   Summary

   Holmes' receives word of his father's death, and asks Watson to accompany him. Watson knows very little of Holmes' childhood - only that he purposefully does not mention it. Beyond that, he can only surmise. Somewhat uncomfortable in the Holmeses' personal matters, he explores the Holmes estate... and finds a long-dead corpse, rotting away in the servants' quarters.

   Against Mycroft's wishes, Holmes and Watson embark on a murder investigation in Holmes' childhood village of Adderbury. Holmes' facade is indomitable... to all, perhaps, but his closest friend. As the dark nature of the Holmes patriarch's last years grow apparent, Watson grows ever more concerned that Holmes will simply shatter.
