remus muttered playfully, wrapping an arm around Sirius’ waist to stop him from tripping on a stray tree root.
“Aren't you scared a big bad werewolf would jump out from behind a tree and eat you up?”
Sirius’ barking laughter echoed through the dark forest.
“You eat me plenty Moony, I didn't think you would try here though.” Sirius said when his laughter had dissipated, grinning salaciously at Remus. Remus flushed red, flicking Sirius’ ear with his fingers. Sirius barked another laugh, standing on his tiptoes to steal a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Not far now Moony..” Sirius told him as they continued through the forest. Remus swore he could hear things. He sincerely hoped it was just centaurs, or perhaps unicorns.
Finally, after 20 minutes of wandering through the forest, they had reached the spot. Sirius had stopped in front of two trees. There were big bushes at the base, full of blooming hydrangea, paired with azalea. The tree branches were dropping slightly, the leaves on them acting like a kind of curtain. Sirius slowly stepped through the bushy growth that came up to his knees, spreading the leaf-curtain apart. Remus followed him through, and felt his jaw drop.
In front of him, there was a huge field of flowers in full bloom. Every kind Remus could think of, he saw it. The field was framed with tall firs, with the crescent moon hanging overhead like some kind of chandelier in the sky, illuminating the field, bathing it in the pearly glow of the moon. Fireflies were hovering above the field lazily, blinking periodically. The field was littered with great big magenta and scarlett peonies, white scotch roses running riot. Clumps of tall fern blended with gorgeous white and blue columbines, lilac lining the edges of the clearing. Masses of sweet clover with carnations and tiger lillies peeking out of them, paired with chrysanthemums and forget-me-nots. Sirius was watching Remus’ expression nervously.
“Is it alright Moon-” Sirius began, but he was cut off by Remus kissing him fiercely. Sirius overbalanced, and they both went tumbling backwards, laughing against each other's lips, the fall cushioned by the lush floral growth. Remus disconnected from Sirius’ lips, propping himself up on his elbows and looking into Sirius’ charming face. Slowly, Remus brushed the stray hair out of Sirius’ eyes, smiling softly.
“It’s Lovely, Sirius.” Remus whispered, lowering his head to kiss Sirius’ fluttering lashes.
“I love you, Moony.”
"I love you too, Sirius."
