Work Text:

“White Winter Hymnal”

It was a cold, winter morning. With the temperatures being so low, it made people want to stay inside. However, unlike this couple, they wanted to be out in the snow and admire how beautiful it was with the way it was like a thick blanket to the grass.

This romantic couple, however, decided to enjoy the snow, knowing it may not come again for a while.

Who was this couple?

Lynda Weathers and Strip Weathers.

Lynda knew that her husband was very much a child at heart, seeing the snow’s first flakes, growing excited.

“Lynda, Lynda Lynda!” He called, his eyes warm and bright with excitement.

“Yes, honey? What’s wrong?” She questioned, stirring as it was an ungodly hour in the morning that her husband decided to wake here up at. Of course, she couldn’t stay mad at him. With the way his eyes were such a warm caramel color, she saw how excited he was and she giggled.

“It’s snowing!”

Strip had such a warm look in his eyes, giggling and smiling so bright, she couldn’t turn away from how happy he looked.

“It is?”

“It is!’

To her surprise, it very much was snowing like Strip had been saying. If she had to guess how much snow there had been in the grass, she’d have to assume a good four to five inches, enough to play in and run around in. She loved how excited her husband had gotten just at the fact that he had saw snow.

“Okay, honey, go ahead and get ready, get dressed to go play in the snow. I know you absolutely enjoy the snow, my love, I know you adore how peaceful it is and I’m glad you find so much comfort in it.”

With that, he was off, wearing comfortable but proper attire to go out. So when he had gotten done, she smiled as she watched him roam and play in the snow, finding so much amusement and joy by being in the snow. Occasionally, he would take a break and lie down in the snow, his warm eyes conflicting with the elegant white snowflakes falling.

As he played and played, she watched the sun begin to rise, she watched him admire the sunrise. Of course, Lynda figured he would be wanting something warm in his stomach after he played in the snow for so long. So, she had made some hot tea for him.

She found it weird because she never knew he was a tea person but, she proceeded to make his favorite which was chamomile the way he usually made it.

As she prepared his favorite tea, she had decided to open the window so she can watch her husband play in the snow, as if she was watching everything he had been carrying on his shoulders,= melt away. Lynda smiled warmly as she started to play “Love Story” and happily sang along with the song. As she was deep in song, Strip had been by the window, his cheeks rosy with warm eyes.

“He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said “marry me Juliet you’ll never have to be alone”..” She sang, not aware of her husband standing by the window adoringly.

As Lynda continued, he smiled sweetly and slipped inside after shedding everything he needed to shed as he walked inside. Lynda didn’t notice that Strip had came inside, only feeling how his hands were warmly wrapped around her waist.

“You truly are amazing, my dear..” He cooed warmly, smiling sweetly as he gently swayed with Lynda in his arms. Lynda found comfort and she giggled.

“I didn’t know you were inside my love, how long have you been there?”

“Oh maybe a few seconds? The voice of an angel brought me inside, please do sing more often, I find it amazing to hear you.”

“Okay, okay, love.”

Strip had noticed the tea was done that his wife made for him and took a careful sip inside, humming in delight, melting against the counter as his back was resting against it.

“How is it?’

“It’s perfect, my love. I appreciate it, darling. Thank you.”

“It isn’t any issue, my darling.”

Strip smiled sweetly as he then kissed her cheek occasionally as he finished the tea, cleaning the cup it was in with delicate hands, humming lovingly. While he was doing that, Lynda smiled adoringly, deciding to play one of Strip’s favorite songs as he was cleaning the glass mug with careful hands.

Why did she start playing one of his favorites? Because since she had been able to beckon him inside, she loved the way her husband sounded. She adored how sweet and smooth his voice was. The best thing she could compare it to was honey and whiskey put together. She had decided on playing “Meet Me In The Woods” which was one of his favorites.

“Is this what I think?”

“Absolutely, my love!”

Strip giggled and he smiled sweetly. “Is someone trying to get me to sing, hm?” He teased lightly.

Lynda giggled and shook her head. “I wouldn’t do that.”

Strip chuckled and decided to take her hand and lovingly dance with her.

“I have seen what the darkness does, say goodbye to who I was, I ain't never been away so long..” He sang happily, his eyes locked on Lynda’s beautiful blue eyes with his own hazel eyes.

“Follow me into the endless night, I can bring your fears to life, show me yours and I’ll show you mine, meet me in the woods tonight.” He went on, his eyes warm and excited.

This was quite a different thing to wake up to.

Cal, their nephew, stumbled into the kitchen early that morning, hearing music playing quietly along with his aunt and uncle’s voices. He had no idea what to expect but, he loved the domesticity of the moment. It was like the winter weather had changed his uncle for the better, seeing how he was much more calmer, how he was more relaxed.

He didn’t want to interrupt this moment, smiling warmly, snapped out of his gaze when Strip spoke to him.

“Good morning, Cal, did we wake you?”

“OH! Nono, sorry, I just woke up and wondered what was happening in the kitchen, so I came to investigate and found you two being madly in love with each other, as usual.” He giggled.

Strip chuckled warmly, nodding.

“Yeah, that is true. It did snow outside. I didn’t know if you noticed but it snowed sometime last night,”

Cal giggled happily and looked outside.

“I did not notice but thank you for telling me, I’m probably going to go back to bed and get some sleep again. I figured I’d let you both know I am indeed still alive.”

“Alright, sleep well, Cal!” His aunt called after him.

As the couple watched Cal walk back into his bedroom, Strip smiled and let out a quiet yawn. “He’s got a good idea, would you like to go back to bed with me?”

“Absolutely, my love.”

Strip nodded as he gently held Lynda’s hand and took her lovingly to bed, Lynda following in pursuit with quiet steps.

As the two got in bed, Strip was coiled into a ball as he rested, feeling Lynda wrap her arms around his waist, as they usually slept, this being enough to cause Strip to nod off to sleep for some time. But, before they both fell asleep, Lynda got closer to him.

“I love you, Strip.”

“I love you too, Lynda.”
