Chapter Text
Steve's heart pounded with a mix of excitement and nerves as he stepped into Hawkins Hospital. He greeted a couple of familiar faces, people he had gotten to know during his visits to Max and his boyfriend. He was fortunate enough to secure a placement there. Jules had decided to stay at Muncie Hospital, while Nickie had made a last-minute decision to join Hawkins as well.
Steve had asked Huffman to intervene with the coordinator of the Hawkins Hospital alliance, and after some compromises and a bit of groveling, Huffman agreed to let Nickie fulfill her clinic hours there too.
However, their schedules were dependent on the head nurse they were assigned to assist and follow. They were only sharing a 6-hour shift. Nickie had the first shift on Monday and assured Steve that Lorna was the best. He had met her briefly, but she seemed like a fair woman.
He climbed a couple of stairs, searching for the locker room where he could change. Nickie had mentioned that she shared a small space with some nurses to put on her scrubs and store personal items. However, as the only male nurse in the hospital, Steve was told he would share the locker room with the technicians.
In his college classes, there were usually five or six male students, but it seemed he was the first male nurse in the hospital. Nickie had discovered the same on Monday when she started. Now he would experience what Vickie felt in her chemical engineering class, where she was the only girl.
Steve searched for the room, and when he finally found it, an antiseptic scent filled the air—a smell he oddly enjoyed, heightening his senses and amplifying his nervous anticipation. He scanned the room, looking for his assigned locker among the row of compartments belonging to other staff members.
He began searching until he found his designated locker. His hands trembled slightly as he swung open the door, revealing the neatly arranged space awaiting his belongings. Following Nickie's recommendation, he took off his sweater and remained in a long-sleeve white shirt, as the AC in certain areas was known to be strong. He removed his vans and pants and then sat down to take off his gray socks. He replaced them with a fresh pair of white socks.
Next, he reached for the neatly folded scrub top and pants, their blue fabric ready to be worn. He slipped into the scrub top and pulled on the matching pants, adjusting the drawstring.
Staring at his reflection in the locker's mirrored door, he noticed the nervousness in his own eyes, but he reminded himself of Prescott's words.
I t's terrifying because it's new, Steve, but think of this as another step towards a fulfilling life.
With a deep breath, he arranged his belongings inside the locker and retrieved the padlock he had chosen for it.
He closed the locker door, smiling at the date he had selected for the padlock key.
Glancing at his watch, he realized he was still early. He felt a sense of relief in that. Double-checking that he had his credentials, he examined his appearance one more time when he heard voices entering the locker room.
Three other guys were joking and teasing about the last football match.
"You didn't trust my buddy. I knew Dickerson would kick those cowlover asses," said the tallest and oldest. From where Steve stood, he noticed the man had dark blonde eyes, and his smile formed slight wrinkles at the corners.
"Whatever you said, Mick," replied the second guy. Steve noted that the blonde one was Mick. "Hope you said the same when they have their turn with the Chicago Bears," added the shorter one. Despite his height, he had a muscular build, buzzed hair, and a tan complexion. His tone was playful.
"I'm with Mick on this. Between Dickerson, Pat, and Brooks, we're set for the season," chimed in another guy. He appeared to be the youngest among them, though a few strands of gray could be seen in his light brown hair. He leaned against a locker with his arms crossed.
As Steve took a misstep and accidentally hit a slightly open locker door, the three men turned to look at him. Mick, the blonde one, stared and smirked.
"Oh, we have a player for another team here," joked Mick, giving Steve a once-over.
Steve furrowed his brow, not understanding the joke, but he took a step closer to the trio. "Steve Harrington," he introduced himself, extending his hand to Mick.
Mick's eyes widened. "No shit, you're Frank's kid, aren't you?" he asked. Steve clenched his jaw and nodded curtly. "Huh, I thought Harrington would be working shoulder to shoulder with his son... figures," Mick said, turning his head to retrieve his watch from the locker.
Steve frowned, extending his hand to the brown-haired guy. "Dale Morton," he introduced himself. Steve nodded in acknowledgment. "The idiot that you just spoke of is Mick Davies, and here is Wally," Dale said, nudging the shorter one.
Wally, the buzzed-cut man, playfully nudged Dale back. "Ignore him. Walter Cooper," he introduced himself. "You're the other nurse, I assume?" he asked Steve.
"Uh, student nurse, just my third semester," explained Steve.
"What college do you attend?" inquired Walter with curiosity.
"Oh, West Fork," replied Steve.
"Oh, my little sister went there," commented Dale.
Steve nodded. "Yeah, I commute there, and when I found out I needed to do clinical hours, I spoke with my college coordinator, and here I am," he shared.
"Well, if you're anything like Frank, and it seems you look like him, you would be stealing all the nurses' looks," Mick started, and Steve frowned. He wasn't used to being compared to his father, and he didn't appreciate it. "...surely, you're used to all the attention being the only guy in a sea of those pretty girls," Mick joked, causing Dale to snort.
"I just hope to learn something from the pretty girls," Steve said, emphasizing the words. "Just to clarify, I'm nothing like my father. Nice to meet you, but I think I'm running late..." He heard some whispers behind him and decided to look only for the nurse in charge. He took the stairs and went directly to Lorna, a woman he assumed was the head nurse. She was joking with a man in a gown, and dark black hair peeked out from under her cap. She was of average height, but her presence demanded attention.
She noticed Steve and smiled, turning to the man in the gown. "Well, Mr. Cornell, it was a good chat, but I need to mold minds, and you need to take a nap. It was a long walk, okay? Don't give my girls a hard time," she said, motioning for one of the nurses to accompany the man to a room. "Steve, I like people who are on time. Points for you," she complimented.
"Hello, Mrs. Lorna," greeted Steve.
"What did I tell you, boy? I can be teaching you now... but hell, in less than a year, we will be colleagues, so Lorna," she said.
Steve smiled. "Sorry, Lorna," he said and rolled his shoulders. "So what's on the agenda for today?"
"Well, unlike your friend Nickie, it seems that you already know your way around here, don't you?" she said. Steve frowned, and she smiled. "I'm the head nurse here, Steve, and even if you don't see me, I'm seeing you. I noticed you going back and forth when your friends were admitted here, especially the last one," she pointed out.
"Oh," he realized what she was referring to. What more could he do than force a smile? It's not like he could deny that he didn't leave the hospital until he was sure his boyfriend was alright, and that was only because Will had insisted. "Yeah, I know my way around here," he said instead.
"Good, good... So, as you already know, I'm the head nurse here. You're going to follow me and observe my tasks today. However, your coordinator faxed me a list of things that you need to do during your hours, and in those cases, if I'm unable to do it, you'll be shadowing another nurse around here," she explained.
"I understand, and I'm ready to learn whatever you can teach me," he stated.
"Good. Today, it's going to be easy. You'll be following me and just watching how things are done around here, okay?" He nodded. "Then, I'm sure you've had some practice before, but an important thing that every nurse needs to know is how to monitor vitals, such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and everything else," she said.
"Yeah, we've had some theory and practice in the lab about that," he said.
"Today, you'll see me handle a couple of patients, and then you'll do it yourself. Afterward, you'll document those in the patient clinic history, alright?" she said. "Any questions?" she asked.
"No, ma'am," he replied.
"Well, we need to fix that. So think about one. You can observe and do, but you also have to ask questions to understand things. No question is foolish; foolish are the ones that don't ask," she said.
He grinned. "I'll bore you to death with my questions," he threatened.
"Let's start then, and boy, you can try, but I've been doing this for 30 years. Keep that in mind. So this," she took a chart from the counter, "is your best friend. Anything that happens with the patient, medication, vitals, any changes, goes here... This helps track their progress, got it?" She continued explaining the basics of nurse documentation to Steve, and he found himself nodding along, his nerves slowly slipping away.
Will smiled along with his friends as he absently munched on his fries, his mind occupied with the missing person at their table. Jane was explaining to them how she had been shut down during an argument with Josh, recalling her three-minute speech in social studies as practice for the upcoming UN model.
"And he was speechless, and the room fell silent..." she said proudly.
"It was so cool, I was there... and I swear the professor was trying not to laugh, I swear... Josh was so confident in his answer, and then Jane started contradicting him, and he had the audacity to try and speak over her... and then she finished with the best closing statement... Can you please repeat it?" begged Becca.
Jane shook her head, embarrassed. "Come on, we weren't there, we need a demonstration..." Dustin urged, and everyone nodded in agreement.
She stood up, put on a blank face, and looked at Becca. "And Josh, next time check your references..." she said, and Becca high-fived her.
"She didn't laugh, but I did," snorted Becca. "He was envious because Jane was elected to be the representative of the USA. He said and cited that our country is not stupid enough to send a woman to speak for us... ugh, I hate him," she said.
"He's in the chemistry club too, and God, I want to throw him out the window. Is he always like that?" complained Dustin, sympathizing with Becca's sentiment.
"He's an idiot wherever he goes. I want to kick him off the team because he missed two practices. He can't focus on one activity... he's just collecting them to make his boring essay stand out," said Matt, rolling his eyes.
"Please don't talk about it..." said Mike, frowning.
"Hey, what happened? You were the most excited about that…" commented Becca.
Jane pressed her lips together. "His dad found out that Mike wants to major in Literature," said Jane.
"And he didn't like that?" asked Matt.
"Didn't like it? He spent an hour ranting about me wanting to smoke weed, throw flowers, and starve myself," replied Mike.
"When Ted Wheeler opens his mouth, it's always something useful, huh?" pointed out Dustin.
"I know, and I usually don't care about what he says, but..." Mike paused, frowning again. "My mom agreed with him. She told me to go for accounting and then have a minor in communication. I thought she would support me... but no," he said.
"But you're smart, you can get a scholarship," said Becca.
Jane shook her head. "It's not about that. He just wanted to feel supported..." she said.
"Exactly! Look at Jane, she doesn't know what she wants to study yet, and Hopper said she could always take a year off," he motioned to his girlfriend and then to Will. "Or Will Joyce, and Hopper are excited to have an artist in the family. It's so hard to expect, to want the same..." he said.
Will snapped out of his daydream when he heard his name mentioned. "What did I miss?" asked Lucas, sitting down and taking a bite of an apple.
"Ted being Ted," replied Will, and Lucas rolled his eyes.
"Not surprising," he murmured, stealing some chips from Dustin's plate.
"Where were you?" asked the curly-haired boy.
"Oh, the coach wanted to inform us about the playoffs and remind us that scouts will be coming to more of our games... so no pressure at all," he huffed.
"I hear you. I'm pushing myself to break my records, but man, it's hard," said Matt. "And damn, do I need that scholarship. I don't want my dad to worry about it."
"I hear you too. I'll be training to stay in shape, just in case they come to one of our practices," replied Lucas.
They fell into silence until Will broke it. "Aren't we going to talk about the elephant in the room?" he asked, gesturing toward the obvious vacant seat next to his sister.
"I'm sure she's fine," said Mike, though he didn't sound convinced.
"I don't know, man. I mean, you obviously know Max better than Becca and me, but I don't know what I would do if something like that happened to me," stated the blonde.
"If it were me, I'd be mad... but my mom also told me not to worry, that there's no way a judge would grant custody to someone who abandoned her daughter while she was in a coma," said Becca.
"Well, yes, but it's not just that. And I hope your mom is right... but what about the stress that her mom is putting her through? Max was fine, she was healthy and doing well... and then her mom had to come back and ruin everything," said Will.
"You're telling me. Max is different, and she's putting up a front like it doesn't affect her, but it does. It's like going back to... you know," he said.
"Billy," said Will, and everyone nodded.
"But she's still Max, MadMax. She's someone who can go through this and come out stronger," stated Dustin, and silence fell once again. "Hey! Do you guys want to come to my house? I bought the new Metroid game if you want to try it?" Dustin asked, trying to lighten the mood.
"I'm down for it!" said Matt, bumping fists with Dustin.
"Sorry, I have practice," apologized Lucas.
"Sure, anything to not be at my house. I'll drop by after I leave Jane at Max's," said Mike.
"Oh, can I come with you guys? My mom probably wouldn't take me to Max's. Brianna has a fever," said Becca to Mike.
"Sure, no problem," nodded Mike, and everyone looked at Will.
"Sorry, I have a weekly appointment with the doctor, and I need to go home and change," he said apologetically.
"I thought your appointment was on Monday," frowned Mike.
"And why do you need to change for a doctor's appointment?" asked Lucas.
But Dustin and Matt exchanged mischievous looks, and Jane laughed as Will cleared his throat. "Oh, our dear Will isn't changing to see the doctor, are you, Will?"
Will blushed. "You're absolutely right, Matthew. Our dear Will is going to see a certain nurse at Hawkins Hospital," Dustin teased.
"Oh, shut up!" replied Will, though he couldn't hide his smirk.
"What am I missing?" asked Lucas.
"It's Steve's first day of practice at the hospital, and Will convinced Mom to switch his appointment today so he could have a chance to see Steve in his scrubs," explained Jane.
"I didn't say that," Will defended himself, but everyone looked at him skeptically. "I didn't!" he insisted.
"Oh, I heard you speaking with Nickie... you can't whisper in the hallway without it echoing," Jane whispered the last part.
"Hahaha, very funny... Well, yeah, I admit I want to see him in action. Besides, my appointment is the worst, so I deserve to see my boyfriend," Will admitted softly.
"Oh! Nurse Steve, I'm feeling a little bit hot!" Dustin exclaimed dramatically, pressing his hand to his forehead.
"Oh, tell me Mr. Byers..." Matt played along, pretending to be Steve. "What can I do for you?" he asked, furrowing his brow.
"Take off your shirt," Mike whispered in, laughing.
"Oh, great idea," Dustin winked at the raven-haired boy and continued his playful act.
"Oh! You think if I take off my shirt, it's going to help you?" asked Matt, trying to keep a serious face.
"Oh, no. I think it would make me even hotter," Dustin replied, and the whole table erupted in laughter, drawing the attention of others nearby.
"First of all, we don't sound like that, and secondly, we're not like that either," Will clarified.
Mike turned to look at him. "Oh, really? Shit, that day in his kitchen, I thought you both were gonna do it right there…" he shuddered.
"His kitchen, what about the car and his room! I had to wash my eyes after going in there to tell him that dinner was ready the other day," Jane added.
"Fine, fine, we just get caught on sometimes... But can you blame me?" Will asked.
"Nope," Becca replied without hesitation.
"Rebecca!" Matt exclaimed in shock.
She laughed. "You're thinking the same thing, admit it," she said, and the blonde rolled his eyes.
The bell rang. "Shit! I need to go, Lexington said I can't be late again," Matt exclaimed, and he quickly left.
Mike cleared his throat. "Did he remember that Lexington didn't come today, right?" Everyone laughed. "Aren't you going to tell him?" the raven-haired boy asked Becca.
"He would have realized eventually," she said, waving her hand dismissively. "Dustin, come on, we have English class together," Becca said, turning to Dustin. She then turned to Jane and Mike. "I'll wait by your car." They nodded, and Becca left, dragging Henderson along with her.
"So, see you later... If you see Max, tell her I'll come after practice, okay?" Lucas said to Jane.
"We will," Jane replied as the boy nodded and left.
Will turned to his sister, a mischievous look on his face. He tickled her, making her laugh.
"Stop it!" she said between laughs. Mike stood behind them, carrying Jane's books. "It's true, and it's not a secret..."
"She's right... Like, dude, try to keep your pants on…" Mike chimed in.
Will turned to him, unimpressed. "Huh! I think I might take advantage of my appointment today and check my ears with the ENT because I'm almost certain I heard someone who sounded like my best friend in my sister's room after curfew..." Jane and Mike blushed. "But hey, I'm so in love that I probably heard wrong..." he then went to his classroom with a smirk on his face.
It was past four o'clock when Steve reached the last patient he had to check. Lorna was called into a brief conversation with a doctor to review some test results, and she had given him approval to start without her. She had been impressed with his quick learning since the third patient, but he still felt like there were many things he didn't know.
Steve took a deep breath and knocked on the door. They were in a hospital, but privacy was important to him, at least for his patients.
The woman inside was young, maybe in her early thirties, and heavily pregnant. He smiled at her and also noticed the man beside her, a deputy. He had seen him a couple of times but couldn't recall his name.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Warner," Steve said nervously. "My name is Steve. I'm a nursing student, and with your permission, I'll be checking your vitals."
The woman smiled and nodded. "Call me Jill, and this dingus here is my husband, Justin," she said, motioning to the deputy. Steve couldn't help but snort.
He blushed. "Sorry, it's just that my best friend calls me 'dingus,'" he clarified.
"Well, he's my best friend too," joked Jill, holding her husband's hand, the man raising his eyebrows at Steve.
"Nope," Steve joked, shaking his head, and then focused on reading the chart, looking for any anomalies or information he needed to know. "We're just friends, in love, but with other people... So, Mrs. Warner—sorry, Jill—your chart indicates that you came today because you're having contractions?" Steve asked, reaching for the blood pressure cuff and positioning it around the patient's arm.
"Yeah, but the baby isn't due yet. It's supposed to be in one month from now," she said.
"And she was complaining about cramps and pain in her belly, you know, in the front…. And it hurts when she's sitting," Justin added.
"It didn't hurt that much," brushed off Jill. "I think it's probably Braxton Hicks. My sister told me about it. It's just that this is my first baby… after," she cleared her throat, "we've already experienced a loss, so we don't want to take any risks," the woman explained.
Steve nodded. "I understand. Please extend your arm and take a deep breath." Jill nodded, and the cuff started to tighten around her arm. He carefully listened, focusing on the patient's vital signs. Finally, he released the pressure on the cuff and checked the gauge.
"129 over 85," Steve whispered, relief washing over him as he recorded the readings. "Slightly high, but nothing to be overly worried about." Jill nodded, and Justin let out a breath.
Next, they moved on to checking the patient's heart rate. Steve placed his fingers on the patient's wrist, feeling the steady rhythm beneath his touch. He counted the beats, his focus unwavering.
"Eighty-four beats per minute," Steve said. "Within the normal range... For now, everything looks alright, but I want to wait for Lorna, so..." he started.
"Lorna is here, and Nurse Harrington is right. There's nothing to worry about. It's common in the last trimester. It probably happens when you stay in the same position for too long or if you carry heavy weight," Jill explained.
"Oh, the box with your baby's stuff," gasped Jill.
"That's it," smiled Lorna. "My suggestion is to let the handsome man you have there do the hard work from now on. And if you feel the contractions increasing, then it's time to have this baby girl... What are we naming her?" Lorna asked.
"Oh, Margaret... Peggy for short," said Justin.
"It's a beautiful name," said Steve, smiling.
"Yeah, and she's the first girl on my family's side. You bet this one is going to steal hearts," said Justin.
"That's great. She's lucky to have you as parents, from what I can see," Steve remarked.
Jill shook her head. "We're the lucky ones," she said.
"I hope she gets her looks," Justin added.
"He says that to everyone," replied Jill. "Oh, she's kicking," Jill exclaimed, excited. Steve beamed at her.
"Do you want to feel it?" she asked.
"No, I mean..." Steve started, looking at Justin.
"Man, don't look at me, is her body. But if you haven't felt a baby kick, it's a religious experience," Justin said.
"For you, to me it's like a ball bouncing inside... Oh, c'mon! She's doing it again," Jill said. Steve hurriedly placed his hand on Jill's belly and felt the sensation of something pressing against his hand and stopping.
"It's awesome, wow... Thank you for that," Steve said, taking a step back and smiling widely.
"Don't worry, in a few years, you'll probably be in Justin's seat," Jill said.
Steve's smile dropped for a second, and he nodded. "Lorna, what about her discharge?" Steve asked, passing the chart to the nurse.
Lorna frowned but took the chart. She gave the final instructions to the couple, who nodded in relief. Lorna motioned for Steve to follow her. "What happened back there?"
"Nothing... Just, aren't you the nurse in charge? Shouldn't you be the one giving them instructions about the discharge?" he asked. The black-haired woman looked at him incredulously but didn't press the matter. She checked her watch and then looked at Steve. "Finish the 204 chart, and then you can go. Nice job. I'll see you on Friday," she said and left.
Steve let out a deep breath that he didn't realize he was holding. He pushed aside what had happened in the room and focused on the task at hand. He went to the nurse's counter and began filling out the medical history, which turned out to be easier than he had thought.
"Steve... Hey," Lori greeted him.
Steve raised his head. "Sorry, I was just focused on this," he smiled and put his signature on the chart, placing it where Lorna had indicated.
"It's okay. It's overwhelming. It's your first day. I remember mine, and you're doing pretty well," she said.
"Thanks," he said and then frowned. "Are you supposed to be on this floor?" he asked.
She rolled her eyes. "No, but yes... Huffman is on a long vacation, and his replacement brought in his own nurse, so I'm down here for at least three weeks," she smiled.
"Cool, another friendly face," he grinned.
She nodded. "I was actually expecting to see you on Monday, but only your friend was..." she started, hesitating.
"Do you need me for something?" he asked.
"I just wanted to clarify everything and make sure everything is alright between us. I didn't know that you have a..." she said.
"A partner," he pointed out, motioning to the place they were standing.
"Yes, a partner... And I invited you to get a coffee," she said.
He grinned. "Like I told you, it's fine... You said yourself, you didn't know. And it's okay, we're good, really," he said.
"Thanks," she smiled. "I just felt like an idiot inviting you where you were, you know, visiting him, and you were...." she said.
"Charmed, again... But I'm taken," he smiled. He looked at her watch and then grinned at Lori. "Actually, since I'm already done, if I'm lucky, I still can spend some time with him before dinner..." he said, and Lori smirked.
"Oh, I think he already took care of it," she said. Steve frowned, and Lori motioned behind him. There, in all his glory, was Will walking and looking for someone. And then he found Steve.
Will walked towards him, wearing a soft yellow sweatshirt, a black jacket - Steve had taken the task of finding a replacement for the one that he had gifted and that had been ripped in the accident. The jacket hugged his frame nicely, paired with jeans and his always dirty Vans. With a mischievous smile and tousled hair, he exuded a natural sexiness that was impossible for Steve to ignore.
"Hey, Nurse Harrington," smirked Will. He then looked at Lori. "Hi Lori," he greeted.
The girls smiled at him and moved a little to give them privacy. "What are you doing here?" asked Steve, his voice hoarse.
"Just my weekly appointment... You know, for the..." he motioned to his head.
"Everything is good? Something different, any..." Steve started to ask.
"Everything is fine, I swear..."
"Wait a minute, you had this appointment on Monday," said Steve.
Will flushed. "Well, yeah, but my favorite nurse wasn't working on Monday, and it didn't seem as fascinating to come if he wasn't..." said Will.
"Well, it's nice to be seen that way... Wait for me, I'll change, and we can go," said Steve. Will nodded.
Steve started to walk and encountered two guys. He noticed his boyfriend getting tense, so he said something to them and went on his way. Will approached Lori, who was looking at some files on her table. "Uh, Lori, can I ask you something?" he asked.
"Sure, what's up?" she asked, looking at him expectantly.
"Those guys behind me, is it just me, or do they look like they're up to no good?" asked Will.
She took a brief look and groaned. "Uh, those... They're Mick and Dale. They're like the most disgusting guys around here. Like... " she motioned for Will to come closer, and he did. "One time, when a new female doctor joined, they tried to look under her skirt," she shared.
Will looked at her with disgust. "And they're still working here?" he asked. If someone did something like that to her sister, he would want to kill them.
Lori shrugged. "She was new, and if you look around, there aren't many female doctors here. She was trying to, you know, save her job," she said. "We nurses try to stay out of their reach, I guess. But they're always making jokes and things... You get used to it," she said.
"Doesn't feel right... just that…" he motioned, he smiled at her. "How was his first day?" prompted Will.
Lori raised her eyes at Will and smiled, "Fine, Lorna... complimented him a few times... he will do okay, don't worry," she said, scribbling down some things.
Will huffed. "Oh, I'm not worried, he is the one who was nervous..." he replied.
"Well, tell him that he did great, nothing to worry..." she commented.
"Will do," the boy answered, and Lori looked around to see if someone was paying particular attention to them.
"Will, uh, Steve mentioned what happened... I mean that I asked him out," she said.
Will sighed. "Yes, he mentioned something," he commented. It wasn't just a mention; it was a ten-minute speech where Steve explained that Lori had asked him to grab coffee, and he turned her down. He swore to me that nothing happened or would happen.
"Good, good... I just wanted to apologize. I mean, I didn't know," she said.
Will smiled at her. "It's okay, you couldn't have known. It's not like we can announce it. It also surprised me that he told you. Only our family and close friends know," he said.
"Oh... well, I just wanted to clear the air. I really think he's a great guy, but I'm not the kind of woman who goes after guys who are taken. I just wanted to make sure you knew that," said Lori.
"I told you, it's okay. Believe me, you're not the first one who asked out Steve. It has happened a couple of times when I went out, so I got used to it," said Will.
"Used to what?" asked Steve from behind him.
"Girls going after you…"he paused"You know? like the one at that burger place," said Will, and Steve huffed.
"Oh, I see… he just failed to mention that all the girls in his year think he's cute," mocked Steve.
"Oh, shut up," teased Will, and the nurse laughed.
"It's true, every time I go to your match, I only see these silly girls talking about you," said Steve.
Lori sighed. "Okay, this is really entertaining, but I still have half of the shift. Glad to see you, Will. Steve, see you on Friday..." and the blonde went off.
Steve drove them both to Will's home. It was Wednesday, and he was supposed to come over for dinner that day anyway.
Steve took off his jacket and left it on the hanger. "I can't believe you actually hung out with that girl. I don't even remember her name," said the older one, following Will to his room.
"You're one to talk. Mike told me that you glared at a girl during my last game just because she was cheering for me…" pointed out Will.
"She was doing more than cheering, and I'll strangle Mike, I swear," promised Steve, sitting on Will's bed and reclining against the headboard.
"It's okay, I don't mind you being jealous. I get jealous sometimes too, but I guess it comes with the territory. You can't have a handsome boyfriend without girls falling at his feet," said Will, taking off his sweater and remaining in a white shirt and jeans.
"Right back at you," replied Steve, smirking. "Anyway my eyes are always on you, no one else."
Will started to move and crawled on top of Steve, positioning himself above him with one leg on either side. "Then why are we just talking when you can have more than just your eyes on me?" he said, planting a kiss on Steve's neck. Steve swallowed hard, feeling the intensity of the moment.
"How much time do we have?" Steve asked.
"Enough, enough…" replied Will before claiming his boyfriend's mouth. Steve immediately gripped Will's head and back, their bodies heating up with each passing second. Steve nibble and bit on the available skin on Will's neck, careful not to leave any visible marks. Will grabbed Steve's face, deepening the kiss. Their mouths moved together, their saliva mixing, and the room filled with their passionate groans, drowning out any other thoughts. But amidst the passion, Will needed to convey something.
"Keep going…I have it covered," he said, his words slightly breathless.
Steve looked at Will with surprise. "Really?" he asked, his eyes widening. Will crawled over to him, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. He rummaged in his drawer and pulled out a small container of cream. "It's my color and everything. Nickie gave it to me," he said, holding it up for Steve to see.
"I love that girl," Steve chuckled, appreciating Nickie's thoughtfulness.
"Me too," Will agreed, biting his lip with anticipation. "So don't hold back. I want it... the marks, I want them.." he said, his voice filled with desire. Steve's heart skipped a beat as he looked at Will. "C'mon, hot stuff," Will called out, laying his head on the pillow, his body invitingly positioned. Steve couldn't resist the temptation any longer. He leaned in, his gaze fixed on Will, and let his primal instincts take over.
"You are going to be my death," said Steve, going for the tasks, and biting and marking his boyfriend as they let their desires run free in their bodies. Will briefly touched his boyfriend's groin, eliciting a groan from Steve. "Fuck! baby... but this is a good way to go," said Steve, and Will repeated the action.
They continued exchanging passionate kisses, and a couple of hours later, if only Jane noticed the faint marks on her brother's skin when his shirt lifted slightly.
Well one secret from others, she thought.
