you're comfy

Summary:

Suguru hates summer and the inevitable heat that comes with it, but Satoru likes cuddling with him. (Suguru does, too.) Compromises are made.

Notes:

This is just a silly little fic based off a fluff starter I saw. It was "you're comfy" and I ran with it :))

Work Text:

Suguru didn’t get what was so great about summer. He didn’t like it much. In fact, he hated it. The days were too long, too hot and humid. All of his favorite places were packed and crowded with sweaty, bustling bodies. It was miserable.

He never did anything very “summer-like.” The days were too hot, so he’d rather go swimming at night; he didn’t like how his clothes stuck to him like a second skin if he stayed outside longer than ten minutes, so he wasn’t outdoors much. He was content with staying in his room all summer, where the AC was on, his fan worked overtime, and his bed sheets were always cool against his skin.

Suguru heard movement outside his window. He looked up from his spot on his bed. Well, he didn’t like summer, but someone else sure did.

He watched as his neighbor and childhood friend let himself in through his window. Satoru slinked in like some lanky cat.  His sunglasses were perched on his head, partially buried in his fluffy hair.

Suguru rolled onto his back and gazed at the ceiling fan. He’d have to clean the dust off of it tomorrow. He watched the blades spin around and around. Satoru kicked his shoes off and left them outside. He made himself comfortable on Suguru’s bed next to him. Maybe he was a cat after all.

Satoru moved and lay like a starfish on top of him. Suguru groaned and pushed his hair off his forehead. “Satoru,” he groaned. When Satoru just hummed lazily Suguru huffed. “It’s too hot for this shit,” he grumbled. Satoru folded his arms and lay his head on top of them. He looked at Suguru with big eyes. He still made no move to get off.

“You should get a better fan,” Satoru said. Suguru rolled his eyes.

“It’s hot, Satoru, and you being on me is not making it any better.”

“You’re comfy,” Satoru argued.

“I’m sure,” Suguru said, trying to stop a laugh from escaping him.

Satoru pouted and rolled off him. He flopped dramatically on the bed, face down and feet dangling off the bed. He sighed deeply, body deflating. Suguru watched as Satoru sulked and pouted. Suguru let out his own sigh at his theatrics.

“We can cuddle,” Suguru said finally. Satoru’s head popped up and if he had a tail, it would surely be wagging. Suguru held up a finger. “If you go out in that godforsaken heat with me to get ice cream. We need something cool.”

Satoru considered him for a moment, then nodded. “Only if we take the bike. I’m not walking out there.” Suguru looked out the window at the sweltering sun. He hated the extreme heat but he’d brave the unforgiving sun for ice cream and a non-pouting Satoru. Though they had a perfectly fine door, Satoru still insisted on climbing in and out through his window.

Suguru followed him out and walked around the house. He slid some old shoes on and swung a leg over his bike. Satoru climbed on behind him and slid his sunglasses back down to cover his eyes.

Suguru peddled out of the driveway and through the patch of grass he parked his bike in. He rode down the street, narrowly avoiding a sprinkler and a chunk of chalk one of the younger kids in the neighborhood left around. Thinking about it, Suguru was almost certain this bike wasn’t meant to carry them both, not anymore at least. His knees were getting too close to the handlebars and Satoru’s long legs bumped against his.

Satoru hummed a random pop song he heard the other day, acting as the bike’s own radio. Suguru decided he liked the tune as they pulled up to the gas station right down the road. Satoru hopped off and continued humming the song, lower now that they were inside.

Suguru took in the cool air inside and fanned himself with his hand. Satoru helped himself to the wrapped popsicles kept in the freezer in the back of the gas station. Suguru grabbed the orange flavored one offered to him—orange had always been his favorite—and grabbed a couple of small ice packs to keep them cooler.

They paid at the counter with the spare money Satoru had stuffed in his pocket. They tore the wrappers off and Suguru hummed at the cold feeling against his tongue. They sat in a shaded spot outside, enjoying their popsicles and the temporary coolness they gave them.

Satoru was sitting next to him, tapping his foot on the cement. His hand found Suguru’s and Suguru didn’t mind now. Satoru's fingers were slightly sticky from the juice dripping from his popsicle and his palm was cool against his.

Suguru finished his last. He laughed when Satoru got a brain freeze and threw their trash away. Satoru was humming a different song when they were back on the bike.

“I need a bigger bike,” Suguru said as he rode back down the street. Satoru was leaning his head back, letting the breeze brush against his heat flushed cheeks. “Yeah,” he agreed.

Satoru reached around and lay his open hand against Suguru’s forehead. His hand was cold and slightly wet from the ice pack he held.

“Feel nice?” he asked.

Suguru nodded. Satoru removed his hand and pulled Suguru’s hair back. Suguru was grateful for the breeze that hit his now exposed skin. Satoru held his hair back until Suguru set his bike back in its designated spot.

They climbed back into Suguru’s room and Satoru was back on top of him. Suguru tugged his heavier shirt off and opted for a thin tank top so he wouldn’t be melting into Satoru as much.

The brutal sun was dimming. Suguru watched as the summer rain clouds rolled in. Satoru was rubbing at his scalp and Suguru leaned into the touch. He probably enjoyed Satoru being this close as much as Satoru himself did. He continued to let Satoru play with his hair and relax on top of him, enjoying the slightly cooler temperature the cloud coverage brought along. He definitely liked it just as much as him, but Satoru didn’t have to know that.
