But when his eyes flutter back open, they’re already locked on the quivering mouth in the mirror. There is no indecision in the flushed cheeks bookmarking the splash of purple. The chest heaving beneath the reflection’s open jacket with anticipation is confident in what Paulie’s next action will be, the pitched tent at the front of denim pants mirrored back at him eager.
Don’t, Paulie wants to demand of himself. But instead his brain stumbles and compromises, don’t let anyone hear.
