Chapter Text

The moment he wakes up from unconsciousness, Dr. Don't is first met with a huge migrane while eyes are met with a metallic celing. His back starts to feel a little uncomfortable in the position he was in, thats when he notices that he was lying on a pretty comfortable couch. His eyes scan the area he was in. Looked like a base, pretty similar to the Yolk, where he and the rest of the Chaos Council were living in. Wait, the Council.. Where were they at?

The last thing he remembered, is that they were trying to prevent Sonic from getting the last shard. They failed and Nine managed to put it back in place, he was pretty close in proximity. Then there was this huge bast and he must've passed out. He couldn't remember what happened after that though... Where did the Chaos Council go? Were they maybe kidnapped or taken hostage? If so where would they even be? Or was he the one kidnapped while unconscious? It's not like he would even be able to get out by himself, he doesn't see any sign of at least a singular Eggforcer, he can't find his controller either.

He gets up and decides it would be best to look around. As he sits up theres this stinging feeling in his right arm, that's when he noticed the bandage on his arm. And that he was in his white T-shirt that he usually wears under his red hoodie.

His hoodie and jacket were folded neatly and stacked atop of each other next to him, with his console and headphones on top.

He probably fell on the floor and hurt his arm when he passed out. Well if it's bandaged, then that must mean he was maybe rescued and not kidnapped. All of the sudden, he heard the sound of a mechanical door sliding open. As Don't turns to the doorway, his eyes lay upon someone who looked similar to that Titan Mr. Dr. Eggman made. Except he's not a Titan.

"Ah, I see you're finally awake."

He was holding a bowl in his hand, smells like soup. His stomach churns. Great, now I'm hungry. Don't starts looking around nervously.

"Well, my name's Ivo Robotnik, but others just refer to me as Dr. Eggman."

He looks at Don't with expectation. The teenager was so surprised over the fact that others call him Dr. Eggman, almost like the Mr. Dr. Eggman he knew except with out the "Mr." in his name and the fact that he wasn't an oversized Titan, that he forgot to respond.

"And you are?"

Oh, right. He's supposed to reply.

"Don't.." He mumbled out, barley in ear shot.

"Hm?"

"You can just call me Dr. Don't." The teen says a bit louder, so the older man could hear him.

He scootes away a bit when Eggman sat next to him on the couch, putting the bowl of soup down on the coffee table in the process. They sit in awkward silence for a moment.

"What happened?" He motions to his bandaged arm.

"You sprained it pretty badly. It should heal in a few weeks though. I found you passed out nearby my base, while i was planning on how i was going to get rid of that annoying blue Hedgehog."

"Blue Hedgehog? Sonic!?" Don't blurts out.

"You know Sonic?" Dr. Eggman asks, intrigued.

"Well, yeah? Kinda?"

"Then let's hope you're not aquaintances."

Don't tsked. "Why would I even be friends with him?."

"So.. I'm guessing were both on the same page then?"

"You could say that again."

"You should eat before it gets cold." Eggman points at the bowl of soup.

Time passes and Dr. Don't has already explained (as best as he can) everything that he can remember. From the Chaos Council, to the Shatterverse up until everything that has illegedly led up to this point. The bowl of soup was empty. He must've been really hungry.

"I'm not sure where they could be now.." (he's talking about the chaos council)

To Eggman, it sounded like the teenager was geniunely sad about not knowing the whereabouts of his family comrades.

"You probably got separated from them in the blast. So they could still be in that other world. But they could also be... um.. I'm afraid to say this, but they could also be dead... or.. wiped from existence.." He was nervous about letting those last few words slip out of his lips. He didn't want to upset the kid.

A sniff could be heard. Then sobbing. Eggman looks to Don't to see the kid in tears.

As a dad to 1 AI kid and 3 robotic kids, the only thing he could think of is embrace the poor teen that almost looks like a younger version of him as an act of comfort. Don't let's tears fall as he leans in to the hug.

About 20 or so minutes pass as Don't finally calms down a bit.

"It's getting late, I have an extra bedroom you can sleep in."

Don't sorrowly gets up while the older man picks up his belongings and he lets Eggman lead him to the room he was going to spend the night in.

Once they got to the bedroom, Dr. Eggman places his belongings down as Dr. Don't sits on the bed, kicking off his shoes.

"Well.. Good night then. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Night."

Eggman leaves the room and Don't is now alone with his thoughts. How the hell did this happen? He just wants to go home. He starts getting homesick as he thinks for a moment before deciding that he should just go to bed.

He lays down, puts his glasses aside, covers himself with the blanket and tries his best to get some shut-eye until finally goes to sleep.

Chapter Text

Dr. Don't opens his eyes, only to be met with darkness.

He wonders, 'What time is it?'

He goes to grab his console to check the time.

4:16 am

So he definitely wasn't dreaming. And his arm still hurts like hell. He lays back down and thinks for a moment before starting to feel a little homesick.

'Shit, what if Ivo makes me leave later? Then what?' Think Don't, think..'

Wait. Why does he even call himself Don't? He has an actual name and that's Nik. He'll just have to tell him later then. He thinks about it before dozing off.

It's about 4-5 hours later and Nik is by now making his way to where he thinks is the kitchen.

And he apparently found his way when he sees Ivo and.. 4 others? Having breakfast.

A girl.

A robot who almost looks an awful lot like Chaos Sonic.

And two other robots who are shaped like- well- shapes.

Ivo then turns around and greets him.

"Oh, Don't. Good morning."

"Mornin'."

"Right, I haven't introduced you to them yet. But I've already explained to them the current situation."

He gestures over to them.

"Don't, this is Sage, Metal Sonic, Orbot and Cubot.."

He sounded pretty tired with the last two.

Nik makes what looks to be a pathetic excuse of a wave.

Ivo speaks up again. "Look, why don't you sit down and eat?"

Nik only nods as he takes a seat.

"...Nik.."

"Hm?"

"My names actually.. Nik."

Ivo nods in acknowledgement

After breakfast and a more proper introduction to Eggman's kids, he actually starts getting along pretty ok with them. 

Sage then pipes up with her millionth question. "Have you ever gone to school?"

"Uh, no.. I was technically homeschooled."

Going to a school in New Yoke wouldn't actually be possible for him, due to size difference. And if he did, he would have to sit in small chairs and probably duck under doorways since it's basically all mobian-sized. (Think boom!eggman as an example)

But as of now, he and Sage are watching cartoons. He's never actually seen a lot of cartoons Mr. Dr. would've always told him that he shouldn't waste his time watching cartoons whenever he caught him.

But time passed and now he's back in bed, glad he didn't have to leave. And blahblahblah they became a family and Dr. Don't's sprained arm healed.
