Summary
History books don't really relate the birth of marks. One can find within their pages legends that would explain their appearance, but no scientific fact can give them a meaning. The only accuracy we can be sure of is that marks determine the identity of soulmates, people who complement each other perfectly and who can unfold their true potential once together.
Shikamaru Nara was one of the few chosen and, since they appeared, the marks printed on his wrists left him perplexed. He didn't come from a prestigious clan like the Senju or the Uchiha, he didn't have extraordinary power like Gaara or Naruto, and he was certainly not the type of man who needed an other half — lazy and cunning as he was, a complementary person would drive him crazy.
However, fate had decided to give him not one, but two soulmates. Obviously, such a case had never been reported anywhere, thus making Shikamaru and his soulmates anomalies.
Honestly, all the Konoha chūnin could do was hope he never met his third parties or, if he did, that they were at least decent people."Can someone explain to me why my soulmates had to be bloodthirsty psychopaths, 'cause I definitely can't understand the logic... [...] What a drag..."
