Chapter Text

There was a large commotion in the common room, causing Bakugou and Kirishima to follow the noise.

There, everybody in their class was crowded around Hawks who was with you and Tokoyami.

Except the both of you looked very different. Shorter and chubbier to be specific.

“What the fuck happened?” He gaped.

“Bakugou! Kiri!” Mina giggled from where she was crouched in front of the mini bird. “Tokoyami and [y/n] got hit by an age rewind quirk at work. Aren’t they so cute?”

Tokoyami didn’t take to the compliment very well, crossing his arms and turning his head away in defiance. You were still overwhelmed by all the people crowding, so Hawks was carrying you while your face was hidden away in his neck.

“Uh shouldn’t they be at the hospital?” Kirishima asked worriedly. “You know, so they can… get fixed?”

“The quirk should be gone in a few days. Unfortunately, it’s not something the user can reverse on their own so they’re just stuck like this,” Hawks chuckled. He tried to bounce you in his arms to get you to look out but you were holding tightly onto him. “I gotta get back to work so I’m just here to drop the kids off. Doesn’t seem like this one wants to let go though.”

“How old are they?” Yaoyorozu crouched and tried to get a good look at Tokoyami. His cheeks turned red at the close proximity but he tried his best to act like a stone wall. She frowned worriedly, looking over to his usual group of friends to see if they’d be able to help.

“They both got hit with different intensities. Tokoyami’s about 10 and [yl/n]’s probably 3 or 4; which means Tokoyami will probably change back first. Alright now,” Hawks bent down to set you onto your feet but you weren’t letting go of his neck. “C’mon now sweetheart, I know you’re scared but you can trust these guys. They’re your friends. You live here.”

You shook your head violently against him, just smearing your face against his neck and Bakugou did not like that at all. He recalled during a game of truth or dare that you admitted Hawks had been your first love (way before you worked for him or were a Yuuei student) and he didn’t want to fucking see this little charade.

“Gimme her you fucking creepy chicken,” he snarled, stomping over and pulling you away. Your arms were outstretched towards the number two; he couldn’t see your face but he could tell from the soft whimper that you weren’t very happy.

“Oh don’t curse in front of the children,” Hawks jokingly reprimanded him. “You should know better than that, Bakugou. Besides, you think that’s what’ll get [yl/n] to like you?”

You turned your head, eyes wide and already brimming with tears. Bakugou should’ve schooled his expression but you caught one look at him and let out a great flap of your wings. Even with your small stature, it was enough to cause a great enough draft to push him back and get you back into Hawks’ arms.

Hawks laughed quietly, patting the back of your head as you comfortably settled against him. He knew what he was doing when he looked right at Bakugou, giving him a half-lidded smile. “Well sweetheart, I guess you can stay with me… My bed’s plenty big enough for the both of us and our wings.”

Nope, nope, nope.

Fucking nope.

“The fuck?!” Bakugou stomped over, screaming at the suave blonde. “Are you a fucking pervert or something?!”

“Bakugou, he’s just trying to annoy you,” Kirishima hissed, trying to pull him back.

“Oh my god, you’re scaring [y/n]!” Mina frowned and set her hands on her hips. “Stop that!”

“Come on, Tokoyami,” Iida smiled kindly at the child. “We’ll show you to your room. I think you’ll have a lot of fun seeing how the older you decorated it!”

He, Deku, Uraraka, and Tsuyu escorted the grumpy preteen away, not wanting him to get caught up in the argument that Bakugou was stirring.

“She’s fucking staying here!” He pointed an angry finger at the floor to emphasize it. “You’re out of your goddamn mind if you think I’m letting you take my girlfriend home to your shitty pedo-nest.”

Hawks clicked his tongue, shaking his head in a disapproving manner. “‘Dunno kid, seems like your girlfriend wants me more. Can’t really blame her though - never understood why she agreed to date you to begin with.”

Before Bakugou could tear him a new asshole, Yaoyorozu stepped past him, bringing Koda who was carrying a few birds on his arm.

“Hey [y/n],” she spoke softly. “Hawks needs to get back to work; how about you stay back here and play with us? Koda has a few friends we think you’d like to meet.”

You sneak a peek over your shoulder, and it’s obvious when you recognize the animals they’re offering up to win you over. You finally unstick your cheek from Hawks’ neck and lean over to get a better look at the cute little feathered bodies. Koda places one of the birds on Yaoyorozu’s shoulder, and it does a very appealing tiny hop.

The nervousness slowly goes away as you clearly want to interact with the birds. Hawks steps closer, allowing you to reach forward with a small finger. They chirp and don’t run away due to Koda’s presence, letting you rest a finger on top of its head.

“Like I always say, birds of a flock fly together,” he gently passes you over to Yaoyorozu. You don’t seem bothered by it, too enamored by the distraction. He chuckles, patting your head and your lips finally turn upwards to smile. “She won’t remember much when the quirk wears off, so just have her get checked by Recovery Girl afterwards to be safe. Tokoyami, too.”

“Of course,” Yaoyorozu nodded.

“Alright sweetheart, gonna skidaddle outta’ here.” His wings already begin to stretch out but Hawks’ eyes briefly pass over Bakugou for a second and a devious smirk makes its way back onto his face. “Be a good girl, alright?”

His hand comes down to your back, covering the entire thing with his glove and he places a small kiss at the crown of your head. Kirishima and Sero have to physically hold Bakugou back as he starts up again, taping his mouth to prevent you from crying at his foul language. Hawks simply laughs it off, walking leisurely away to the front door and taking off with his fierce wings.

Yaoyorozu and Koda bring you to sit down on a couch, letting the birds hop around you and keep you entertained. When you let out a tiny chirp of your own, Mina coos loudly while Bakugou just awkwardly stands there surveying the entire ordeal. He knew your quirk gave you some more bird-like traits but he’s never heard that before.

He sits down on the couch across. You keep a wary eye on him for a bit but keep playing with the birds.

He doesn’t like that. You shouldn’t be scared of him at all. No, in fact, you should be playing with him instead of those extras. He pouts and grumbles, pulling out his phone to keep himself preoccupied but there’s a racket coming from upstairs that has everybody pausing. Something like a great crash, followed by lots of yelling and rumbling, as though their classmates were running around in the hallways.

“What on earth…?” Yaoyorozu mumbles under her breath.

Not long after, Bakugou’s instincts have him jumping towards you, wrapping his arms around you and protectively pushing your head against his chest as the ceiling gives in, Iida falling through the hole and Dark Shadow howling above. They all gape at their class rep who is laying spread eagle on the floor, blinking away rapidly at the dust.

“Dude?” Kaminari’s jaw was hanging wide open. The sound and sight of Froppy sticking her head through the hole catches their attention.

“Um, we may have made the mistake of allowing Tokoyami in his dark room alone,” she sweat dropped.

Bakugou huffs, slowly letting go as you try and peer curiously around him to see the destruction.

Iida sighs, bringing his palms up to rub at his eyes. “Aizawa-sensei is not going to be happy…”

“What the fuck is that?!”

After informing their teacher about the catastrophe and getting dinner, the girls agreed to have a slumber party in the common room since you were too scared to sleep on your own. Tokoyami would be sleeping in his room, but Iida and Midoriya would be sleeping in futons on the floor in case anything else happened.

Bakugou glowered at the little stuffed toy you had in your hands.

“It’s Hawks,” Yaoyorozu smiled and patted your head. “She seems to really miss him, and I thought it would help her sleep better at night.”

“You don’t need that stupid ass oversized pigeon,” he started pulling it away from you but you weren’t letting go. “Hah?”

Your cheeks puffed up, eyes narrowing at him dangerously as you had a tight hold on the dolls’ legs.

“Oi, let go,” he growled.

You bared your teeth (in the most adorable way possible) and tugged back fruitlessly.

“Bakugou, don’t tell me you’re jealous of a doll,” Mina rolled her eyes.

“I’m not fucking jealous of anything,” he sneered and pulled it up over his head, way out of your reach. “You don’t need a stupid toy of that extra. He’s a loser anyways.”

You stared up at the Hawks plush in his hand, mouth slightly ajar at the distance. Like he expected, you flew up to reach for it but he bent his arm and kept it behind his back.

“Uh… I really think you should give it back…” Hagakure interjected.

“Yeah, you’re being a bully!” Uraraka frowned.

He watched you with a careful eye as you set back down on your feet. Instead of fighting back like he expected though, he uncomfortably watched your eyes get glassy, your fists clutching tightly on your sides as the tears threatened to fall.

“Shit, wait,” he panicked and crouched down next to you. “I’ll get you a new toy, alright? You don’t need this shitty one.”

That didn’t satisfy you, freeing the tears down your chubby cheeks. Your lips wobbled and it seemed you were trying to hold in any sounds. Bakugou freaked out, not liking the idea of being the one to make you cry.

“Alright, alright, here,” he thrusted the doll towards you, but you didn’t grab it. You just stared at it and kept crying silently, making him even more devastated. “What?! What is it?!”

“I want Hawks,” you finally cried quietly. Since you’d been here you’d barely talked at all, only pointing if you wanted something or grabbing somebody’s hand to get their attention. Your voice was sweeter than candy, but it broke his heart seeing you cry over another man’s absence.

“Oh dear,” Yaoyorozu hurried over, wrapping her arms around you and immediately creating another Hawks doll, this one much larger, to try and please you. “It’s okay, [y/n]. You’ll see Hawks very soon.”

The other girls came over as well, trying to take your mind off the number two but you pushed away all their attempts and new bribes. With your wings spreading up, you darted to the bathroom, slamming the door shut after you.

All the girls, and Kirishima and a few others who had stopped by to visit, were glaring at him menacingly.

“Seriously?” Mina hissed and placed her hands on her hips. “You wouldn't let her play with a little toy because your stupid big ego couldn’t handle it?”

“I didn’t think she’d fucking cry over it,” he grumbled, stuffing his hands into his pockets and stomping his feet.

“Bakugou…” Kirishima let out an exasperated noise. Times like these, he wasn’t sure what to do with his best friend.

“You need to apologize,” Uraraka’s disapproving frown was annoying, but correct. “She won’t want to come out and play if she thinks it might happen again.”

“Alright, alright,” he says through clenched teeth. He doesn’t want to, but he knows it’s the right thing to do. They all stare at him critically as he makes his way to the bathrooms on the first floor, as if he would’ve tried to get out of the chore. They’re both unisex single unit bathrooms, not used often unless guests were over as most of the students preferred to use their own personal bathrooms connected to their dorms.

He sighs, knocking loudly on the door of the one you’d disappeared in.

As expected, you don’t respond so he calls your name and knocks again.

“Is the door locked?” Hagakure asks.

He tries the handle, and to his surprise, it opens right away. He peeks right in, hesitating as he doesn’t want to catch you in case you’re on the toilet, but his eyes don’t find you at all.

Bakugou pushes the door wider, walking in and sees that the restroom is completely empty, the window towards the top has been pulled open. It’s small but at your size and wings, you shouldn’t have any issue flying up to it and shimmying out.

Oh fuck.

He grinds his teeth and turns back to look at everybody who is either confused or shocked.

“She’s not there, is she?” Mina sighs, pinching her nose.

“No.” He answers as he walks straight to the exit. “You extras stay here in case she comes back. I’m going to look for her.”

“Should we tell Aizawa…?” Yaoyorozu asks, unsure of the situation.

“No, don’t tell him yet.”

“We’ll help look for her, too!” Uraraka says with determination. “We’ll find her.”

“Yaomomo, you stay here!” Mina’s dashing right after Bakugou. “The rest of us will split up outside and look for her. If anybody has any updates, message the group chat!”

They collectively agree, making sure they have their phones on them and get ready to head out.

“Wait, here!” Yaoyorozu produces more copies of the Hawks dolls, passing them around to each of them. “Just in case you need to get her to cooperate a little.”

Bakugou glares at the doll but snatches it out of her hand anyways. He shoves his feet into his shoes and slams the doors open, running straight out and around the building to where the window of the bathroom was located.

It was already dark now.

The fact that you were scared to sleep alone, allowed him to believe that you may possibly be scared of the dark - which means you shouldn’t have gone too far. Away from the dorm meant less light, unless you’d gone to the main path and headed towards the other buildings.

He walks a straight line from the bathroom window, calling your name and having to use the flashlight on his phone to see clearly. He can hear the others calling for you in different directions, until he’s walked far enough that he really starts to worry.

Shouldn’t they have found you by now?

You were so small, you shouldn’t have gone this far, unless something had scared you and caused you to run deeper in.

He keeps calling your name, ears peeled for any type of response to your hiding place, but all he can pick up are the natural sounds of the forest. His hands are starting to sweat more, especially once he realizes 20 minutes have already passed. He shouldn’t have needed to walk this far out… and judging by the silence on his phone, none of the others have come across you either.

Yuuei’s campus is huge, and if you’d gone in this direction, you would’ve eventually hit the fence that surrounded its perimeter. He’s hoping that you’d be smart to stick to the main road, possibly hitting the other dorms or buildings. Those paths have enough light and somebody is bound to find you eventually, but then he looks down at the Hawks doll that he’s been gripping onto this whole time.

Realization creeps in at your last words. You’d wanted Hawks.

You probably went to search for Hawks.

He looks up at the night sky, shrouded by the tops of the trees, before blasting himself straight up into the air to get an aerial view of the forest.

Nothing in front, but when he scans the general area, he sees some movement to the left, in the tops of the trees. They’re rustling and in a way that doesn’t look like it’s just from the wind.

Bakugou blasts himself over, stopping several meters onto the ground so he doesn’t scare you. He’s running, and this time, he keeps his eyes upwards towards the tree branches.

He calls your name and he’s thankful for how good his hearing is, because he actually runs past you before he hears the sniffles. Rounding back, he yells your name once more and finally gets a soft chirp from you. The noise leads him to a tree, but you aren’t sitting there like he’d expected. He has to flash his light, tension finally leaving his shoulders as he realizes your wings are caught, causing you to dangle painfully from your appendages.

You kick your feet and sniffle, looking at him with a tear stained face. One of your shoes had fallen off your feet, scattered at the ground not too far.

“It’s okay,” he easily climbs up the tree, crouching on a sturdy branch and digs his fingers into the leaves. “I got you, don’t worry.”

He tries his best to untangle your feathers from the branches and pokey spurs. He murmurs a few consolations, but eventually manages to free you. When you’re out, you’re too exhausted from the fight and he’s pulling you into his lap as he settles more comfortably in the tree. You’re crying quietly, hands rubbing at your eyes; Bakugou rests a hand on your head while he uses the other to text the group saying he’s found you.

Numerous questions and worries are sent back, but he assures them that you’re fine and he’ll be bringing you back soon after you’ve calmed down.

“You’re okay,” he says quietly. “Let’s get down, alright?”

Your hands grip tightly on his shirt but he’s able to hop down just fine while holding you with one arm. You’re ridiculously light at this size, even with your wings. On his feet, he tries to set you down but it seems like you’re either too tired or upset, because you don’t want to stand up.

He holds you up under your armpits, settling you into his lap as he sits down and leans back against the tree. Still crying, he finally resorts to pulling that stupid Hawks doll from his back pocket and showing it off to you, even moving it as though it were dancing.

You blink at it for a second before your hands slowly reach for it; your eyes are looking at his face, blacks dilated and covering your irises. The bird-like feature is a little creepy out here in the dark forest.

“Just take it, kid,” he grumbles and shoves it into your tiny body. “Not gonna yell at you or anything.”

You hug it tightly against you, rubbing your cheek against it.

“You were lookin’ for him, huh?” His hand comes up, combing through your hair. There’s no answer from you but the way your eyes dart away, he knows it’s the truth. “Look, we’ll bring you to that giant chicken soon, alright? Just try and stay inside for now. It’s not safe for you out here by yourself.”

You make a clicking noise, but he’s not sure if you’re agreeing or complaining. He’d think it’s a bad sign but then you’re leaning against his chest, holding the precious doll that he’d previously tried to rip away from you. He’s not sure if it’s because he’s saved you or if you’re just sleepy, but he tries to take advantage of the small gesture of trust.

“I’m sorry, okay?” He rolls his eyes but keeps patting your head. “I shouldn’t have taken your toy away from you. Just got a bit jealous.”

That makes you look up at him, eyes inquisitive and round like an owl.

“You don’t remember anything, so I don’t blame you, but it’s me you should be hanging around all over, not that stupid bird brain.”

You frown, not approving of his words, or maybe just not believing him. So he pulls out his phone and opens his pictures, pulling a few of the two of you together.

“We’re da- I mean, we’re close, alright? Look,” he swipes through several pictures. Selfies of the two of you, including the pictures taken at the reversal dance. “See? That’s you and me.”

Your mouth partially opens, and you crowd in closer to his phone. Maybe you’re more surprised at the way you look since it’s an older version of you, but at least he’s got his point across. “We’re really close, and we play together a lot. I got mad cause you wanted Hawks instead of me, but I shouldn’t have taken it out on you. I’m sorry, alright?”

It takes a moment, and you stare down at the doll and back up at him, almost contemplating like he was making you choose right here and now. Eventually you nod though, choosing for both as you hug the doll close and lean back against him. Bakugou sighs and accepts this as a win; he wraps his arms around you and rests his chin on top of your head.

“You’ll be okay.”
