Work Text:
“this is the fifth time this week,” seo changbin scolds, his voice harsh as he grabs and twists bang chan’s non-bleeding arm, ignoring the winces and whimpers that come from him when he drags him back into his section of the infirmary that’s hidden away by a divider placed awkwardly off to the side of the hospital bed. “the fifth time this week that i’ve had to bandage you up and it’s wednesday! i’m not using any ambrosia for you, because you know better–”
chan, though a little taller and probably still stronger than him even with the injury, allows himself to be pulled along, his face contorted into pain as he shouts, “fine, okay, that’s fair – just let go of my arm, fuck, why are you holding it like that?”
changbin lets him relax his arm, but he still has a tight hold on his wrist. “because you’re an idiot – you need to learn that sometimes pushing yourself and aggravating half of the ares cabin in an arena isn’t a fucking good idea. jeongin could’ve told you that. now shut up and let me do this.”
“i’m still new at this,” chan counteracts, a little harshly and his voice is strained. changbin rolls his eyes at the mere thought of it, since he isn’t a bad fighter – he’s perfectly fine with long range weapons, which is still an acceptable form of fighting in quests and battles against monsters.
(unfortunately, he probably isn’t going to stop with trying until he’s mastered everything, apparently attempting to live up to the zeus name with unrealistic circumstances placed onto him for being a part of the big three, something that isn’t a good thing.)
“irrelevant. i’ve seen you with a bow and arrow. you just fucking suck at swinging a sword, and you should own up to it.”
he guides him toward the bed and chan pauses, weighing changbin’s words before looking off to the side and mumbling, “i didn’t know getting healed would also entail getting scolded,” before climbing up onto the padding, sheepishly sitting there with a slight grimace on his face.
“that’s my specialty, and you wanted my help, so shut your mouth,” changbin hisses, rolling up the sleeve on his long sleeved shirt so he could see chan’s whole arm, being gentle with that despite everything he’s done so far. and for a good reason too, because just seeing his bloodied arm, mixed together with bruising showing up under the surface gets him to let out a sigh, his voice now quiet as he says, “hyung...” he’s seen this type of injury on chan before, the bruising being the result of the broken blood vessels that shoot down his arm like lightning. the cuts on his arm only distract from this, and chan knows he’s realized it already.
“so i might’ve also tried using the whole… summoning lightning thing, i just wanted to see if i could do it and it didn’t really work…” he says, looking away from changbin as he continues to inspect his injuries.
“i said no ambrosia. why did you try this without practice again? I distinctly remember sungjin-nim saying not to do it without him.”
“practice makes perfect…” chan pouts and changbin immediately ignores the look, since he knows he looks like a wounded puppy, and instead starts to clean up and sterilize the wounds. chan flinches, bites down on the inside of his cheeks from the sting before continuing his reasons for attempting the whole thing. not that he wants to hear it, but whatever. “and it’s because i’m the kid of zeus and all i can fight with is a bow and arrow – that’s apparently not a good enough fighting method when everyone – especially monsters - knows that zeus is my dad.”
changbin rolls his eyes. “couldn’t you have asked him for help? or, you know, one of the other zeus kids? i’m sure they would’ve helped you instead of you doing this all by yourself when you know you’re not good at it.”
“they were all busy,” chan mumbles.
changbin scowls, even if there’s an unsettling feeling that settles deep in his chest after calling him out. “i’m also busy, but that never stops you from seeing me.”
“because you’re my changbinnie,” he finds it in himself to grin at him, and his eyes sparkle once he realizes changbin’s face went red.
changbin ducks his head and focuses on chan’s arm, making sure the deep cuts from the lightning were cleaned up before he can do anything to it. (and yes, he’ll give chan ambrosia, even though he said he wouldn’t – just in case there isn’t anything internally wrong that he can’t see since he had attempted using lightning.) “idiot,” he mutters, continuing to work. zeus kids are brash and irrational, absolutely reckless, changbin thinks to himself, but when chan looks back up at him and gives him another goofy smile, dimples and all, he finds himself absolutely melting.
fuck.
“changbin,” chan says, and changbin looks up at him as he’s finishing up wrapping the bandage. he’s a lot closer to him now, and changbin’s breath hitches as he realizes he could just kiss chan right now. (he’s not sure when that thought entered his mind, but he’s not… opposed to it.)
“what?”
“thank you,” he says quietly, and changbin momentarily forgets what exactly he’s thanking him for. it finally connects in his head that he means fixing up his arm, but changbin leans in and presses a soft, short kiss to chan’s lips.
“you’re welcome,” changbin says quietly and pulls away, focusing on something else to try and calm his burning face.
he knows chan is beaming, smiling widely and beginning to laugh and coo at how changbin is trying to hide from him, but it only amplifies when he realizes that he’s getting the exact reaction he’s looking for. “do you always kiss your patients, or is it just me?” he teases after a moment, gently cupping his cheeks and tilting his head up to look at him.
“shut up,” changbin says, but it comes out as more of a choked whine than anything else. chan leans forward again and he allows himself to be kissed once again, reveling in the feeling – because it is pretty nice getting kissed like this. “now stop trying to get yourself killed.”
“and hardly see you anymore? i’m not so sure about that–“ chan’s stupid teasing is cut off with a sharp whine when changbin punches his uninjured arm, and he pouts as he mutters, “i was kidding.”
“i don’t care. stop doing stupid shit.”
chan grins at him. “anything for you.”
