The giant dog charged us, foam dripping from its mouth, teeth bared. Basukabuiru Yugoh screamed in terror at the sight of his family's legendary monster brought to horrid life. My own heart pounded in my chest from fear. But Sherlock did not even blink in surprise as she pulled out her Taser and fearlessly aimed it at the
"Wato-san…"
That wavering cry could only mean one thing.
Wato Tachibana pressed her lips together to hide her smile; she closed her laptop and rose from her chair, careful not to disturb her notes from the last case. She took up a drinking-glass and a piece of cardboard before heading to the bedroom.
Sherlock stood well away from the half-folded futon, her eyes fixed in terror on a dark speck on the ceiling. Wato carefully stood upon the futon cushions, balancing, and reached up to imprison the intruder with the glass.
The creature wiggled a leg, and a tiny cry came from Sherlock.
"I won't hurt you," Wato crooned to the tiny spider as she carefully slid the cardboard between the ceiling and the glass, coaxing the arachnid into climbing into the temporary cage before descending with the imprisoned creature. "I'll take this to the window; it can eat flies for us."
The fearless Sherlock smiled at her lover. "My hero."
Wato beamed.
