Chapter Text
As a kid, I was told that I was special and to never tell a soul about my powers. But here I am, telling the Reader everything. Hello, I’m Sakura Tsukiko and I have psychic super powers. Honestly, the powers aren’t all that cool. I have teleportation, telekinesis, telepathy, and much more. I have a choker I always wear that keeps my powers at a respectable level, I don’t really wanna kill anyone. I’m originally from Okinawa but we’re moving to a place called Hidari Wakibara because of my dad’s job, useless as it is.
“All right everyone! Welcome to the mainland! We should be getting off shortly.” I honestly hate riding on planes. I offered to teleport everyone to the new house but my parents said my little sister deserved to experience the feeling of flying on a plane. Isn’t having a super-powerful older sister enough?
“Sakura! Let’s go! Let’s go! I wanna go see the new house!” The shouting of Akari Tsukiko, my annoying younger sister, was drowned out by the chatter on the plane. I tried my best to listen to her voice but ended up taking off my earring to hear her better.
You may be wondering what my earring has to do with hearing her better, but it’s just another part of my stupid powers. My earring has a Morganite gemstone on it. Somehow, it slightly nullifies my telepathy. Not completely, of course, life would be too easy if it would.
I listened in on my sister’s thoughts and all there was, was the chanting of the new house. Good grief could a girl get a break? Akari grabbed my hand after we grabbed our carry-ons and dragged us to the exit of the plane.
Saiki POV
I could feel it, a slight shift in the air. It’s not noticeable to regular humans, but you all know me already. I walked downstairs to see my mom making lunch, though I already knew this.
“Oh! Hey Kuu! Are you excited for school tomorrow?” Kurumi shifted around the kitchen, elegantly making whatever food it was, Saiki could care less. “Oh, not at all. School is my worst nightmare.” “Don’t say that sweetie! You have those interesting friends of yours! And I heard there was a new student coming! She’s from Okinawa, oh how I wish we could have a vacation there…”
Saiki sighed, watching his mother daydream about a place he could easily take them to. He was getting bored so he decided to get up and go to the convenience store for some coffee jelly. As he was putting his shoes on, he heard a new voice enter his telepathy range, three new voices precisely. Saiki decided to listen in on the older male’s voice, he seemed to be the more interesting one.
“I really hope the kids like the new house, after all, it’s only a fifteen-minute walk for Sakura and her new school.” Oh, so it’s the new kid. Jeez, and she lived so close, they would probably have to walk to and from school together. He then decided to listen in on the younger girl's thoughts, expecting it to be this Sakura girl, but instead, he was attacked by the fast and loud thoughts of a five-year-old. “Man! I can’t wait to play with Sakura on the trampoline in the big backyard! I wonder if she’ll let me help her decorate her room! No… she would never let me help her. Maybe she could help m-” Saiki cut the girl’s thoughts off before he could get a headache from her loud inner speech.
He quickly sped through the older women’s thoughts, nothing sparked an interest in him. All three of the voices thought of Sakura, so where was she? Maybe she wasn’t in his telepathy range? After all their house barely pushed the border, maybe she was slacking behind? His curiosity got the better of him and he used clairvoyance. There were four people, a family of redheads and pinkettes. Why couldn’t he pick up Sakura?
Who exactly was this girl?
Tsukiko POV
The uniforms at PK Academy aren’t that… fashionable. They could use a few touch-ups and accessories. Since we just moved into a new house, none of my things are ready for use. And especially since I’m the only psychic in my family, I’m stuck moving furniture anyway. Luckily I could Just teleport between the two houses and bring the furniture back, but damn did I wish I didn’t get tired from using my teleportation so much.
“Sakura dear, can you please bring everything from the kitchen first? I want to be able to cook our dinner as a family in the brand-new house!” My mom was a beacon of light in my life, and that isn’t exaggerating. She always makes sure I’m not overusing my powers for them. I wish my dad and sister realized that.
As I teleported between houses, the new, fairly large kitchen started to fill up. As expected, my mom made me take a break halfway through to eat and take a drink. She somehow always had my favorite dessert ready, fresh from the store, green tea ice cream. In general, I love green tea but when it’s in ice cream form, it is amazing. It’s perfect for getting energy back up after using my powers too much.
“Ok, Mom! I think I’m ready to continue.” “Are you sure Sakura? I don’t want you overworking yourself.” Without answering, I continued bringing pots, pans, and knives back to the new house and in only twenty-five minutes the whole kitchen and dining area were there. “Oh, Sakura… what would we do without you?” My mom hugged me tightly and quickly let go, knowing I’m not the one for hugs, or touching in general.
“Sakuraaa!!!!!” I groaned at Akari and quickly teleported into her empty room. “Oh, there you are. Can you start bringing my things in now?” She tapped her foot on the wood and glared at me. “Akari, you should know this by now. Mom and Dad’s things first.” “Wahhhh!!! But you already did the kitchennnnn!” “Fine. I’ll bring your bed but that’s it!” I teleported back to the old house and brought Akari’s baby blue bed back. When I got back she was sitting on the floor playing with her pink pigtails.
“Thank you, Sakura!” She hugged me tightly and even after I pushed on her head to let me go, she wouldn’t move. I ended up teleporting out of her grasp and met up with my dad in his office. “Ah! Sakura, there you are! I was just planning out where my desk and bookshelves would go. Just teleport the two bookshelves for now though… I still need to plan on where my desk is going.” “Good grief, how do you talk so much?” “Oh, sorry honey, just do what you need to do.” I heard my dad chuckle and curse himself before I teleported and grabbed the bookshelves.
I came back and put the shelves in the correct corners before disappearing into the kitchen. “There you are!” My mom walked up to me and handed me another bowl of green tea ice cream and sat me on one of the dining chairs. “Now finish this bowl before doing the living room. When you get the TV here, ask Haruki to set it up.” I don’t think Dad is smart enough to put the cords in the right spots. Oh well, if that’s what mom wants then that’s what she’ll get.
Saiki POV
“Hey, mom? Is it possible for other strong psychics, like me, to exist?” Saiki has been watching the family and they’re used to Sakura’s power, meaning she’s had it since birth, just like him. “I don’t quite know sweetie! You were just a gift for us I guess, but I suppose others can be born with powers.” Kurumi was setting the table now, placing plates and cups around for the family to use. “The new kid and her family live just down the block and she is setting off some huge red flags. I might confront her, but then it will expose me and I don’t quite want that yet.” “Oh, my God! Kuu! You have to tell me these things! I could’ve had a welcome basket ready for them by now!” Kurumi ran into the pantry and grabbed out a basket and some things a new family would need.
“I’m home!” Kusuo’s dad’s voice rang throughout the house. Kurumi ran up to him and quickly kissed him on the cheek before running off again. “What’s up with her?” Kuniharu directed the question to Saiki. “I told her the new family lives only a block away and she went berserk. Lunch is on the table if you’re hungry.” “Sweet! Food!” Kuniharu walked into the kitchen and started eating. “She doesn't even care about the new kid! What if Sakura is a threat?” Saiki thought to himself and sat at his designated spot at the table.
“Kusuo! Can you help me find what house they live in?” Kurumi was holding a basket and had her shoes on. “No, you can find it yourself. I’m not the one who wants to give them a gift” A second later he felt goosebumps form on his arms and he turned to look at his mom. She had a face that freaked him the hell out, he complied after she started yelling and cursing at him.
—------
“Thank you for helping me Kusuo! I’m glad we can give them this welcoming gift.” They walked down the sidewalk, the sun just barely starting to reach its peak. “Yeah, you know you kinda forced me to come along right?” “Please, I know you wanted to meet the new girl anyway, she might be like you!” “Sure”
They made it to the Tsukiko’s house and knocked on the door. His telepathy told him there were only three people in there, his instincts knew better. And the soft footsteps he heard coming toward the door only confirmed that Sakura was special. The door opened to reveal a roughly 5’8 girl, her blood-red hair was in space buns and she had multiple piercings on her ears. But just as quickly as the door opened, it slammed shut. The Saiki’s were left to stare at the closed door.
Tsukiko POV
Ok, what the fuck was that. I knew someone was coming, not two people. “ Mom! Can you answer the door? I’m busy right now!” Sakura quickly ran to her bedroom and looked out the window to stare at the two people gawking at the door. The thought that someone was like her made her pulse race. Sakura watched as her mom answered the door and talked to the people, she read her mom's mind as she noted that the boy talked without moving his mouth as she often did when her voice was too tired, she watched as her mom grabbed a basket and wished them goodbye.
That’s when she saw it. The weird clips in his hair, the cheap glasses. It related to her powers, the clips kept him from using too much force, the glasses, to stop the petrification. Sakura started laughing, she felt sick, she knew the boy would go to the same school as her, and she knew she would have to confront him. She ran downstairs and gathered her mom and dad.
—-----
“Ok, listen, that Saiki kid with the weird glasses, is like me. He has powers!” Sakura told her parents how she can’t read his mind and how her petrification didn’t work on him. (Don’t ask why she tested that, she was panicking and they were leaving.) “Honey, you took your contacts out? You should know how risky that is, even if you know they won’t work.” Her dad scolded her and Sakura knew she was going to get an earful for even using her powers on others. “Well, Sweetie, I see this as a good chance at making a new friend. You two already have something in common and you’ll have to talk to him anyway because of school.” Her mom was looking on the bright side of things and her parents started talking it over.
She got tired of their bickering and went upstairs to her still-empty room. She sighed and sat on the floor, putting her hands on her head and massaging her temples. She managed to keep her stupid powers a secret for sixteen years but the same day she moves, someone already knows. Sakura heard her sister’s mind grow worried and listened as she walked closer to Sakura’s room. “Sissy…? Are you ok?” Akari walked closer and sat next to her big sister.
“Yeah… I’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry about me.” “Sakura, you used your magic to talk. Do you want to help me finish my room to get your mind off the stupid thing that’s bothering you?” “Sure. Sure, I’ll like that.”
Saiki POV
“Do you think the poor girl realized you were psychic?” They were walking home now, after the surprising encounter with Sakura. “Obviously. She’s panicking right now, I can tell because her younger sister is talking to her right now” “Aww, how sweet. Maybe you should go comfort her?” “I would more than likely freak both of the sisters out if I teleported in front of them” “You’re right, forget I said that.”
As the mother and son duo walked into their house and put their shoes away, Kuniharu was fidgeting with a figure. “My two favorite people are back! How was it guys?” “Well, Kusuo was right about the girl having powers! Looks like a new friend added to the list!” Kurumi sat next to her husband and kissed his cheek. “None of them are my friends and that girl is probably going to ignore me at school.” “Don’t say that son! I’m sure she’ll warm up to you over time!” His dad set the figure on the table and stood up, walking to the shelf full of other figures, and picked a new one up.
“Easy for you to say.” Saiki crossed his arms and glared at his dad. “Did Kusuo just compliment me?!” Kuniharu looked at his wife for confirmation, she nodded her head and he jumped for joy. “My son just complimented me!” He only stopped jumping when a fork whizzed past his head and embedded itself in the wall behind him.
Tsukiko POV
By the time the two girls were done decorating both their bedrooms, Sakura had completely forgotten about Kusuo Saiki and the problems she was going to face the next morning.
