Work Text:
You always believed that you and Jamil were close. However, things drastically changed after his Overblot. You thought you knew him, but now you know that that was nothing but a mask. It was as if a ravine had opened between the two of you, and while you reached out, he turned away.
You could only steal glances during the classes you shared. He was quick to leave and disappear in the sea of students. Lunch was so awkward that you felt like you had to move tables. You felt bad, but you felt even worse when you overheard Kalim ask Jamil about you.
"Hey, Jamil, do you know why Hulw hasn't sat with us in a while?"
Jamil hesitated, his nose twitched. A tale-tell sign that he was caught off guard.
He shrugged, "I don't know." He sounded nonchalant, but even you could see his shoulders hunching.
Kalim must have noticed something was off as well because he didn't press him any further.
The ravine remained for two agonizing months. You had to watch him from afar, getting further and further away from you. Until he was truly out of your grasp and the uncertainty flooded you into the depths of despair.
But just as quickly as he was gone, he was back. Standing in front of your door.
He called your name.
"I'm sorry."
Then the cold dread bloomed into a familiar warmth,
and you smiled.
"Are you done shutting me out?"
He swallowed. His eyes flashing through a multitude of emotions.
Fear, hope, hesitation.
"Yes...I want you to be a part of my future." He paused, reaching a hand out shyly. "If you'll have me, that is."
You grabbed his hand, pulling him in close.
"You've always had me, Habibi"
