"And you better shut your mouth right now or I'll have to decommission it this instant!" There was the detective again, confronting in a not very subtle way those who were badmouthing Edgeworth.
Rumors were common in this field, apparently. Edgeworth never let them get to him, unlike many other novices.
In the building it was common for new people to throw away their careers for giving those damn rumors too much importance. If you were to make it past that point, everyone was your enemy or a potential step to the top… using people was stupid. It's all on you; the instant you feel the need to use others it means that you weren't capable of achieving something on your own. A sign of weakness. Disgusting.
What Edgeworth couldn't understand was: why is the police force involved in rumors concerning the prosecutor office? It was simply ridiculous. As the face of law, they shouldn't be allowed to act on those petty ways. What a waste of time!
There were also the occasional fights among the police officers. Those who called Detective Gumshoe a mere footman. The implications were obvious and his heart rhythm would become erratic just thinking of this nonsensical relation. He didn't need that enthusiastic lapdog on his case.
Still, lousy cops like those would only get in the way of those officers who were doing their job right. As much as it pained to admit, Gumshoe made up with enthusiasm for his lack of braincells. No one would miss those incompetents. A word of Edgeworth would benefit everyone, not only that oaf. Right?
Maybe the reason those rumors never got to him was because of that stupid detective. Maybe he wasn't that bad to keep around.
