Work Text:
It felt like a free fall at first. Into a black abyss. It was confusing and scary.
You felt alone. Especially with how the society is. Although people are becoming more accepting of it, there’s still a lot of work to be done, it makes it a little better. By a bit. You’re not broken or weird. Right? Your own teammates don’t look at you any different because of it…right?
Anyways, that’s not what matters right now. These thoughts come to plague you time and time again, but there’s no time for it right now. It’s the mission that was important. You couldn’t fail. You can’t fail. The bomb had to be defused. Fast.
With the Omega earth’s sage being the last one standing and still on site it gave you a bit of confidence. It’s just one sage.
You enter site, clearing all the corners. It seemed clear. Until it wasn’t.
The way a bullet zipped right past your ear made the hair on your neck stand. Curses spilled through your lips, scrambling for cover and tripping over your shoelaces in the process. Maybe tying them properly isn’t that bad of an idea next time.
Regaining composure you reach for the similar to nano-swarm like bomb Killjoy made for you, and toss it to ‘garden’. Hoping to whoever was listening it landed in the right corner. You set it off and Sage was forced to put herself out in the open. One bullet was all it took.
The machine to defuse the spike now in hand, a bead of sweat rolling down the side of your face. You held your breath, feeling the way the bomb was affecting your surroundings, the way the gravity was starting to diminish with how close the spike is to going off. Come on, come on, come on. Defuse faster!
Silence. A heavy exhale left your lips as you slumped against the metal container. Feeling the way the wind blew against your heated form in the sun.
You grabbed the bomb and put it away safely, throwing one last glance at the enemy Sage that laid there dead, In a funny position, before calling for the Vulture to pick you up. Entering back to the Valorant headquarters, you throw the gun back on the rack with the rest and dust off your pants from the little fall you had on Bind. “Great job, rookie. You did well.” A voice echoes from the doorway. A little startled at first at the sudden noise, you spun around. It’s just Brimstone. Of course it is. But Gekko not being here was a little disappointing.
“Oh, thanks Brim! I did my best.” You feel pride flow into you just a little. At the recognition and at the fact you pulled the mission off alone. Brimstone pats you on the back before telling you to go eat and get some rest.
Food? Later. But Cyphers expensive tea…would he notice one being gone? Worth a try. Surely he wouldn’t mind one being gone.
Rest seemed really enticing right now, so you all but bounce your way into your room making sure to close the door behind you. Pants and shirt now on the floor and you in the sheets, you feel rest coming to you. Until it doesn’t and you find yourself tossing and turning.
Everything feeling more cold and dark now. You don’t know how long it had been until you just gave up and sat up. Eyes drifted down to your exposed torso. The pinkish scar tissue sticking out in long lines under the pecs. You felt proud and happy that you got to have that surgery done. That doesn’t stop the thought from visiting you. ‘People see me as a guy right? Gekko doesn’t think of me any less, right? I’m not some wannabe man, am I?’ You don’t know when the tears started falling or when you felt the warm embrace of arms around you and a soothing tone whispering to you.
You threw your arms around Gekko and buried your face into the crook of his neck. His hand rubbing your back. “Shh, it’s okay. I’m here. Don’t cry, my sunflower” Him and his corny pet-names.
Sniffling and hands grabbing onto his shirt. “I- you see me as a guy, right? I’m not some faux guy, am I?” Gekko blinked in surprise. “No, of course not! Don’t even think that!” His hands found themselves resting against your cheeks, pulling you to look at him. “You’re the most amazing guy I could ever ask for. You’re a guy, through and through. You’re not some faux, you’re a real guy and always have been. Don’t doubt that for a moment. Love don’t even dare to think like that.” Gekko murmured. Before looking down on your chest. “See these scars? They’re your little achievements. Of being able to be who you really are and feel comfortable. Don’t think to yourself for a moment that you’ll be viewed any differently. You won’t. Every Valorant member accepts you and loves you just as you are. You are who you want to be and you deserve to feel accepted and loved.” His soft voice reaches your ears. Sniffling you wipe away the stray tear falling from your eye and a little smile finds itself forming on your lips. “Everyone loves you, mi amor. I love you.“
You nod, the thoughts of doubt starting to leave your mind, the depressing thoughts that find their way into your head being pushed out. Yeah, you are a real guy. Of course you are. Why wouldn’t you be? You always were and always will be. “See? I have a few scars too! This one was from when Wingman bit me because I ate the donut he wanted. Oh and this one from when I fell on my skateboard because I wasn’t paying attention-!” Gekko rambles, showing you all of his little scars. “Oh, oh! And then this one when we first met and you threw a knife at me because I startled you-!” A fond smile on your lips, you laugh at his endeavours and endless talking.
You loved how easily he could cheer you up and light up your world when it was becoming dark. Shit, you loved him, a lot. He reassured you when any thoughts of doubt seeped into your mind, when the day was too hard. When everything was sometimes just too much. He was always there.
Maybe you were a sunflower after all. He was the sun that helped you reach higher and look up towards.
The touching moment of two lovers was interrupted when Phoenix burst into the room with Wingman hot on his tail. “Yoooo, fam! Stop being corny and come with me. You have to see the prank of the century that’s about to go down. Jett is a real menace.” You shake your head with a grin, Gekko pulling you up and all but dragging you out the door- well not before planting a kiss on your cheek which had Phoenix jokingly gagging. Thankfully you managed to grab a shirt and shorts on the way out.
