Work Text:
Gareth sat at the alter of the church as he mumbled the final words of the prayer. It had become a habit after Jane said something.
What had she said?
He brushed the thought off as he opened his eyes and looked at the glass murals. The murals of the Garden of Eden, of the Tower of Babylon, of The Flood and Creation. Everything in which God had a part of, the god he questioned.
Was he even in the right? Was he right to question this when in the end he lovrd another man who was betrothed to another?
He sighed as he heard the texts come through, maybe it was Jane demanding he buy more wine? Or it could just her being mad at him...maybe she should've bashed his head in when she had the chance. He took a step up and went to one of the seats in the church, the phone light coming to life.
'HEY SHORTIE, MAKE SURE TO COME TO MOVIE NIGHT!' Ah, it was Rowan. His cheeks went a soft crimson as a smile etched it's way onto his face. He put the phone away and stared at the ceiling, the cars and people chattering slowly fading as they all went home. Rowan Artifex. A name of his
best friend
coworker, married to Okami Artist, another coworker.
He shouldn't have these feelings, they're wrong and immoral.
He looked off to the side as the sun faded to the moon.
He found it lovable almost, it was so similar it how he was. The moon could only shine with the suns light, without it the moon was just another astral body...Ah right, he was still a teacher. He shouldn't be wondering on these things, not when he had a job before it. Bowing his hear, he started to mumble out another prayer, one he hoped would reach the god he needed.
"Our Father, who art in heaven. Please hear my prayer, help me keep my focus on track and not ponder about Your magnificent creations...amen." It was pathetic and he knew it, he should know what to say. Looking up, he felt the bandages around his wrists and arms shift a bit. He should change them before Rowan and Okami asked. The next few moments blurred, he was walking and then he was inside the bathroom cleaning his wounds as the old bandages were discarded.
The remaining red of his blood washed down the drain as he stared dully at it. The wine Jane consumed was the blood of Christ, it was cleansing her of her sins. He could never stay mad at her, God said love your neighbor as yourself. So he tried, but he couldn't love himself. Gently rewrapping the wounds, he could hear her grab another bottle. Stopping her was pointless, besides. God would forgive her, he always did. His shoes tapped against the wood floor, then the wood of his patio, then the cement roads as he walker. Jane's yells got muffled out as he waked farther and farther...
The city lights flickered as he wakes through the streets, Sam and Taurtis running past him as they yelled something he didn't quite catch. He faltered a bit as something hit his head and landed behind him. Turning around, he saw Sam grabbing Taurtis' wrost and running while the other stuck his tongue out at him. "These kids..." murmured under his breathe, he picked the item up. It was a bag of Toritos with a note saying 'Your wife is hot :p - Taurtis'. Of course, perhaps some more classwork would shut him up. Putting it in his bag, he slightly glared at where he had last seen the duo before resuming his walk.
Stepping onto the stairs of the Artifex Artisr Residence, he didn't even need to knock before Rowan opened the door with a grin on his face. "GARETH! YOU'RE HERE!" The Gym Teacher smiled as he opened his arms for a hug from him. Chuckling, he returned the hug he was offering with one arm. "PLEASE, COME INSIDE. WE'RE WATCHING THE TERMINATOR TONIGHT!" Nodding, he removed his shoes and put them on the shoe rack as Silly, the couples youngest waved before running up to her room. Okami on the other hand was in the kitchen making pop corn for the three to eat while they watched.
As he looked around, his thoughts ran back around. Maybe he wasn't in the wrong and needed forgiving. Maybe he was already at home.
