Chapter Text

Rose had asked all the crystal gems, including Bismuth, to sit in the temple on a couch she had dragged in from the side of the street. 

"I have something very important to tell you all, something I should have told you ages ago." She looked at Pearl, who instantly knew what this was about. "There's no easy way to say this.. I'm Pink Diamond. I started the rebellion after I realized what my colony was doing to the earth. I'm sorry." 

Everyone but Pearl gasped. Bismuth's jaw dropped, and Garnet unfused due to the sheer shock and confusion. Amethyst just looked at the reactions of her fellow crystal gems, wondering what she was supposed to do.

"But.. you shattered her! You can't be a shattered gem!" Bismuth couldn't believe this news.

"I.. I faked my shattering, hoping it would scare my fellow diamonds away from this planet once and for all. It.. didn't work." She looked down, her face full of sadness and regret.

Bismuth, Ruby, and Sapphire felt angry, hurt, and betrayed. Ruby and Sapphire were whispering to each other, seemingly having a small argument. Bismuth just sat in shock. 

"I'm sorry, I had to keep it a secret from you all until Rose was ready.." Pearl said, shame in her voice. 

"You.. you knew? This whole time?" Bismuth said, feeling more betrayed than ever.

Rose and Pearl looked at each other, before Rose spoke up. "I'm so sorry I didn't tell you before.. I thought you'd hate me, that you'd hate yourselves for following me. Please, just know I did this all so gems could have a better life, so earth could exist, so we could exist!"

"I.. I understand. Even if I'm angry at you for not telling us sooner, I understand why you didn't." Ruby and Sapphire said in unison, their argument over. Bismuth nodded, though she couldn't get the words out. 

"I have one more thing I need to tell you. You know about me and Greg.. well, we decided that.." She took a deep breath, glancing at Pearl for support.

"We're having a baby."

Chapter Text

After all that news had settled, and the gems had calmed down, preparations for the baby had begun. Bismuth got right to work building a house, though she felt a bit strange about it. Building another building, especially for a Diamond, felt just like her old job on Homeworld. Garnet and Pearl were comforting Bismuth as well as talking about how else to prepare for the baby, and Rose and Greg were thinking of names for their child.

During the entire pregnancy, Rose had some strange cravings. Even Greg was shocked when his partner started eating dirt, leaves, and even just straight coal and graphite. She tried to explain it to him, but as always he didn't understand gem terms. The other gems were in awe, as they'd never seen how exactly diamonds created gems, aside from maybe Pearl. 

Rose was eating these strange things to build a large amount of carbon in her body. Carbon is the main component for making diamonds, as Rose had found out when humans started making lab grown diamonds. Rose had decided to try something similar, and so she began eating as much of it as possible. All of this was an experiment, of course. She didn't even know if she could create a gem inside her, let alone form a baby as well.

Everything seemed fine, although Rose felt the lingering anger and feelings of betrayal from the other gems. 

And as the days turned into months, and the house was nearing completion, everything was fine. Rose's pregnancy was almost complete, and the gems had seemed to accept that she was Pink Diamond, and that was ok. 

Rose and Greg had decided on Steven or Nora, depending on the baby's gender. Garnet had been told not to spoil the surprise, and so she didn't. Garnet hadn't even looked into the future, as even she enjoyed a harmless surprise every once in a while. 

Rose was growing tired as the house and her pregnancy were almost finished. When it came time to see if all this time, energy, and effort was worth it, she was drained of almost all energy she had. Creating a human baby and a gem at the same time was quite difficult, but Rose had to try.

As the pregnancy was complete, and the gems plus Greg had gathered around Rose, a large bright light formed around Rose's body, and when it faded, she was holding a beautiful baby boy.

"Look at him! He's so perfect!" She squealed. 

And he was, as perfect as could be.
