my ears ring as i leave the room
leave the room and them all behind.
a pounding behind my eyes,
an intense ache,
as the anger and hurt sets in
in the form of a headache.
we would dance
and sing,
and youd tell me how special i was.
but now all you leave me is the agony of
silence
and ignorance.
if i could just catch your attention
and bring you back to my side,
maybe i wouldnt be here in this moment.
because the wind is whistling around me,
and my fingers are bleeding from climbing.
i reminisce about what was.
what will never be again.
im just not enough.
not enough for you,
not enough for them,
not enough for the stars,
not enough for the worms.
you string me along with scarce words of comfort,
smiles,
gentle touches,
leaving my heart aflame with hope,
drowned out instantly
as you leave me hanging off a cliff,
gestures meaningless.
i do what i can.
i try to prove myself.
if i can just do this.
if i can just do that.
if i could do this.
if i could do that.
if i could, i would.
just so you could smile for real
and tell me that you see me.
but you dont see me,
and i cant do that.
so im left here,
as the party rages on,
without me.
a rat skitters in the walls,
and the walls of our home rumbles.
and tears slip from my eyes as i realise.
"i will never be enough."
so my chair at the table next morning is empty.
and the silence is thick
as you realise
what youd done.
